The sixth book in Clare Connelly's bestselling THE EVERMORE SERIES. Fall in love with fate, destiny and romance that's meant to be.
For all things Clare Connelly, please see www.clareconnelly.co.uk, the official home of Clare Connelly on the web.
Clare Connelly grew up in a small country town in Australia. Surrounded by rainforests, and rickety old timber houses, magic was thick in the air, and stories and storytelling were a huge part of her childhood.
From early on in life, Clare realised her favourite books were romance stories, and read voraciously. Anything from Jane Austen to Georgette Heyer, to Mills & Boon and (more recently) 50 Shades, Clare is a romance devotee. She first turned her hand to penning a novel at fifteen (if memory serves, it was something about a glamorous fashion model who fell foul of a high-end designer. Sparks flew, clothes flew faster, and love was born.)
Clare has a small family and a bungalow near the sea. When she isn't chasing after energetic little toddlers, or wiping fingerprints off furniture, she's writing, thinking about writing, or wishing she were writing.
This was a delicious angst filled romance. I loved the plot, the protagonists, angst, their chemistry and passion. I liked that heroine had a past which in turn gave her strength and character. She was such a kind soul. The most beautiful part of this book was when heroine met hero’s ward Freddie for the first time. It touched my heart. Theirs was a bond so precious. I loved the hero too. Though one action from his past bothered me a little. I also loved the scene in which OW shows up to create trouble and hero is repulsed by her. Usually I hate unnecessary Ow drama but here it worked. Epilogue was so good. I would certainly read this again. Recommended and safe.
Do you have any idea what these last few months have been like? Do you have any idea how hard it’s been? I have spent every day living in some kind of hell, trying to forget you and simultaneously wanting to remember every single detail of you because only then, when I could conjure you up in my mind, did I feel something like whole again. I fell in love with you and I will always love you but I hate you a little bit too, Benedetto. I hate you for being everything I’ve ever wanted and nothing I can have. I hate you for the way you woke me up and walked away from me, the way you pushed me away even when everything between us was so damned good.” OTT stupidity of the H caused all these angst, as you can easily guess. And I loved it! 😎 And I loved the grovel. ❤️
There was more of it but I don't want to spoil all of it for you. 😉 I just want to say that this was a perfect final for The Evermore Series, even if I am sorry that it was finished.
When Clare does it right, she does it soooooo right!
Okay two days ago I swore I would never read Clare Connelly again, but here I am. Feeling all unicorny and lovemerized! This was a good book. I loved both the hero and the heroine. He gets custody of his best friends child and is totally overwhelmed. He goes through nannies like they're batteries and then he finds Cleo. Immediately he is thinking a wife may be more permanent (of course all billionaires in the unicorverse do this and it's so believable right?) so because her to be his wife and of course she says yes as all good heroines do in Unicor and it's all sweet and hot and..aaaah. Till she goes and spoils it all by saying something stupid like 'I love you,' (love that song!).And of course Uni-heroes never believe that there is such a thing and he freaks out and she gets hurt , and then he has an epiphany and it was just so wonderfully unicorny that my ovaries wept. Lol I exaggerate but believe me it was a very sweet romance. So I guess I may be reading Clare Connelly again. The unicorn gods decree it.
Sweet marriage of convenience story. Hero asks heroine interviewing for a nannying job to marry him so his orphaned ward can have a steady source of love for the next 16 years.
Heroine accepts because (1) she is attracted to the H (2) she's in love with the orphaned toddler after spending ten pages with him (3) she's got nothing else in her life.
They settle in the H's villa in Rome. Have lots of sex. Explore the H's commitment issues, etc. . .
There's a last minute OW who *passes out* after her drunken encounter with the heroine. There's no revenge like a drooling, snoring OW who has to wake up with a hangover and knowing all is lost.
I totally loved this book and loved Cleopatra and Benedetto and little Alfredo. They made a lovely family.
Cleopatra and Bene had such awesome chemistry it was palpable every time the two were together-- actually even in their thoughts about the other when they were apart.
