Luca's Lessons

Rate this book
An Italian Dom guides a Swiss banker through the world of BDSM and she threatens his most important rule.

Sparked by curiosity and drawn by need, Swiss banker Claire asks Italian businessman Luca to introduce her to the D/s lifestyle. He agrees, as long as she abides by his number one rule of not falling in love. The two then embark on a slow, complete and realistic path of liberating Claire’s true submissive nature.

But as their lessons progress, blurred lines morph into a child’s scribbled drawing when feelings creep into their playtime. And with new emotions bubbling under the surface, Luca questions Claire’s hard no. She calls “red” and walks away, leaving the Dom sure he’s lost the one sub who finally saw his true desire to be cared for.

Now, certain she’s broken his only rule and torn by thoughts of betraying her dead husband, Claire must decide between exploring the love she’s found or locking away her heart with the ghosts of her past.

Slow to build but great ending.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
From the cover you get a distinct impression of what this book will entail. However, this book is a bit different from the hardcore BDSM stories that are out there. This book is more of a story about mutual respect and a developing love affair.
The authors focus more on developing the characters and their connection rather than the sexual aspect of the lifestyle. It takes a while to get to the climax of the story, so to speak, and yet you realize that they are becoming more and more attached in both heart and mind.
While the sexy times are great, that part pales in the actual love story portion. The hard NO's on both parts take a hit and they both eventually realize what they have together.
I would classify this book as more erotica than bdsm, however, much of the story revolves around a club and the scenes are light.
Overall a satisfying love story with a great ending.
📚 Genre: Erotic Romance
⚠ Content Warnings: BDSM. Explicit sexual content. Dealing with grief.
⚠ Read if: you are looking for a BDSM read with better minded MCs.
Luca's Lessons is my first read from both of these authors and I'd like to say, I am completely satisfied. So many poorly written BDSM novels are all over the bookish market, it is enlightening to see one so promising. The execution was on point, the characters had backbone and are fully knowledgable on what they got into.
Luca Bernardi, an Italian businessman, meets Claire Favre, a Swiss banker, and he introduces her to the wonderful world of BDSM. This books tends to click most of the erotica cliches, but I am happy to report that the heroine is not a virginal doormat with no substance at all.
I think this book is a great representation of Dom/sub relationships where the emphasis on TRUST and care for well being is above everything else.
Loved this. Will look into the authors and their future books.
I wish I could give LUCA’S LESSONS more than five stars! Readers… If you are looking for a sexy story centered around a responsibly-written BDSM setting, that has emotionally-developed and hot AF characters but also manages to be a heartfelt, sweet read, pick up a copy of LUCA’S LESSONS by Deana Birch and Amelia Foster.
Luca Bernardi is a yummy, ridiculously handsome Italian Dom with a love of wine, his family, sex, and his club, a safe place where patrons can live out their BDSM desires. When he enlists Claire Favre, a beautiful, smart, driven banker for help with his business and she shows an interest in his lifestyle, he agrees to train her to become a sub—for someone else.
Luca and Claire do all the sexy things in the name of training, but really, it’s the emotion driving these characters as they move from sex to love that kept me invested in the book. They both have baggage they are dealing with, especially Claire, and Ms. Birch and Ms. Foster perfectly portray the subtle changes in them as the story progresses. I loved witnessing Luca and Claire as they delicately broke down their walls and learned to trust each other with not only their bodies, but their hearts and souls.
The secondary characters are a joy: Julien, Claire’s assistant and best friend, steals the show during some of their scenes and adds a bit of levity to the story, and Bruno, the fatherly influence on Luca, is genuine and sympathetic. Luca’s family is wonderful, in their own busy-body way, and reminds me of my own family.
LUCA’S LESSONS was just… wow. I wasn’t sure going in if it would be something I’d love, as I don’t usually read books about Dom/sub lifestyles and know nothing about what would make a good BDSM story (although I’ll admit to reading that very popular series-which-shall-not-be-named that has a number in the titles but that I’m told is a poor example…). As a fan of both Deana Birch (FASTER, SLOWER) and Amelia Foster (MEANT TO BE KEPT, LOVE DONE WRITE), I knew I had to try Luca. I’m so glad I did.
Now, I know that LUCA’S LESSONS was everything that those books were not. It’s a classy, polished, responsibly written and entertaining tale of love, trust, and fulfillment, letting go and of holding on, friendship, family, and of course, a happily ever after. Highly recommended for steamy romance fans. (Also, while I’m here I’ll put in my official request for Julien’s book, please and thank you!)
I loved this sexy BDSM story!
Luca Bernardi was a sexy Italian business man, who ran a club where people could go to live out their wildest fantasies, safely.
His first meeting with banker Claire is testing but he see’s something in her that sparks something inside of him and an epic love story follows.
