Dublin Rugby #4

Break Down

Liam
All my life, I looked and wondered. Could I? Would I? And then, finally, I did. But when I sampled a taste of that forbidden fruit, my whole world came crashing down. So when the opportunity to play rugby in Edinburgh came along, it was my best chance to put the past behind me. But one look at Chef Lachlan MacLeod’s knowing whisky-colored eyes, the dark scruff dotting his jaw, and the colorful ink lining his forearms, and I’m wondering all over again.

Can I? Will I?

My heart says no, but my body says yes.

Lachlan
I have no problem with who I am … except for my unfortunate tendency to hook up with bi-curious straight guys only looking for a thrill. I’ve vowed never to go down that path again, but when Liam Donnelly shows up at my restaurant—his eyes filled with heat and secret longing—I can't help myself.

I know falling for the closeted rugby player is a terrible idea, but he calls to me in a way no one ever has before.

And now, what started as a safe way for him to explore his sexuality has morphed into something much deeper. I want a relationship, and I want it with him. But loving the gorgeous, broken athlete might actually mean letting him go.

Well, what a delectable discovery this was. What’s not to love? A Irishman, a Scotsman, rugby and whisky all with a romantic cherry on top.

description For years, I’d avoided my desires—focused my attentions elsewhere—but now that I’d acted on that curiosity, I didn’t know if I could deny that part of myself any longer.”

Break Down is a story of friendship, acceptance and of course, love. Having had a bit of a time of it of late following being blackmailed, Liam Donnelly is finding his feet in Edinburgh after been traded by his team in Dublin. On top of this he’s finally acknowledging he’s bisexual—not that he’s ready to share that with the world—and the last thing he expects is to walk into a restaurant and meet a man who quickly unleashes the very feelings he’s trying to keep to hidden: chef, Lachlan MacLeod.

description

The sexual tension between Liam and Lachlan leaps from the pages from the moment they meet and, as they both wrangle with the realisation that their feelings are running deeper than either could have imagined, it’s new territory for them both, particularly with the added complication of life in the public eye. Theirs is a story of firsts, with which comes every imaginable emotion, and whilst there are moments that will tug hard on your heart, there are others that leave it happy.

description I don’t know what the fuck I’m doing when it comes to relationships. I’ve never had a serious one in my life. But if I’m going to do this, I want to do it with you.”

My only issue with this was a couple of occasions when we were told about matters rather than be shown and I would have liked the emotional impact the potential scenes could have created. But in the grand scheme of things that’s minor, I loved these men together, I was cheering them on from the start and Rebecca Norinne has herself a new reader. I’ve already grabbed the rest of this series to rewind with in preparation of Aiden’s story which I can’t wait to see how she handles.

The blurb tapped into my inner sports nut even though I know fuckall about rugby aside from that Friends episode when Ross thought he was going to impress his Brit girlfriend then squealed. Doesn’t matter though, sports romances are my kryptonite. Add in a chef and…

DONE!

This is the fourth book in what up to now has been a MF series but can be read as a standalone. Liam is a pro rugby player and is coming to terms with being bisexual. He had a drunken encounter then the guy turned around and blackmailed him. First manlove and the guy turns out to be a blackmailing dicknozzle! So when an offer to play for Edinburgh comes along it seems like a good time for a change of scenery thus he takes it and gets the hell out of Dodge, or in this case Dublin.

He soon meets acclaimed chef Lachlan and sparks fly. Liam has vowed to keep his head down and just play rugby but all the flirting and dancing around each other chips away at his resolve.

Lachlan is out and the notion of returning to the closet is something he vowed never to do. He also swore off "straight" dudes too but he’s never been this drawn to another person, so he compromises himself to be with Liam on the DL. Naturally this causes conflict over time because who wants to be someone's dirty little secret?

Every book I read I try to identify with the characters and something I've come to realize about myself with coming out books is I tend to need angst to really identify with the closeted character. Without it I find it’s just words on a page that rarely get my emotions involved. That was my biggest problem with Liam. His closetedness seemed like the standard cookie cutter athletes/pro sports aren't LGBTQ friendly plot device without teeth. He tells himself once he’s hung up his cleats he’ll live life on his own terms but he soon realizes that’s not really fair to Lachlan. Expect lots of push/pull between them. Liam is a decent communicator though usually after he's stuck his foot in it, but still. My other problem with him is he’s kind of an anger ball. I get that he’s supposed to be a badass on the pitch but don’t be a douche off the pitch. No one likes a douche.

Lachlan, on the other hand.. I liked being inside his head because he's a good person. Plain and simple. I liked him. It didn't hurt that he's a chef and tattooed lumbersexual…

Their character development was mediocre with both never making it past 2D for me, but there are some sweet moments and the relationship development was good which is what ultimately won me over.

I needed him to touch me everywhere, and to keep on touching me and never stop.

The sex is kind of same same. They do have chemistry, are clearly into each other and Liam is a virgin so this should appeal to many. I'm probably jaded because at this point I've pretty much read everything on the sex spectrum so an author has to dig deeper than a little dirty talk, face fucking and rimming to blow my doors off. To be fair, as a frequent MM reader I’m probably more critical of verbiage and sex stuff than maybe others would be, though I will say, I had this reaction a few times...

