When Wendy returned from Neverland, moving out of the nursery was only the beginning. Told it’s time to “grow up”, she’s forced into volunteer work with her mother, where she must learn the role of a proper lady by helping those less fortunate in the Stephney Causeway Orphanage.
Wendy never expected to find kindred souls in the tattered waifs. One of the boys, Thomas, reveals that the orphans are beaten into a thieving ring, resulting in more than one cold corpse no one else would miss. Wendy entrusts him with the knowledge that Neverland is real, and they devise a plan to save the misused orphans.
When Wendy’s parents start pressuring her into marriage, Wendy’s carefully constructed life begins to unravel. Cracks appear in Neverland, and the chance to return dwindles. Wendy must figure out just how to get the rest of the boys to Neverland before it disappears forever.
KT Hanna has a love for words so extreme, a single word can spark entire worlds.
Born in Australia, she met her husband in a computer game, moved to the U.S.A. and went into culture shock. Bonus? Not as many creatures specifically out to kill you.
When she’s not writing, she freelance edits for Chimera Editing, and chases her daughter, husband, corgi, and cat. No, she doesn’t sleep. She is entirely powered by the number 2, caffeine, and beef jerky.
Wow. I just finished this one and my heart is still pounding in my chest.
Peter Pan is one of my all time favorite fairy tales and Hanna does an amazing job of applying a new take on it. A very dark take.
This story is so incredibly immersive. The details that she uses put me right into the story. Wendy is such an intriguing main character and you really become invested in her internal struggles throughout the book.
I really hope she takes another fairy tale and puts her spin on it.
I have read and enjoyed the author’s Somnia series and I knew this was a deviation from that style so I wasn’t sure what to expect. That being said, I am so impressed. I absolutely enjoyed this book and would recommend it to any new adult/adult who likes intrigue and suspense.
This is a dark twisted aftermath of the Peter Pan/Neverland world. Wendy has to grow up and has seen the darker side of the world and how orphanages and people without love and families exist. So she reaches out to Peter for a solution to whisk those hurting off to a better world. In the end she has to ask for the same for herself even though she may be getting too old. This book is dark and a quick read with a surprising but not too surprising ending. Definitely worth a read.
A different telling of Peter Pan through the eyes of Wendy. Throughout the book the tension slowly builds. I had suspicions. I was right. It's a well written story. It wasn't fun. Sometimes scary is satisfying though.
