A good anthology about the governance, policy and politics of the first term of Modi government in india, specifically 2014-2018. At times it is repetitive as is the case with most anthologies.
The book is divided in 2 parts. While the first mainly deals with the style of governance of PM Modi, centralization of major decisions in govt, his economic policies, demonetization, GST, different welfare schemes and the stance on welfare schemes, judiciary under the govt, the different democratic institutions and media-govt complex, the latter mainly raises the concerns about the attack on minorities and biggest religious minority, the propaganda, the fault lines in the views of general zeitgeist around secularism, attack on secularism, colleges, universaties, civil societies, international NGOs.
The articles are well-written by experts, reflective of the non-partisan nature of their writing, sometimes using words and phrases that are more of a reflection of writer's tendency to show off. Some articles were just not needed, some could be clubbed together. This book is quite conclusive in its analysis, filled with data from public institutions and news reports.
There conclusions on all the matters may invoke a feeling based on where your affiliations lie but it is certainly a very much required reading no matter what.