But I believe this is the author’s first foray into MM and I'm excited by the fact that several traditionally MF writers are trying their hand at MM; makes me happy in my face. The MF bleeds through periodically but nothing too egregious. The narrative is somewhat clunky and would benefit from some polishing especially with regard to some of the crass language that got to be a little much at times. Maybe it tried too hard to convince me of their connection but the HEA is heartfelt, so I do hope she continues to write MM because I liked this more than I didn’t.

Lastly, there were an inordinate amount of editing issues that pulled me out of the story including continuity errors, extraneous words, the wrong name being used and repeated phrases. I don't normally mention this kind of stuff so for me to mention it... I hope she finds a new editor or proofer soon.

Trigger for drug usage.

Passionate, provocative, and deliciously steamy!

Break Down is a sultry, sports romance featuring the confused, closeted, sexy Liam and the mature, confident, supportive Lachlan as they discover that the heart wants who the heart wants and that some things are definitely worth fighting for.

The prose is fervent and crisp. The characters are multi-faceted, vulnerable, and endearing. And the plot is an alluring mix of sizzling tension, palpable chemistry, heartfelt emotion, mouth-watering fare, sporty moments, and explosive heat.

Break Down is, ultimately, a seductive, heartwarming story with scrumptious characters and an intriguing plot that is hands down one of my favourite MM romance novels of all time!

Sport.

MM romance.

Duh?!
😉

Well, at first glance, I thought it would be steamy as hell, and well, just steamy as hell, and I would feel like I always feel when I read about MM stuff - "left out"

yeah, Samuel, i feel ya, man, I feel ya...it's a man fuck only ...LOL

BUT aside all my sarcasm, people, this is a story of a rugby player Liam Donnelly who transferred from a Dublin rugby club to Edinburgh, cause of a blackmail issue, concerning his private sexual relation with another man who is threatning to publish discriminating pictures and destroy his public image. But the bigger issue for Liam is the fact that he hasn't come clean with himself concerning his sexual orientation, and he's struggling with all the ramifications if the knowledge of him being a bisexual would do to his career...

it would seem that Liam liked pussy but he loved dick, more and he couldn't quite come to terms with it, himself...

So when he moves to another city, he believes it's a new start and a chance to clear things out in his own head...but one look at Lachlan MacLeod , a head Chef and owner of the famous restaurant CAMP, Liam is again shaken to the basic core, and he's absolutely terrrified with the rush of desire and lust towards this man.

And now, Liam has a chance to either deny it all completely or let go, and acknowledge the fact that yes, he is in fact a bisexual, and that he is in fact attracted to this man.

but their chemistry is based on physical contact alone, since Liam can't admit their relationship in public and is dredded the moment Lachlan will set the ultimatum. Cause not only has Lachlan been patient and full of understanding, he also vowed to himself he would never again be just a sexual plaything to another bi-curious man....and yet for Liam he does just that...
From the beginning, Lachaln had said he wouldn0t ever be another man's plaything; that he wouldn0t go back in the closet for me. And yet, that's precisely what he'd done - no questions asked.

Lachlan has gone through his own ordeal of causal sex, meaningless one-night stands, filled with drugs and alcohol, and now, that he's clean and aware of his surroundings, he won't bend for now one, until Liam. And that vow will be broken again, and again...until the man he loves, doesn't admit to love him back as a person, and not as a dirty little secret.
"I wanted you so bad I went back on a promise I'd made myself but now I remember why I made that vow in the first place. I can't go back in the closet for you."

Our desire for one another had never been in question, but whether we'd be able to sustain a relationship beyond just the intense, physical need we had for one another had always lingered at the back of my mind.

and then when the pressure comes to the full, it splits them open, and they each hold their subborn own until the stalemate notion breaks them apart...
We stood at an impasse. I needed him to acknowledge me and our relationship, and he needed me to be patient and hgive him more time. No matter how you sliced it, our needs were incompatible.

"I'm not ready for us to be over" - Liam

"You're not ready for us to continue, either" - Lachlan

when in fact, the strength for handling all the obstacles are in their heads, and the matters of the heart can't be ignored...despite the shape, size, form or body it all comes with :)
"The thing is, Lach", he whispered, his voice shaking, "I think I might be in love with you."

So, my general thoughts on this story are:
- the steamy sex was hawt, I admit.
- the drama with insights into the both characters POVs was legit and well paced in tempo, I could understand both sides, even though they did aggravated me, just a little bit LOL
- the transition from physical attraction/chemistry towards coupling was a bit "rushed" in my opinion,
(cause well, honestly, if a bloke is afraid of "coming out of the closet" and is not really clear with himself of what he wants/is in that field, than you don't just start this "role play" affair of living together just after you ignited the sex barrier...of course, he would be still confused, cause nothing has moved in one's head to acknowledge himself fully as a person...until the ultimatum and the fact that he might lose smth he wasn't aware he already had.)

but that's just my vision of things, I know it's not easy to state out loud things that might not still be accepted as "natural" or "conventional" by the society, BUT then again, it's a burden of any individual per se, and it should be paced accordingly, considering their own mental will and strength to stand up and acceopt themselves as they are.

And this story gave a glimpse of that notion of what goes on in someone's mind and heart while he/she is dealing with life altering truths.

"I waited with baited breath..."

Seriously? What did you "bait" your breath with? Cheese, like a mousetrap? Earthworms, like a fishhook?

DNF @ 16%, right at this point. And then I returned it to Amazon for a refund. Life is too short to put up with crap like this.