The sex scenes were mind-blowing. Nowadays, in most books I find sex scenes are some sort of work-outs --push, pull, grab, tear clothes-- more on the rough than sensual. However, in this book these scenes were beautifully and sensually done. Even the build-up scenes although slow were hot be it the swimming pool scenes or the one where they bump into each other at the main door when Cleopatra was stepping out for an ice-cream and Benedetto entered the house same time and she finds herself pinned against the wall and they were almost on the way to consummating their marriage but Benedetto ended it when she told him she was a virgin. But, two days later, even that couldn't keep Benedetto from consummating his marriage and we have another hot and steamy scene.
Oh yeah, there were times, when I felt like giving both Cleopatra & Bene a knock each on their heads-- - Cleopatra, for just because she'd fallen in love with Bene she wanted him to tell her he loved her. She made it a moot point and plunged herself and every one in misery even willing to break the marriage which she'd entered into solely to give an orphaned three-year old the stability of family having understood his pain and sense of displacement with his world coming apart on his parents' death for she herself had gone through it every time she was shuttled from one foster home to another until she was adopted, but even there she had a very hard time. -- And, Benedetto, for doing everything, even sending her away when he saw she was miserable with him and saying stuff that showed clearly he was in love with her, but not realizing it sooner. Idiota!!
And he gave into temptation then, wrapping his hands over hers, holding them to his chest. When he spoke, his voice cracked a little. “I would give you everything I could – I would try to make you happy, but we both know it would never be enough for you.” His stomach was churning, his pulse like a tsunami. “You were right the other night. You deserve the fairy tale, every single perfect bit of it, and I’m not offering that.” “What do you want?” That, it turned out, was an easy question to answer. “I want you to be happy.” He lifted a hand to her cheek, padding his thumb over her lower lip. “I need you to be yourself again.” He pushed his body forward, unable to resist touching her, and wishing he hadn’t when he was reminded of the weight she’d lost. He would have said he knew every curve of her skin but she was altered now, altered by him and his neglect of her needs. “Your laugh is one of my favourite things – I need to know you’re laughing again.” She was crying now, because of him. He dragged her into his arms, holding her body to his, breathing her in, knowing this would be the last time they stood like this and wondering at the sense of rock-like dread in his chest cavity.
Yes, do keep a box of tissues at the side for this heartbreaking parting scene. It's because of this delicious angst and that I loved them both I'm going to regard this as love making people do crazy things.
A quick synopsis:
With drug addicts for parents, Benedetto had a very unhappy childhood & had to fend for himself all his life. With a little help and push from his best friend from school, Jack, who was more like a brother to him, and his own single minded determination he is now a billionaire. Jack and his wife and their little son, Alfredo-- who was Bene's godson-- were the only family he had. They helped him come out of the devastation from his scandalous love-affair a year ago with a married woman (he didn't know she was married when he started the affair). Now, both are dead in a fatal plane crash. Along with that heartbreaking news comes the shocking news that he now has full custody of his godson. Having never wanted children in his life and with seven nannies leaving in six months, he's out of his depth.
Twenty-four year old Cleopatra comes to him in response to his advertisement for another nanny. At the interview, a wailing-squealing Alfredo bursts into the study and clings to Bene, who has no clue what to do. Cleopatra always loved children which is why she became a nanny, but with Alfredo she fell instantly in love with him.
With great patience and tenderness, she manages to calm him down and allow her to take him into her arms where he eventually falls asleep. She was so engrossed in her task that she didn't realize she was being intensely watched by black wolf eyes. She was stunned when the offer was no more for a nanny but Bene's wife. Bene was such a manipulative bastard even to the extent of hinting at probably giving Alfredo up for adoption if he she did not marry him having correctly read her raw expressions of love and empathy for the little orphan. But, he was clearly at his wits' end and wanted a permanent fix which he saw in Cleopatra.
