“Justin,” she said in a hoarse voice, “when I grow up, I’m going to marry you and tell you a different story every night like Scheherazade.” “When you grow up, I’m going to hold you to it,” he promised, patting her head and telling her to get well.
Best selling author Jazzy Allen was only 14 years old the summer she asked Justin Wolfe to marry her. Fast forward twenty years later, she was shocked to learn the man planned to take her up on the offer.
Justin Wolfe returned to Grand Lake to clear his head and relive the fond memories of his childhood. Part of the loving reminiscences of the place revolved around Jazzy Allen, a pain in his ass that he looked forward to seeing each summer listening to the crazy stories the girl made up each day that she tried to make scary. He truly believed fate was giving him a second chance to get it right when he showed up at the lake.
A new chapter begins for them both with the discovery of old letters that hide a family secret. Come over the river and through the woods to grandmother’s house as Jazzy and Justin rediscover the love they shared as children, is far more potent as adults. This time, he would get it right. She wasn’t a little girl anymore.

This is a sweet second chance at love story. When Jazzy was a young girl, she visited her grandmother’s lake house each summer. She would follow the neighbor’s grandson around and tell him stories. Although Jazzy was 4 years younger than Justin, he did not mind her tagging along and actually enjoyed the stories. Years later, Jazzy is a successful author of horror novels. She returns to her grandmother’s cabin to try and get over a bit of writer’s block. Justin has also returned to his grandfather’s lake house. When they see each other, their old feelings for each other are still there. The story is told in dual POV, which I like. I really enjoyed Jazzy’s voice and loved some of her phrases and way of saying things. The story ends with a super sweet HEA. I recommend this is a short, quick read to anyone who likes sweet romance with some hot sexy times mixed in.
Let me start by saying Ms. Gaines is one of my favorite authors and it hurts me to give this book a 2.5 star rating....It was really short and I guess I couldn't get into the main characters as I have with Ms. Gaines other books but she is still one of my go to authors. I hope there is more to come with this story because I would love to know more on Jazz's grandmother and Justin's father and just maybe Jass and Justin will grown on me....
This was a quick easy read. Jazzy is an author who loved Justin the boy next door. Justin went away, marries and divorces. Jazzy never forgot and returns to her grandmother's home to finish her book. Friendship and romance rekindled. A sweet read.
3.75 Stars. (BW/WM). Non-audio Amazon E-book. Chance reunion. Unrequitted love reversed. Light-humor. Jaczlene "Jazzy" Allen grew up spending summers and holidays at her grandmother's lake view cabin on a mountain in Colorado where is meet and played with Justin Wolfe the grandson of a Denver based construction company and owner of a large cabin a short distant up the mountain from her grandmother. Although Justin was four years older than Jazzy, they were constant companions with Jazzy vowing to be his wife and telling him scary stories of alien invasions. When she was 14 and he was 18 and on his way to college, she kissed him and they professed their love for each other; but life, time and circumstance, kept them apart for over 10 years. They reunite, discover that their grandparents were lovers and Jazzy and Justin marry because they love each other and to honor the hidden and forbidden love of their grandparents. Short, sweet, funny and a well written 83 page story.
Justin and Jazzy, what started off as a little girl chasing a boy 4 years older then her. Turns to true love... Jazzy is struggling to find the words to write her next book so she returns to the cabin her grandmother gave her. Justin moved back to his grandfathers cabin to get away from his ex wife. The two of them run into each other and sparks fly... great short read
Justin and Jazzy grew up knowing each other. Justin was 4 years older than Jazzy. Jazzy always knew that Justin was the guy she wanted to marry.
I really enjoyed this book. I am finding that I am enjoying most things that I read by this author. I love her story telling abilities. As a child Jazzy falls in love with her childhood friend and tells he she is going to marry him. Time and life separated them and I enjoyed reading about them reconnecting. It was a very good love story!!
Love this story. Characters are well thought out and developed. Story has just right mix of suspense, romance and intrigue. I had no idea which way Story was going until it was revealed. Story shows love is stronger than racism and time. Could not put book down. I like this author. Highly recommend this book.
Throught the Woods is the first book by Author Olivia Ganies. I loved the loved story of Jazzy and Justin. Jazzy and Justin spent their summer at their grandparents house which happen to be right next to each other. They would spend every day together and Jazzy would always tell Justin these story's she created in her mind. Overtime Justin not only came to love all her story but he became very fond of her so much so that one day she didn't show up and he adventure to her grandmother's house to check on her and.from that day forward he would come over and enjou her company while she was getting better. Jazzy always liked Justin and she was shy about telling him how she felt and how one day she would marry him. Now many years later Jazzy had returned to where is all started for her not just her love for the boy next door but also her love of story telling. Jazzy came to her Grandfather old house that she inherited when her Grandmother passed to hopefully work on her next great book since she was now a well know author. Jazzy didn't expect to find the boy next door actual next door. But on her first night home Justin showed up at the door and let's just say he made a grand entrance which I loved. From the moment Justin saw her threw the glass he just could believe his eyes his Jazzy was back after all these years. Justin didn't waste anytime making his feeling known to her. I just loved how throughout the whole book he was so protective and wanting to take care of her but at the same time she could take care of herself. Throughout the story you find out the the other love story that was hidden throughout there childhood only to be discovered many years after there love story came and I absolutely loved everything about this story and I feel in love with Jazzy and Justin love story.