Straight up, this is one of the best romances I’ve read in a long time. There’s so much I enjoyed in this story I’m at a loss where to start. Oh Liam... how my heart went out to him having to leave his home and his friends and start afresh in another country with a new team, all because of the fear of being outed. Now in Edinburgh, still struggling with his sexuality, the last thing he expects is to meet Lachlan MacLeod.

The tension between them was palpable and it just felt so real; the emotional and the sexual parts. The way the sex was described was so refreshing; it was descriptive, raw and honest and some of the hottest I’ve ever read. The way the author described Liam’s first experiences with Lachlan was sublime, I swear I could almost feel Liam’s apprehension and sheer excitement and the bliss he felt.

“... I had to confront the truth: this wasn’t about me exploring all sides of my sexuality. This right here was a spiritual fu*king awakening and I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that while I liked women, a man was what I needed”

Liam’s sexual awakening was as heartbreaking as it was breathtaking, because, after finally finding himself, will he lose everything? Lachlan has fallen just as deep but he’s not willing to hide away in the closet, no matter how much Liam’s come to mean to him and this part right here tore me up because it was so fricking sad. I don't get too emo when reading a book, it does take quite a bit to move me, but this one did, in spades.

I honestly didn’t know how they’d find a way around this, but if two people were meant to be together, it’s these two. Surely a love this strong and sure can find a way? Surprises come from the unlikeliest of corners and a couple of unexpected revelations rock Liam’s world, but is it too late for a second chance?

I can’t recommend this book enough, I’d give it more than 5*’s if I could.

Finally a m/f series that branched into a m/m story that I really liked. This felt like the author wasn't just here for the view, but was sold on the property and was here to build. I haven't read the other books, but I've got to admit, the little bit of backstory we got was intriguing and out of all the m/f to m/m authors I've read lately, this one comes the closest to making want to read the other books.

Like most m/m sports themed romances this was heavy on the coming out quandary and of course, heavy on the sex.

I liked Lachlan, he had an interesting past but was stable enough to go into a relationship with a healthy outlook.

I liked Liam, he had his issues but he recognized quickly when his knee-jerk reactions hurt Lachlan and acted like a mature grown up and apologized and made actual changes to correct his behavior.

I liked Angus. More Angus. Please, more Angus in a kilt.

Sooo I did a thing.
Again.
I read a book in a series without reading the previous ones, which I know isn’t a total faux pas, but considering I am one of those that does believe in reading a series in order, it’s a thing. But I do have valid reasons for jumping into the mix with soon to be released one:

1) Rugby (I know, it’s a rugby series, but bear with me)
2) Hot chef (I am a foodie ~ which in my world means I simply love to eat and drink)
3) MM Romance!!

Any of the three separately and I’m leaning in closer to find out more, but all of them wrapped up in one book? Passing that would be like me passing up a medium rare delmonico with garlic mashed potatoes ~ it would never, ever happen. So, I dove in and absolutely adored Liam and Lachlan’s journey. It was sweet, smexy, frustrating and real and I savored each step forward and back that these men took in order to find their HEA.

It was hard not to love and adore Liam and Lachlan. Both are passionate about their careers and have worked hard for what they’ve achieved and know that they are lucky to be living out their dreams and don’t take it for granted. But where they diverge is in their personal lives. Liam is out and proud. He don’t flaunt it, but doesn’t hide it either. Lachlan, on the other hand, is in his own personal purgatory as he works to figure out just what he wants and what the consequences could be should he finally go after what he’s always wanted. Lachlan’s struggles combined with Liam’s understanding and compassion made their journey a mix of sweet and smexy swoony-ness and frustrated, wanting to pull my hair out groans because they had that inexplicable spark between them that only happens once in a blue moon and I didn’t want to see them give up on it. Thankfully, they do get their HEA and I love how it came about because it was perfect for them.

After reading the first chapter I gave myself a mental Gibbs smack for not getting my hands on any of the authors books until now because I really enjoyed Break Down. The writing was engaging and I really liked how she didn’t rush things with the characters, even when I really wanted her to, and let things unfold organically, not only between Liam and Lachlan, but Lachlan and his new teammates, who I wouldn’t mind hanging out with in future. Since, I did read out of order, I will say that Break Down can be read as a standalone. Even though I met some of the guys, Declan and Aidan, and got hints of their own stories I never felt lost, especially since Liam is starting over in a new city with a new team. I will say that while I may not get to the first three books in the series any time soon (The struggle is real with that particular TBR pile) I will be keeping an eye out for the next in series and any other books down the road.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of the book.

Breakdown is emotionally intense and heartfelt and sexy as hell! It reads well as a standalone, but as there are some mild plot spoilers for the previous books, if you plan on reading the series I recommend that you read them in order. Rebecca Norinne handled the plight of a closeted professional athlete with care and sensitivity (Liam's fear and anxiety was palpable, as was his affection for Lachlan), in addition to portraying the difficulties that would present for anyone that wants to be in a relationship with them (Lachlan's frustration with the situation was completely understandable). It was a wonderful journey watching Liam and Lachlan fall for each other - particularly since Liam's growth and acceptance of himself is evident along the way. 4 out of 5 wine glasses.

This was my first Rebecca Norinne book and I enjoyed it immensely. It was a fast and very enjoyable read. It had its fair share of angst, love, fun and it was truly the perfect MM romance that I had been craving.

I loved getting to know Liam and Lachlan but also all Liam's friends and team players (both past and present) and I know I'm gonna love the rest of the series. Also I loved getting bits of Edinburgh, the language, the culture, the scenery. Can't wait to keep reading this series.