It was to be an open marriage. They could both get involved with others, as long it was very discreet. Cleopatra didn't know what to make of his emphatic assurance that he would never fall in love with anyone, but it was absolutely clear the marriage was only to give stability to Alfredo. Of course, it never works like that when there's strong chemistry and constant sexual hum between the two individuals and so they fall into bed together. For a while the two in addition to the sizzling sex, are happy and contented in each other's company, even having the odd fight and making-up like normal husband and wife do. Although, Alfredo panicked if Cleopatra wasn't around, he was growing into a happy and contented kid.
Then, Cleopatra has a rude shock when Bene's ex-flame walks into their home drunk and tells her she's left her husband and wants Bene back. And, Cleopatra, who by now has fallen in love with Bene -- feared that now that the woman whom Bene loved --although Bene kept saying he'd thought he'd loved her-- was free, there was every chance of him falling back in love with the woman and no chance for Cleopatra at all. Bene however has no such feelings for the woman and sends her packing.
But, that was not enough. Cleopatra wanted Bene to love her and from then on became all about her love for Bene and his inability to love her and the heartbreaking four month separation until Bene puts us all out of misery when he goes to his wife and tells her how much he loves her and how he's miserable without her.
The epilogue is sweet, with happy & contented Bene giving courage to his pregnant wife to meet her recently discovered half-brother for the first time, who is also known to Bene. He turns out to be Vitalo Katrakis, hero of the previous book in the series Her surprise baby Christmas and I am going to look out for this book next.
CC is an auto boy author for me and this one turned out one of her really good ones ... H and h meet when he becomes guardian of his godson, a 3 year old traumatised child. h applies for a nanny's position. Due to having changed many nannies, H proposes to marry her. H realises that brought up in foster care h won't let another child be abandoned and he is right. So they marry .. this seemed a bit far fetched but it works in the book so I just put on my rose-tinted glasses ... Physical chemistry is intense and they are soon sleeping together .... h is leery of relationships as is H .... There is some OW drama but H puts a quick stop to his ex's machinations ... As usual, towards the end, H is stuck on a physical relationship while h opts to tell him she loves him and wants more from their relationship They separate for a few months before getting back together ... Its a fairly simple story with no dramas ... what works in this book is the intense chemistry they share and also even though H is spouting a lot of stuff about not believing in love, his actions towards h are contrary; its obvious he loves her but he has yet to realise it ... Both H and h were neglected children and it was nice to see them bond ... What annoyed me? This is CC's self pub book and there are a few grammer and comma issues ... also, at one point h's name is Cleopatra Ash Compton and a few chapters later its Cleopatra Ash Cooper ... this was a glaring mistake ... All in all, its a great book ...
Billionaire playboy Benedetto di Fiori, is shocked to learn his closest friends have left him guardianship of their sweet 3-year-old son, he never wanted children and doesn’t know what to do with a little boy misbehaving badly as he tries to cope with the fact his world has tilted on its axis.
Cleopatra Ash-Compton arrives for a job interview but finds herself emotionally manipulated into a name only marriage – her own experiences as a child meaning she is determined that Alfredo will be raised with love, affection and a potent sense of motional security. What neither Benedetto and Cleo count on is the intense attraction they feel for each other, but Benedetto is firm he will never love, after a disastrous relationship he no longer believes in the sentiment/word.
Alfredo and Cleo’s interactions were sweet, and the heat between her and Benedetto clear, but the level of tension,
There is some OW drama, but just a little, and it does cause a big fracture in the lives of the two main characters. The OW needs her head tested and a reality check.
This was an ok light read, but for some reason unlike some of the author’s other books I didn’t find myself strongly engaged, or that invested in how things would play out.
What a perfect way to end a great series! A beautiful, sexy and angst filled story, once again, with amazing chemistry between the MCs. The seduction scenes were scorching. This heroine had a tough childhood but still found the capacity to love the children she took care of, as both a nanny, and then a mother to the hero's godson. As for the hero, he did suffer from great moments of stupidity but he did come around nicely. I was glad to see Cleo reunited with her half brother, the hero from book 4, which redeemed him further in my eyes.
