I just wanted to get everyone's attention by putting this on my 'to read' list...was searching books by Mary Roach--- who knew she was so diversified??
The other day I got hold of a copy of The Ultimate Guide to Fellatio:How to Go Down on a Man and Give Him Mind-Blowing Pleasure by Violet Blue (Cleis Press, originally 2002, second edition 2010). My first thought was, do we really need almost 250 pages to explain this? Men are like automatic cum dispensers, right? Insert beer, yank the handle a few times (with your mouth) and get your prize...right?
Then I read Violet Blue's introduction. Men, it seems, have been given short shrift by sex writers up until now. When guys write for other guys about bjs, they do it with a homophobic-like distaste, as if typing with one hand while covering their eyes with the other. Men's anatomy is much more complicated than we realize on an average day. There's a wealth of knowledge women have gained by listening to gay men.
So, scanning over this hefty guidebook with fresh eyes, I found much to be admired. It's sex-positive. It doesn't discriminate against either sex or cater exclusively to hetero couples. It's comprehensive, even covering how genital piercings can affect oral sex. The drawings are cute. (I like the drawings with the piercings especially.) Best of all, it's spiced up with little fictional interludes by erotica author Alison Tyler. My favorite is "High Tea."
There's a reason why over 100,000 copies of this book have already been sold: this book is really helpful and informative. PLUS, the brunette couple on the front cover is cute.
Like the cunnilingus guide, I really appreciate the author's enthusiasm for her subject. I also enjoyed her rant on the treatment of male sexuality, which is frequently oversimplified. Each chapter ends with an erotica ficlet by Alison Tyler.
Very well written and informative. There's really nothing new here for those who are not beginners, but it is beneficial to those who don't have much experience with the art of pleasing their men in this way.
It is a well written book and has a lot of good information on the chosen subject, however I am a couple chapters away from the end and finding it hard to finish, because it literally just repeats itself.
So, I just finished the Foreward (I read multiple books in chunks and right now this is the bottom of the pile). This book promises a great deal of information that the author feels is missing from ther guides on this subject. And, hello, I want her job. Sex Educator/Sales Associate. Heck just he training would be worth it. Titilating hints about anal play, strap ons, hetero and gay sex and role playing abound. Thus far the author seems at ease with the subject and quite intelligent. Nice writing style.
Chapter One is called "More Than a Mouthful". So later in the week I suppose I'll find out just how much more.
So I finally got back to it the other night, and let me just say that high tea will never look the same to me again. Wow!
A very thorough, educational, and entertaining 250 pages. Blue's writing style is very down to earth and interjected with a witty sense of humor that makes the subject matter more palatable (pun intended). There's even a chapter titled "For Him", a good ice-breaker for sharing questions and concerns with your partner.
Blue is obviously very serious about safer-sex practices; she gently but repeatedly reminds us that we should be, too.
Definitely not your usual boring and clinical sex guide. Just when you thought you knew everything about the subject, she surprises you. For that reason, I look forward to sinking my teeth into her sister-guide on cunnilingus.
Очень поверхностно. Т.е.
Pretty superficial. That is, it is another analog of journal articles collected under one cover. Well, or a series of podcasts/videos from YouTube. The book can successfully replace glossy magazines and blogs/podcasts/videos on this topic, but for something more it is worth looking at more serious literature.
Soooo much detail, and so many useful guidelines, tips, and ideas! Got way more out of this than I was expecting to.
While it makes nods to queer sex by addressing fellatio on a strap-on, it definitely shows its age by using fairly gender-binaric (can that be an adjective?) language. Other than that, and wishing it would get a republishing so the resources in the back can be updated (at least one of the websites it suggests is now defunct), I thoroughly enjoyed this.