Oh boy, I seriously enjoyed reading about these two and their endless convos and super fiery chemistry. I loved reading about Liam finding and exploring his true desires and watching him fall in love with the amazing man that was Lachlan *sigh* even with all the little dramas and angsts. I seriously enjoyed these two. I would definitely read a second book staring them.

So this is my first read from Rebecca Norinne and what a read i got! This is a fantastic M/M romance read. I'm a huge fan of this genre but if like many your looking for a book to start you off. I can Highly Recommend, this book is beautifully and tastefully written you will not be disappointed.

Break Down is a beautiful, heartwarming story, and is the 4th book in series, but can easily be read as a stand-alone as i did. From start to finished i devoured this read and couldn't put it down till i had. I was drawn in and captivated with Liam and Lachlan's story.

Liam is leaving a town and team he really thought he would be with till retirement. But with the threat of being outed he is left with no choice but to start a fresh with a new team in a new town. I really couldn't help but feel sorry for Liam, at his most vulnerable time a low life tried to exploit him for a quick earner. And that he had the feelings that he wouldn't be accepted, especially in a sport that for me (yes i'am British & Rugby is my sport) is the most socially acceptable sport i know, from players to fans. It broke my heart that he felt his only option was to leave. But the thing with running from the truth, it never leaves you and truth will always come through.

"Yes, I'm bi, that became my truth"

That truth also came in the form of a hot chef named Lachlan!! Liam never expected him but Lachlan quickly became all and everything Liam thought about and wanted. But can he trust him!!

I loved Lachlan's character and it really wasn't all plain sailing for him. He fall's just as hard and just as quick for Liam. The difference being Lachlan is openly gay and isn't willing to be somebody's secret. And while it broke my heart to see these two people hurting. I was really glad that Lachlan stuck by what he said he wanted in a relationship.

“I had to confront the truth: this wasn’t about me exploring all sides of my sexuality. This right here was a spiritual fucking awakening and I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that while I liked women, a man was what I needed”

Emotional and vulnerable characters with off the charts sexual chemistry. This read gave me all the feels and left me with the feeling's that i was there and apart of their lives. And that for me is fantastic writing. This is a must read is now one of my top reads of 2018! I look forward to expanding my reading list with more of Rebecca Norinne books.

Usually when it comes to a M/M romance, most of people wrickle their noses. Because is so easy to judge and put an label on it as something awful and gross. Do not forget love has no sex. Rebecca Norinne has written another great story don't giving a damn about taboo or stereotypes. Liam and Lachlan will show you the other side of love. because with them love is not just red, love is a beautiful rainbow. And all of us like a beautiful rainbow, right? because is colorful, natural and unique like their feelings. Break down will give you the incredible opportunity to see and understand the M/M love from inside and out. This story is full of contradict emotions, acceptance, trust, genuinity and compatibility at all levels, not as two men that fall in love with each other, but also two hearts that are telepathically communicating , completing and beating for each other. And if it is not love's about, I don't what it is.
This kind of love can give so much but can also take everything. Because is "special". Because is watched and "hunted". Liam has a lot to lose by showing his real emotions. Being a rugby star he's always a "source of gossip" not only because of his career's issue, but also ( or especially) because of his private life. Every step he takes could be the end for him. And all this improve his thousand insecurities. That's why Lachlan will have such an impact on him from the first moment. Lachlan is his magic "cure". He will guide Liam to be himself again to enjoy his life for what it is and what it has to offer. Lachlan and Liam will cross a lot of boundaries together. Lachlan is not only a handsome chief, he is also to most tender and sweet proof of loyalty, patience and understanding. And that's what Liam needs the most. What about the romance? Well their love is like the cherry on top of the most delicious cake. Lachlan gets the best recipe, while Liam gets the cherry, and they'll both enjoy it.

5+ stars for this amaaaaazeballs book.

(Note: No need to read the rest of the series to get what’s going on. The characters were recurring but the story flows well without having to read the rest of the series.)

No pun intended.

Liam and Lachlan. Damnnn they were good together. I loved Lachlan’s policy that he wouldn’t go back into the closet for another guy. No matter what. That kind of strength is admirable. And the end where Liam finally gets his head out of his arse was perfect.

Just perfect.

Almost made me wanna quit my MM reading spell and go read Declan and Adrian’s books.

Almost. Lol.

Maybe after some time. ;)

5 star shaped doses of the feels for BREAK DOWN!

When Dublin Rugby player Liam Donnelly is given a lowball offer from the team after 10 years and an injury that kept him sidelined for awhile, he knows he's at a crossroads. He can give up the game he loves, or he can accept an offer to play for Edinburgh, and an opportunity to start fresh. After being blackmailed by the first man he's ever been intimate with, Liam is terrified to act on his desires, but maybe, just maybe, moving to Scotland will give him the fresh start he needs to figure out what he really wants. And after meeting Chef Lachlan MacLeod, he immediately knows it's him.

Lachlan wants Liam, bad, but he isn't interested in being the secret plaything to a confused man. Liam tries to stay away, but the need to explore his darker fantasies is just too strong. He doesn't expect to fall for Lachlan, or for the chef to be the one who will change his life forever.