This was BDSM written at it’s best, not tacky, it was written with emotion, showcasing the trust between two people who have a connection. It showcases the Dom/Sub relationship perfectly and how even the hardest on men can open up their hearts to the right woman.
I had the pleasure of reading this book as a beta reader, as both the authors are dear friends. However, as I’ve mentioned before, don’t let that fact sway you into believing this review is anything but accurate and true. I’ve been fortunate enough to surround myself with writers of an unbelievable caliber. Together, we’ve all grown and built one another up into what I truly believe is an unstoppable force. Luca’s Lessons, by Deana Birch and Amelia Foster, is just one example of the awesome power of a strong writing group. 💕
Reading the polished, finished product of this story was such a jaw-dropping and heartwarming experience. I had the good fortune of witnessing the entire life and this project, from its start as a niggling seed of an idea to the exciting moment where Ms. Birch and Ms. Foster had to decide between a horde of competing presses all clamoring for the rights to publish this gem. Right from the get-go, when Luca and Claire were nothing more than a set of inspiration pictures and a swirling of ideas in these two lovely ladies heads, I fell hard for their story. It’s a genuine dive into the world of BDSM that proves love really does trump all.
But beyond the characters, whom I loved and adored, I’d be remiss to not mention the rich, gorgeous contemporary world these two brilliant writers created. As an American who has never ventured abroad—but who has always wished to—this intricate view into Switzerland’s wonderful landscape was awe-inspiring and delightful. And the sneak-peek into a members-only BDSM club was just as enjoyable.
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who loves love and appreciates the true beauty of BDSM. Because, yes, there are stories out there that bastardize that world and give the members of that community an unfair and inaccurate portrayal. This aims at undoing some of the harm those stories might have caused and will leave you flushed and inexplicably happy. 🔥😁
BDSM plot with a bit of surprise events. Submissive Claire is a Swiss Banker with a past that keeps her from embarking on any romantic relationships. She is business only. Luca is an Italian business man who also has past ghosts to deal with but offers Claire his DOM experience. Enjoyed their dynamics and the narrative along with the characters were well developed. When I saw this one on Netgalley the cover grabbed my eye. I didn't even read what it was about. I'm so happy it caught my eye. I didn't want this book to end it was so good.
Claire has been raised feeling she was never good for anyone. Finally she met Liam her husband and unfortunately he gets Cancer and died. Something about Claire brought Lucca to her. I think all along he wanted her for him. He just wasn't sure a woman like her will want him.
Claire has new to dominant/submissive relationship but she is willing to do anything to make Lucca happy.
This book is not really a hardcore BDSM book. I found it to be first a love story and also a story of a woman Claire who is a Swiss banker getting over the death of her husband. When Luca an Italian businessman comes to her wanting a loan to purchase the club. Wanting to first know what the money would be given to she asks to see the club. This begins her interest in the lifestyle. Luca is also drawn to her from an article in a magazine but is really taken by her once he sees her in person. Now the two of them begin to spend time together and the first night that they together grab you the reader. That is when you know it is a love story and she is working through the loss of her husband. The more time they spend together the more they want to be with one another even when life pulls them apart. Like I said there is so much more to this story, and the other characters help with it, his Nonna, cousin, and niece, her assistant. Overall I found this to be a wonderful story. Luca’s Lessons is a contemporary BDSM erotic romance that tantalizes the reader with a slow-moving plot and well-rounded characters.
With class, it follows the teacher-student trope.
From the beginning, I was treated to an Italian Dom who had ethics, who knew when to step back, and when to be firm.
Absolutely. Amazing.
I have been a huge fan of Deana Birch for a long while now and having the added bonus of reading a new to me author, Amelia Foster, right along with her was awesome. Luca’s Lessons is different from what I have read by her in the past but I was blown away with how much I loved it.
Luca’s Lessons is very different from other books about the BDSM lifestyle. It is not focused on the sex or the scenes as much as it is their relationship with one another. While their sexy times are hot as heck they do not make this book. It is their actions, chemistry, values, their past and so much more. They each have baggage to overcome in order to fully explore their relationship and These authors have such an amazing way of bringing all of it together.
Luca’s Lessons was so much better and different from what I thought it was going to be. I am glad I put aside my book boundaries, so to speak, and dove right in. I really did not want this gem to end and I look forward to the wordy creation these two come out with next.
A slow moving BDSM with lots of instruction for a newbie Claire to this world. Her heart broke when her husband died, but Luca isn't interested in love just her. There's a lot of angst and a little drama mixed into the world of BDSM. Luca was yummy and perfect for her and helped her grow and move forward. Love, of course, does happen along with a secret from Claire. Her BFF and assistant was hilarious, just loved him. I just wished it moved a little faster.
