The Heidelberg Conundrum

Rate this book
“The Heidelberg Conundrum was a terrifically trippy read. Keith Girard has put together a wild story with a great cast of characters. A wild time-tripping ride. Now that I’ve read the book, I can’t wait to see the movie.” -- Micky Dolenz, actor, musician (The Monkees) and avid science fiction fan.The Heidelberg Conundrum is an enthralling story of self-discovery, danger and ultimately a trip through time to a far darker period in history. It involves mystery, intrigue, deceit and the intertwining of two distant worlds across space and time. Think "Raiders of the Lost Ark" meets "The DaVinci Code" with a science fiction twist.

Call the continuity police!

I HATE writing had reviews. In fact, most times I will decide to leave no review rather than a bad review. I'm a word hacker myself and I respect so much the time and effort that is required to bring these babies to the table. But I struggled so much! I forgave so much! Finally, at the 75% mark I had to throw in the towel before my head melted.
The dialog is stilted and not properly thought through. The continuity is cringingly(!) terrible at times. For instance, when Michael returns from Aspen...he's home for 10 minutes and Ellen takes him on a tour of the science building. In their conversations, Ellen says to Michael: "You've been distant and different since you've returned from Aspen"... But he just gotten home!
Anyway, God bless you, Keith, for fighting the good fight. Maybe a better editor?

I didn't try to read too much into this book. I pretty much took it at face-value as an action-adventure, sci-fi thriller. On that level is scores. There's not a lot of philosophical discourse or naval gazing. It's pretty tightly written. If you're looking for a good book that will hold your interest from start to finish, this is it. A solid casual read.