Oooh, ya'll, it's been awhile since I've read an excellent MM read, and BREAK DOWN is it! Daaaamn these dudes are sexy, I most definitely wanted to figure out a way to jump into my Kindle just so I could soak up their chemistry in person. Their connection was absolutely powerful, but my heart broke for both men. Lachlan wants nothing more than to be able to show affection for his man in public, and while Liam wants that too, he is so terrified of being outed that it's debilitating at times. While BREAK DOWN was incredibly erotic, mostly it was this brilliantly written and emotional tale about this couple learning to fall in love and the challenges that come with opening your heart and hiding from the world. I recommend this to fans of any type of romance!

Bottom Line: No OM/OW or sharing; MM sex, some condom use; no BDSM/kink; no sexual assault; no violence/murder.

This book y'all.

When I told people I was writing Liam's story, a few people looked at me cross-eyed. He'd been such a minor character in the books leading up to this one, and they had no idea why he warranted his own story. But I knew. From the beginning, this book has been waiting. And waiting. And waiting. I love Liam so, so much, and I knew he had to have a strong, tenacious counterpart. Writing Liam and Lachlan's story tested everything I thought I knew about myself as a writer. I know authors aren't supposed to have favorites, but Liam and Lachlan are some of mine. I hope you'll feel the same way once you read their journey.

Break Down is Book 4 in the Dublin Rugby series by new-to-me author, Rebecca Norinne. Say whaaa? *nods head* Yes, I am capable of reading a series out of order when they can be read as a standalone. Let’s not dwell on this too much, or my OCDs will kick in, and I’ll start twitching. Oi! *wags finger* No laughing #thestruggleisreal

Anyhoo, I digress... back to more important matters, THIS BOOK (squee!).

Liam Donnelly‘s life has gone to hell in a hand basket. I can’t even begin to imagine the strain someone must be under trying to deny a fundamental part of themselves. If we can’t be true to ourselves, how can we expect to be with others? *shrugs*

Transferring from Dublin to Edinburgh may not have been in his plans, but maybe a fresh start is just what Liam needs. At least he’s still playing his beloved rugby. His desires will just have to take a backseat. After all, he still likes women. Exploring his attraction to men will just have to wait until he no longer plays professionally. Yeah *shakes head*, like that’s gonna work! *palms face* Once that box has been opened, it’s not so easy to shut the lid...

Out and proud (plus smoking hot!) Scottish (whoop!) chef, Lachlan MacLeod has battled and defeated his own demons. His restaurant a roaring success, and happy in his own skin. He knows what he wants, and what he doesn’t. He won’t hide for anyone, but his immediate attraction to Liam is a complication he couldn’t have foreseen. With Lachlan’s heart on the line, he must decide if the passions Liam ignites is worth the cost to his soul.

Wow! I vacillated between wanting to go ‘tonto’ at Liam, and in the next breath, wanting to hug the crap out of him as he wages war with himself. I will say this; it is my most fervent wish that during my lifetime who we love has no impact personally or professionally on our lives.

This is no sweet romance, it is raw and gritty, but Liam and Lachlan’s connection speaks for itself. I’m slightly *pinches fingers* in love. Again?! I hear you cry, lol.

One teeny tiny thing that irked me, more a footnote really, because I bet you stopped reading ages ago *winks*. But, not enough to change my rating, was the intermittent use of American words when the story is set in Scotland. OK, sorry, *puts hands up* you are still reading. Please don’t shout at me, I just had to tell you...

So, can someone tell me if Aidan is up next? Hello? Someone, anyone... see? I knew you’d stopped reading - harrumph. OK, shutting up now.

4.5 Stars!

Oh my wow! This book is great! Full of emotion and love, it will grab your heart and tug!

What do you get when you take a hot rugby star who is sexually confused and add in a sexy, chef who knows what he wants? An excellent read! That's what. Liam loves women, but he also might love men. He's pretty sure he does, but after a single encounter with another man ends in blackmail, he takes a trade offer and joins the team from Edinburgh. When he arrives in town, he meets sexy chef Lachlan, who doesn't hide his interest in Liam one bit.

I loved both Liam and Lachlan. Lachlan was out and proud and yet he wanted Liam, who he knew wasn't out. He took a chance and agreed to be patient. There was no mistaking how much Lachlan cared for Liam. He was patient for far longer than most. I felt for Liam every single page. He was struggling with who he was and what he wanted. He was afraid to tell his friends he was bi-sexual. The emotion was palpable and the feelings between Liam and Lachlan crescendoed nicely.

If you're new to M/M romances, this one is a great one to start with. If your not, then this will be loved right along with the rest of them! The writing is fantastic. Characters you can fall in love with. A sexy, emotional storyline that gives you the perfect amount of reading ups and downs!

Ok first off this is a m/m romance so please make sure you realize that , it us an awesome story about how the limelight can make a person doubt what they feel is real or what they really should be feeling.

Ok so a Scotsman and an Irishman walk into a bar , no seriously, this book had my heart hurting for both Liam and Lachlan,  because they hurt in the book.

Liam is a Rugby player well into his thirties and knows he doesn't have much left , but it us also his personal life that he is worried about

Lachlan knows better than to take a chance on a man who doesn't know if he is a gay man or not but Liam draws him in and he takes a chance .

You have got to read this book , I would suggest reading the previous books first just to get an idea of the series ,

While M/M romance is typically not my genre, this series has been amazing so far so I had to read it. This book is as awesome as the rest of the series. Love is love, and Liam's story had to be told. Liam is struggling with his sexuality, and trying to keep his life private. When he gets traded to a new team in a new country, he thinks it might be what he needs. Meeting Lachlan is a surprise he doesn't see coming.
This book is amazing, and so well written. I can't wait to read more from this author.