I always enjoy an Olivia Gaines story. This one is no different, the characters are believable and we'll loved. To read a story and be able to picture yourself personally knowing the characters is a talent that is bestowed upon me every time I read a story by Ms. Gaines. I look forward to continuing the journey. No spoilers this time it's a really loveable read about young love maturing into everlasting love. Highly recommended read.
When you know you know. Jaczlene Allen knew at the age of 14, she wanted Justin Wolfe for her husband. He, on the other hand, was flattered by the young girl, but put her off when he went to college. He enjoyed her company growing up and loved listening to her tales she'd spin for him during the summers they spent at their perspective grand parent's house who only lived a stone's throw away from each other.
Years past and Jazzy took those tales she'd spin for Justin and became a successful author and spent her years hoaning her writing skills but not her personal life. Justin, on the other hand, was divorced from his shrew of a wife, Martena. He married for all the wrong reasons. They both felt the pull of returning to the mountain where they enjoyed their summers as kids. In doing so, they reconnected their friendship and more. They discovered things about her grandmother Annie and his grandfather Robin that shocked them. Now here they were being expected to keep up the functions and love that Annie and Robin loved to do for the town, now that their grandchildren can openly have their HEA. Their only regret, that it took them too long to get there.
Olivia wrote a sweet, easy read story about a second chance love and a heartbreaking love that was not allowed to be free during a particular time in history. Where Annie and Robin could not openly celebrate their love with family, their grandchildren Jaczlene and Justin could.
The book is as quirky as its characters. Lovable from beginning to end. I just wish it had not taken Justin so long to realize the obvious. Dude, it was just a 4 year age difference.
Jazzy grew up going to her grandmother’s cabin in the woods for the summers and occasionally in the winters. She used to follow around Justin from the cabin next door – telling him stories while he was working. She was smitten with Ryan. Years have passed and Jazzy is now a horror writer with writer’s block. She goes up to her grandmother’s cabin to hold up and try to break the block. It is winter and starting to snow when she gets to the cabin. Guess who is at the cabin next door – Ryan! It is a nice story of reconnection with a historical love story unfolding as well. Very nice read.
So cute that a young girl fell in love with an older guy, over the summers throughout her childhood. Little did she know, he loved her too. I enjoyed them reconnecting and telling their truths. Sweet to see how they found out about their grandparents love also. Good read.
This was the first time I have heard the entire poem. It was nice how the story blended. Good the couple got to know their grandparents even though they were gone. Good job Ms Gaines.
I truly enjoyed this love story. Yes, a love story. Depicting regular folks that get second chances and like and love one another genuinely. Bonus was the slow unfolding love story of the elders. Sign.... just good reading!
Over the river and through the woods. Good book. Beautiful story about the love that was always there. Always open. Just beautifully written. Looking forward to more by this author
I like the start it was so you. The story itself was beautiful for it take the reader from Colorado to Georgia . I love that Jazz and Justin as kids spend the summer with their grandparents an created a beautiful bond. I love the love story of the grandparents. I cry for they had a love that happens once in a life time. Thank you for this book.
I really tried to like this one but found it hard to do so. The story started out well but went downhill pretty quickly. There were so many opportunities to color in the lines but Ms. Gaines missed most of them. The author usually does a much better job of character development but these were pretty much one dimensional. And as has become more common than not, the novella could have stood a better review from a proofreader.
I wish it was longer!!! Justin and Jazzy was the very definition of "I know what I want", even as a kid. To find out, that not only they had an undying live for each other, that their grandparents did too....uber sweet. Ugh, how does one bring out all of my emotions in such a short time?! Awesome story!
This storyline was awesome. Jazzy and Justin relationship started at young age with hopes of when they grow up they’ll be husband and wife. They didn’t disappoint, beautiful happy after.
I gave this modern-day interracial love story a five star 🌟 rating because it was a great inspirational fantasy story, albeit short! I liked the fact that Jazzy and Justin were able to reunite after so many years as adults and got married! Kudos
Quite different from the typical IR novel. I loved the twist about their grandparents. My only regret is that their story exists in a vacuum (the house) with little to no interactions with the outside world. Justin, for instance mentioned the racism in his extended family, it would have been interesting to see their reaction to their relationship given what they thought about their grandparents’relationship.
The best way to describe this book is that it read like a fairytale. I really enjoyed it. A tale within a tale as the lives of our protagonists' grandparents were also revealed. A quick read for a lovely spring day. Nothing heavy just light and refreshing. Ms Gaines, you have given us a snack to keep us going while waiting for our next meal (or your next book). Another good story from one of my favorite authors. Thanks!
I loved the story of Justin and Jazzy, they were an adorable couple from the early years when Jazzy asked Justin to be her husband. The twist in the story is the love story regarding their grandparents, I was pleasantly surprised to read that they had been in love for years! The only disappointment I had reading this story is, it was too short, nevertheless it was lovely and funny to read.
Omg! Please write more on them. This was just wonderful or maybe I am bias, because I am a fan of yours. Your books always leave me wanting to know more. Never stop doing what you do best..writing.
This was the sweetest childhood sweethearts, second first chance love story I’ve ever read! Olivia Gaines just keeps giving life to the most special characters. Gifting us with her storytelling finesse and comedic flare. Justin Wolfe and Jaczlene ‘Jazzy’ Allen, are a love made in heaven. In their own childhood May-December innocence and only seeing each other during summer breaks, their love grows even though they’re apart; one finding his way, while the other waits for fate to guide them back together!
I loved this story! Justin and Jazzy were connected from childhood. She told him stories as he worked. She new she loved him at 14. Justin loved her but it was the wrong time. The secondary love story is not to be missed. No spoilers here, just read it.