Beautiful book, I enjoyed it so much. The hero needs a nanny for his orphaned godson, here comes heroine, beautiful and loving. He understands he won the lottery and asks her to marry him. The marriage will be only on paper, but surprise surprise when a beautiful woman meets a handsome man and they are young and free and live together what happens? Sex happens, of course. Passion flares between them and it seems to be all right until the heroine who is a romantic at heart, falls in love with the hero and he rejects her because he doesn’t do love. And why doesn’t he do love? Because his parents were junkies and because one year before he was hurt by a woman he loved but was married and stayed with her husband. So he will never love anyone. Mmm mmm. Heroine leaves him, he’s unhappy and after some months (really????) he realizes he always loved the heroine and he can’t live without her. I loved the heroine that despite her childhood and all the people who rejected her was full of love and joy, the hero was just mmm mmm but not cruel or mean. There were a couple of things I didn’t like. The ow, that should have been the love of his life, was a cruel and selfish b...h, nasty and awful. Since the hero was over 30 when they met I really don’t understand how he could fall for a woman like that. He didn’t seem so stupid. And why the ow has always to be nasty and mean? This was a little weird. I’d have understood if she was a nice woman, or the hero was younger. And how could he reject the heroine that was so sweet and loving and different from ow? Anyway a very good book.
Benedetto, a rich, successful, damaged hero who is destined to walk the world alone meets his match in the beautiful, caring Cleopatra and suddenly he can't work out how to function alone anymore.
I loved this story. From its emotional outset where you feel Ben's grief at the loss of his friends, his panic at becoming a Godfather, and the bone-deep loneliness in Cleo and her need to reach out and nurture the child who has lost everything. To the ending where they get their well-deserved and hard-earned HEA.
Ben is such an alpha hero, he had me in a tizz from the off as he put Cleo through her paces. Their connection between the sheets was off the charts, and the emotional bond they build throughout the story is beautiful to read. I was in tears at the end.

Bennedetto Alfredo became a guardian of Alfredo, the 3 year old son of his bestfriends who died in a plane crash. He hired Cleopatra as the nanny and his wife. He was hurt by a scandal affair with a married woman before so he do not want love. Ben and Cleo was so comptible in sex department but Cleo wanted more. Ben tried to hold him to stay with him by blackmailing her using Alfredo-Freddie. The realization dawned on Cleo when Melinda came to their house drunk and slept at their living room. Ben and Cleo had heated argument and she confessed her feelings but Ben said he was unable to love anyone ever including him. A week later, he let her go. And only four months later, he seek her to get her back with confession of his undying love. This book made me crying badly.

The last of the Evermore series! It was beautiful! Benedetto was Alpha and Cleopatra was his antithesis but this chemistry was explosive. They got married to give Alfredo a stable home and instead they found belonging. I have read so many books and I simply went teary on his declarations on how he understood his version of love is. He didn't say the three words as traditionally books have it but everything he did spoke volumes of what she meant to him....this is a book that makes you sigh and wish for....CC this was awesome.
This was such a good book to read. It had sad and sweet moments. I loved the characters and their connection. I loved it when he said: “It is I who am grateful and blessed.” He dropped is head lower, so his lips buzzed hers. She smiled against his mouth. “You deserve every thing that is good in this life, my beautiful, darling wife. And I intend to make sure you have it.”
They met during a job interview. He needed someone for his god son. And she was a nanny needing a job. But he changed his mind. He got her to marry him instead. It was supposed be a marriage of convenience. Will the chemistry between them ignite or sizzle? What about their own past demons? What happens next is the story line.
I loved the fantasy of Claire's characters! Spot on! I would love stories about 2nd loves, older lovers, there is story here too. Almost all the books have errors in character names from page to page. I have read 6 so far ,at times like these they are a great escape!! Thanks Claire. Lizz
The book good. Marrying someone because you did not interrupt your life because you felt you did not know to love. What was missing from this story, did the godson finally received from his godfather?