This was such a great book. The struggle that Liam and Lachlain go through will tug at your heart strings. There is soo much emotion in this book and I could not put it down.

Even if you do not generally read M/M romance you will enjoy this book. I do not generally read M/M romance unless it's part of a series I'm invested in or from an author I love and this book fit both criteria. It was so well crafted it and so well written I really enjoyed it and could put myself in their shoes even without any real life experiences even close to theirs.

Update:
Full review on https://kimsreadingnook.wordpress.com...

I was completely and utterly blown away by this book. First, let me just say: I have yet to read the first three books in Rebecca Norinne’s “Dublin Rugby” series * GASP * Shocking, yes, I know. I just jumped right into “Break Down,” not giving a crap about any back story. The author promised that it could be read as a stand alone, and by god, she’s right. Second, let me add: I freakin’ loved it.

“Break Down” is an M/M tale. And, if you’ve been following this blog, y’all know I ain’t much of an M/M reader or seeker. However, soon as I read the blurb, it seemed cool. And, hot at the same time. Ironic much? Yes, ‘coz I did not know how hot it would get. I blushed at several points during the read. Through it all, though, it was a personal eye-opening ride. Whatever wrongful/misplaced angst I had about gay relationships were destroyed annihilated by “Break Down.” There wasn’t anything trite in it. It just sounded true. It got me hoping that real-life would someday be like this.

----------------

My first book by Rebecca Norinne! Sooo glad I took a chance when I applied for an ARC with Inkslinger. Watch this space for the complete review.

In all honesty I didn’t know if I was going to read this book. I had read all of the Dublin Rugby series so far. In fact Trying Sophie was one of my favorite books that I read in 2017. But I just wasn’t sure if I wanted to read a M/M romance. But I felt like the series wouldn’t be complete if I didn’t read it. So when I was offered an ARC for an honest review I decided to give it a go. And by the end of the book I was glad I did. I really enjoyed Liam’s story. It’s another love story but he has to deal with society’s views on homosexuality which is made even worse since he’s an athlete. Rebecca Norinne did an excellent job showing his confusion and emotions in trying to deal with his revelation. I’d definitely recommend this book. Just be prepared for very descriptive scenes but it has a lot of heart and a lot of love!

*4.5* I absolutely fell in love with Liam and Lachlan. They're both strong, alpha men that have great careers. Liam can't figure out why he isn't ever satisfied with his relationships. I mean he knows but he won't admit it until one night. One night that is a disaster.

Fast Forward to a new town and in just one instant everything changes for him. I could feel every emotion that he was going through and feel his difficulty in trying to do what he thought was right.

Lachlan NEVER wants to go through what he's been through before but when he gets a look at Liam and feels the electricity he makes a decision to try again.

When these two are together behind closed doors everything is great, they start falling in love but what happens when Lachlan wants more? What decision will be harder for Liam? Take a chance and maybe lose everything he's ever worked for or not take the chance and lose the man he's fallen in love with?

I need to go back and read the beginning of this series!

4.5

This was not only a beautiful love story but a journey of hope, struggle and the long road to self acceptance.  This is book 4 in the Dublin Rugby series and can be read as standalone.

After giving into temptation, of the manlovin’ variety 😊, rugby player Liam Donnelly ends up being betrayed and blackmailed.  All he can do is watch helplessly as his life starts falling apart. In the aftermath, Liam is uncertain of his future and when given the chance to play in Edinburgh he jumps at the opportunity.  He vows to keep his head down and focus on what’s most important to him…rugby. That means hiding part of who he is. But that was BEFORE he meets the charming and hot chef Lachlan MacLeod!

Lachlan is an amazing character.  He’s kind, supportive and incredibly patient with Liam.  Lachlan understands that Liam is scared and that it’ll take time for him to reconcile who he is and who he wants to be.  To further complicate things Liam is under a lot of scrutiny and pressure from both his team and public opinion. But Lachlan is determined and in a way serves as Liam's rock.

These two were made for each other and the attraction was palpable.  The story progresses smoothly and I felt for both of them. Liam’s struggle to accept who he is and come to terms with his love for Lachlan was moving.  But hands down Lachlan, in my opinion, carried the story.  I found Liam's character could be overly abrasive at times which bugged me a bit. That's the only reason I didn't give full stars.  But it all worked out and they ended up being a perfect match.

Overall, this was a fabulous story about two complex characters coming to terms with their feelings and being brave enough to grab onto their HEA even in the face of both internal and external adversity.

I received an eARC from the publisher via Inkslinger PR in exchange for my unbiased and voluntary review.

Liam always wondered what being with another man would be like. One night he took a chance and got blackmailed for it. His rugby career stalled because of an injury he's not sure what's next for him. A chance to play for another team in another country seems to be the answer to his problem. A start over and a way to leave his blackmailer behind.

Lachlan, chef and owner of a very in demand restaurant, is out and proud of his life. The night Liam walks in and sets down at his bar, his life changes forever.

They both know right away that each wants the other. But Liam won't admit he might be bi and Lachlan has vowed to never get involved with a closeted man again. Can they make it work?

This story is smoking hot, these guys are perfect together. Chemistry between the characters is excellent. The good writing make this a must read. There are 3 prior books in the series but this can be read as a standalone.