I wish there had been a glossary to translate all the Italian, so I wouldn't have to stop and go type in it figure out what he said.
I read a lot of romance it’s my thing. And I have a type. Even if I’m reading a ‘dark’ romance I’m not keen on the ‘alpha-hole’ lead and that is something you see a lot in books that are labeled as BDSM books. The ‘Dom’ has to show his control by being a borderline abusive asshole. I could rattle off a few books, but I’m not gonna because this isn’t about being negative. It’s to highlight how Luca’s Lesson is different in that regard.
From the moment he steps onto the page, his dominance and control is there, but not by force. It’s in how he carries himself, how he interacts with Claire, always keeping the upper hand even in their professional business setting which sets them on the journey.
If you’re looking for a book full of steamy sex and kink, this isn’t it. And that’s not an insult. This story goes deeper. Claire is discovering a new side to herself and healing from the death of her husband in the process. This is an emotional journey as she grapples with conflicting emotions of having growing feelings for Luca and feeling like she’s being unfaithful to her husband’s memory.
Luca is respectful of this and while he is the Dom the D/s relationship is about respect and trust, something these two ladies showcase at every turn. But Claire isn’t the only one undergoing a change. He had three rules he gave Claire when they started her training. One of them, no falling in love. But rules smules. LOL This is a romance and there will be all the love. Which is something that scares the crap out of our Dom. It’s kinda cute when you think about it.
Luca’s Lessons is about more than BDSM and sex. It’s about healing, growing, and finding love unexpectedly. It’s what is all about. And, if that wasn’t enough, these ladies added in a little bit of mystery and intrigue. This book made me smile, and swoon, and cuss LOL, and fall in love.
If you haven’t guessed, I recommend Luca’s Lessons.
Plot
This is a story about Claire and Luca, both two damaged characters who are trying to navigate through their lives, both having been cut by loss, despair and hoplessness. Claire is a powerful banker having nurtured and created Zurich’s most elite banking establishment all amidst the love of her life dying from terminal cancer. A year on from her husbands death, Claire meets Luca, a charismatic, domineering Italian who she already has been affected by. Luca puts forward a business proposal, one in which her company can’t really afford to pass up. Claire is ever so dilligent and asks multiple questions to assertain the credentials of the proposal. The end result being, Luca asking her to come observe before making her final decision. The business proposal is an adult sex club that Luca is interested in buying and once claire steps foot into the building it awakens feelings and thoughts she would never have deemed possible.
Characters
The narrative within the story allows us time to build a connection with both the protagonists. Both Claire and Luca are equally as damaged as the other. The story was focussed around the fact that Claire had lost herself during the grieving process of losing her husband. The persona that she emitted to the world through her professional persona was indeed very different to her private life. She is a strong, confident and doesn’t accept any bullshit where her career is concerned, but, the loss of her husband has left her not knowing what direction she is taking her life and generally feels that love has no place within her heart anymore. Luca on the otherhand, although being a strong and capable Dom doesn’t let anyone into his heart either. His mother died at an early age and it has obviously had a strong and profound effect on him to this day. He has had many submissives but mainly in a training capacity. No sub has ever seen inside his bedroom or apartment and his one hard limit is “no falling in love”. Both as broken and closed off as the other.
"That I can make my own happiness. That death is the reason to live".
The Writing
Both the authors, in my opinion, has done a stellar job at both researching and immersing the reader into the D/s world. It is refreshing to read a piece of fiction within the D/s world and it be accurate and not make it seem weird or judgy. The characters were complex but completely believable and I did find myself actually caring about the outcome of their story. This is the first book that I have read from these authors but I look forward to reading some more. The story flowed beautifully.
I was provided with an ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
When I first started reading this story, I thought it was going to be another bdsm story. How wrong was I! It was so much more than that. It was a beautiful love story. The characters were so well described that they were implanted in my minds eye. The immaculate Luca who was always well turned out but a little suspicious of everything coming in threes. A very proper Dom who always wanted to do everything right and always had concern for his submissive. Claire was described as intelligent and beautiful but vulnerable. This was the story of two people coming to an understanding of their individual needs and recognizing it as love. Luca loved his family and his friend Bruno who sold him the club. Claire had lost her husband and did not want to betray his memory but she recognized she had a need and Luca would fill that need. Claire was captivating and Luca was beguiled by her seeing to her wellbeing. A very emotional story of these two people. I loved the wit and repartee from Claire's friend Julian who greatly added to the story. I recommend this book and they are new authors to me but I will read more of their stories.
I so enjoyed this book! I adored that the Claire and Luca were smart, successful, mature people, entering into their relationship with their eyes open, even if both of their hearts were closed. I thought the way the book handled grief and emotional growth was so special and poignant. There were also a few interesting surprises that I didn't completely see coming, which I enjoyed very much.