Through three previous books Ms. Norinne has pulled readers into the exotic world of rugby, made us sweat and bleed alongside these muscular and manly athletes in stories that have thoroughly entertained me. With this fourth installment readers get a new view as the action’s moved to Edinburgh with a new set of teammates for the aging Liam Donnelly to get to know. It’s a difficult time for the normally jovial player though as he’s not only dealing with the end of his career on the horizon, but is also struggling with his sexuality after an encounter that he’s long dreamed of leaves him full of self-doubts and fearful of discovery. Moving to Edinburgh gives him the chance to start fresh, but also puts temptation right in front of him in the form of a cocky and sexy chef carrying his own weighty baggage. What starts out as friendship soon becomes more as long talks lead to clandestine kisses that soon involves both of their hearts. But when Liam’s fears over coming out make Lachlan feel like a dirty little secret, their journey to HEA hits some very bumpy roadblocks that made my heart ache and left their happy ending in doubt.

Liam Donnelly’s become a rugby star in Dublin, but injuries and age has left his future in doubt. Going where the money is gives him a fresh start but also leads to lots of angst as he finally comes to terms with who and what he is after years of denying what his heart and mind truly desire. Liam’s always been seen as a manwhore flitting from one one-night stand to another but it’s his attraction to men that’s always tempted him and once he meets the chef at the restaurant down the street he’s very tempted. Being with Lachlan is both invigorating and terrifying as being with him means getting to experience things he’s long dreamed of but also means addressing long-buried feelings that cause a lot of emotional upheaval to their combustible relationship. Liam’s immensely appealing with his realistic fears and self-doubts that endeared him to me. His struggles had me wanting to hug him and his raw emotions with wanting to do right by Lachlan but making mistakes along the way had me rooting for him endlessly. Readers get moments of deep insight from him as the struggle to come out is vividly depicted and keeps readers invested wholeheartedly in his and Lachlan’s rocky romance.

Lachlan MacLeod‘s past is one of heroin addiction and numerous nameless sexual encounters. Six years have passed since then and his life is finally on track as an award-winning chef who’s proudly out of the closet. Years of hiding who he was, years of feeling used and unimportant, have him unwilling to go back in the closet though despite his intense attraction to Liam. What starts out as a friendship where he’s a supportive sounding board to the struggling man soon has him putting his heart and soul on the line in hopes that Liam will finally claim him to the world. Through all their emotional ups and downs Lachlan remained a supportive friend and mentor. Through their erotically-charged encounters to frustrating talks I applauded him for staying true to himself. He easily could’ve fallen back on bad habits to cope but he didn’t. His past is clearly something he’s not proud of but he doesn’t sugarcoat it and learned from it to make sure he never lets himself be devalued again.

This was an angsty romance teeming with sensuality as Liam and Lachlan undertook a long dance to finally get between the sheets. An emotional tug of war and lots of foreplay kept me on edge, waiting for them to finally give in to temptation in encounters that were well worth the wait. They’re a dynamic duo with a connection that crackles. There’s a lot of talk and compassion in their relationship, with each step forward a dramatic one, and I cheered them on every step of the way. The issue of coming out is realistically depicted here, with Liam’s concerns understandable and his fears palpable considering a past encounter. I might be frustrated by how long it took Liam to work through his issues, but when he finally did he did so in subtle and bold ways that had me cheering and liking him all the more. Lachlan too is a delightful character who wore his heart on his sleeve. He was a good friend and a caring lover and I loved the two of them as a couple. Surrounding this appealing main couple were a cast of new teammates who seemed like furniture early on but finally became more real as the story progressed. They became more well-rounded with backgrounds just hinted at that have me wanting to know more. Liam’s old teammates and friends also make appearances to show their unwavering support while setting up the next story in this series for the miserable newlywed Aidan and his unrequited love Tanya. On a whole this is a decadently delightful m/m read full of heart and soul with just enough action on the field for fans of sports-fueled romances to celebrate while providing plenty of bedroom action for lovers of romance to wrap themselves up in!

Amici? Amici con benefici? Amanti? È tutto da esplorare. Devono capire cosa vogliono e cosa sono disposti a concedere l’uno all’altro.

Quindi segnatevelo: da-leggere (subito) Break Down, Rebecca Norinne!