And of course, it was hot, so very hot. The sex was hot, their chemistry was hot, the atmosphere was lush. It was so very, very good to read. I would completely recommend this fabulous and unique modern European erotic adventure.
Luca's Lessons was my first experience with this duo of authors.
I loved the cover. That's what drew my attention to this book in the first place.
I liked the story. It was everything the blurb promised it'd be. I liked the build-up, the way Claire and Luca gradually came closer and closer. Both of them were likeable, life-like characters.
I would have liked Luca to open up a little more about himself but his attention and dedication to Claire more than made up for this little shortage. He guided her with the utmost care on her sensual exploration while he too learned a few new things about his own needs. They definitely deserved their HEA. As a secondary character, Julien, was hilarious.
I liked the writing very much, the characters were well developed. I liked the emotional journey, the building of trust, the self-respect., the presentation of the BDSM world.
It was a delightfully kinky read.
Luca is a business man and Dominant at a BDSM club. Claire is a banker with curiosity about the lifestyle. The two are damaged but trying to move on with their lives. The one rule they make is not to fall in love only for sex. A slow build up but magnificent moment when the couple break all the rules. A lovely story about mutual respect, feelings and how the right person can change your life.
Not your average BDSM read! This is a slow building plot in both romance and sexy times. Luca and Claire are well rounded and developed characters. As Luca is Claire's trainer there is definitely a teacher/student trope vibe. Very well written and enjoyed.
Luca’s Lessons is a sexy tale of exploration and growth. Luca is a superb training Dom by has no room for love in his life. Claire is a widow and a high powered Swiss banker. When Claire asks Luca to train her his only hard limit is love. But as they train they find themselves growing closer. Can Claire breach his hard limit and can Luca teach her that it is okay to love again? This is a well paced sexy BDSM romance that didn’t push any hard limits for me.
It’s intellectual k!nk.
Luca needs Claire Favre’s bank.
Claire is a financial superhero.
Luca wants his club and it’s oricees in Claire’s safekeeping.
He offers to show her his club. And does so. Can Claire open up to his experiences?
Because what Luca is craving and needs is true intimacy and what lol he mess up and not realize what he has with Claire?
Luca thinks she’s the same as all his other women.
It’s a journey in vulnerability for both of them.
I think I fell in love!! With Claire...sigh. She is smart, savvy, sexy and all around an amazing character. Standing tall and asking for what you want with confidence is so attractive. Toss in an Italian man who is dark and brooding? Zing. I can't wait to read more by this author. I didn't want this to end.
A slow-burn erotic romance?
Not your typical erotic romance! Luca’s Lessons is a smart, heartfelt, and ooh-la-la sexy tour through BDSM with not-your-typical sub financier Claire and her Dom, Luca. Hitting on heavy topics like grief and infertility, it goes much deeper than titillation. And yet the HEA is candy-sweet. A cayenne-in-your-chocolate hot and sweet read. Can’t wait to see more from this author partnership!
Kink? Check. BDSM? Check? Steamy scenes? Double checked. I already knew what I was getting myself into when picking up this book. Straight up erotica with a plot. Shocking? I know. From page one, I loved Claire and Luca relationship and how they were able to move from being professional to having a Dom and sub relationship. Sometimes when reading BDSM erotica, the author could force the relationship and the unnatural state of it makes it an unenjoyable read or play it out slowly, fully developing the characters and plot, and that my friends is how the authors were able to immerse me into this read. The writing style was wonderful, there were some depth to the characters that made them balance each other and lastly the sex scenes were quite enjoyable. "Luca's Lessons" was overall an enjoyable read and would definitely recommend to anyone looking for erotica with an actual plot.
I'll admit that it's been a while since I've picked up a BDSM book. Not because I have an issue with it, but because it hadn't appealed to me as much as others lately. That's until I read the blurb for this book. I'm glad I picked it up.
Claire is a bit of a socialite. She's basically grown up with a silver spoon, but has worked hard to make a name for herself as well...and then her husband died. This last year has been nothing but work and building the business, that is, until a man walks through her office door, changing the way she sees life. But is she ready?
Luca's family has been in the public eye for years. Owning a successful winery will do that, especially being Italian. But he also lives a lifestyle his family isn't aware of. So when he's given the opportunity to purchase a BDSM club from his friend, he quickly realizes he needs to separate his banking accounts. Finding the right banker who will be discrete will be a challenge. Challenge accepted.
Obviously the chemistry between Luca and Claire is there. But that's not where the book pulled me in. It was reading about the way Claire not only accepted the lifestyle, but let go of the past. Luca was so gentle and patient, yet still the ever commanding Dom. To be honest, their friends stole my heart as well. In fact, I'm really hoping the boys get their own story.