Amazing! Rebecca Norinne did it again, crafting a masterpiece with Liam and Lachlan's story in "Break Down", her new installment in the Dublin Rugby series.
A wonderful tangle of need, feelings, passion, sensuality but also vulnerability, and it's impossible not falling in love with the two protagonists.
This is also a challenge won by this author, who has focused the spotlight on what still remains a taboo: being gay in the world of sport and especially in one of the most "manly" sports, such as rugby.
We already met Liam in the previous books of the series, he was one of the roommates and player in the same team of Declan, the leader of the Dublin Rugby.
Like most of Dublin Rugby players, the lacking of women have never been a problem in Liam's life, quite the opposite... In truth this has always been his way to cover his struggles with himself, his attempt to deny and keep under control the deep attraction he feels for men too.
When he finally give in, finding the courage to let go, he chooses the wrong guy, he should never give his trust, a clusterfuck.
Lachlan is a famous chef from Edinburgh, the new city where Liam decided to move. Lachlan left behind a turbulent past, finding his balance, and he's proud of everything he has achieved and happy to live openly his homosexuality.
And then Liam arrives in his life ... perhaps at the wrong time.
The sparks fly as soon as they meet, a strong attraction, which is not only physical. They start flirting as
it's the most natural thing in the world and I really loved them for that. Between them there are a thousand uncertainties and questions about what they want from each other. Friends? Friends with benefits? Lovers? Everything has to be explored.
They must understand what they want and what they are willing to give each other.
Liam is afraid. He's worried about losing his friends, losing his place in the team and he's ashamed of what he feels. For Liam is
a long way to go and he doesn't know if he can trust Lachlan.
Lachlan, on the other hand, realizes Liam may never give him what he needs, but he can't help himself and resist the force that seems to push him towards Liam.
Little by little he manages to break down Liam's walls, he gives him all the time he needs, allowing him to be free to explore, to realize his fantasies and just "feel".
Their passion and "physicality" as a couple, and the slowly discovery of Liam needs has created a real explosive mixture, making their intimate moments full of sensuality. The chemistry between Lachlan and Liam is awesome, inside and outside the sheets, full of understanding and complicity. Sometimes they
don't need words to understand what goes on the other's head, but this is also one of their biggest problems.
In fact, things between them are perfect when they are alone, but Liam doesn't find the strength to feel free and shows his feelings for Lachlan in public.
And it's a sharp knife Liam involuntarily sinks into Lachlan's heart every time.
There are ups and downs, fights in their path, they suffer, but they suffer even more to stay away. Everything they live is so intense, revealing all their vulnerabilities.
What can I say more? I loved them, they break through my heart and mind.
I love to think about them, I like to read the moments that struck me the most and it was difficult for me to get away from Liam and Lachlan, when I reached the end of the book. I can only hope to see them in the future in other novels (just saying ...)
"Break Down" can also be read as a standalone, I say this especially for those who love to read only M/M books: you don't need to read the previous books of the series, to enjoy this novel.
For those, who are in love, like me, with this series, I must speak also about Declan.
In each new installment of the Dublin Rugby, we see new faces of this wonderful man, new pieces of him: in "Trying Sophie" he was the man no woman could say no, yielding to his charm, in "Ruck Me" he was Aoife's scary big brother, a bossy one, who played a key role in the life of his sister, here with Liam he's just awesome: a TRUE friend.
Declan is the light in a tough moment for Liam, with his way so easy and natural of seeing things, with his deep loyalty to him and unconditional support. I loved him.
So mark this: must-read (now) Break Down by Rebecca Norinne! Trust me!

ARC received for an honest review

An Irishman and a Scotsman meet in a restaurant.

No, there is no punchline, I just want to be sitting between them listening to them talk. Sigh, those accents .

From the minute we meet him, you can't help but fall for the adorable Liam Donnelly. He is unsure of so many things in his life. Changes in his career, he is unsure of himself - who he is, what he wants. He is stumbling his way through life at the moment.

Enter Lachlan and oh my! This is the start of Liam's bisexual awakening, and we are taken on his journey of attraction, lust, confusion and hopefully, love.

It is not all easy for Lachlan either. He has his own crosses to bear when it comes to Liam, and I for one was glad that he does not let himself become a doormat. He sticks up for what he wants ,no matter what.

Break Down is a beautiful, heartwarming story, and definitely my favourite in this series so far.

Can't wait to see what Ms Norinne brings us next.

OMG! Color me impressed! Break Down is book four in the Dublin Rugby Series. It can be read as a stand-alone just fine as this was my first book of the series and my first time reading Rebecca Norinne, and it won't be the last at either. Oh and this cover? NIce and it fits the other covers really pulling you to go back and read them too. I want to read the first three, though they are M/F and not LGBTQ. It's not often I put any book on my to read again list since I have so many unread books in my TBR pile but make that a sports romance to boot and Yeah, MS. Norinne you managed it. I will definitely be reading this again and watching for it on Audio.
So now that I can quit gushing about how good this is let me tell you a little (just a little) about the story.
Liam is bisexual but feeling more and more desires to explore his hidden side. ( evidently, he does in one of the other books as this one begins with him fighting a bit of a problem after exploring that side. He has been injured the previous season and the new contract isn't the best. His agent has him a better deal in Edinburgh where they are having some issue with management and the team being cohesive and with him away from his other problem they hope it goes away. He shows up in Edinburgh with a bad taste in his mouth and not trusting anyone. He just wants to get the last couple years in and retire, then maybe he will act on his baser needs. Until he goes to a restaurant near his house and meets the sexy owner/Chef.

lachlan has had a past of his own and now in his forties, he wants to find a man to settle down with. The sexy Rugby player with mixed signals that frequents his restaurant cant fill that needs. He has made a pact with himself that he would never go back in the closet with anyone and him out and proud he couldn't even hang as a friend since people would consider Liam queer by association.

This story is sooo good. Yeah, I know I already said it but man oh man! The sexual tension builds the moment these two meet! You will need a fan and fire extinguisher on the standby. I liked Liam a lot. The angst was there and my heart went out to him. Many times I wanted to box his sexy ears!
Now Lachlan? Hands off!!! He is MINE!! I'll gladly become a gay man for him. Both of these men have very different pasts. Both were bad boys in a way, Lachlan when he was younger and Liam with his sports star status and his screw around attitude. Yet I still related to Liam. The plot is good, the romance is great, the sports is easy to understand and the sex is sensual passionate and HAWT!!!

I highly recommend this book to anyone that likes a sexy MM romance, Bisexual men, out for you, friends to lovers, sexy chefs hot Rugby players and a romance to die for with smkoin hot mansex.
