Fantastic Action,Intrigue and Relationships Between Top Class Operatives
Such a wonderful story, showing the feelings and relationships between three people who throw themselves into hell for the benefit of the American people! A well written tale that helps you understand why such people do what they do, how they train and think. In Black Force all were solo operators, now King and Slater have been together since it's disbanding, and find themselves involved in a problem that will bring the USA to its knees!! Can they put some of the past behind them and work with a government handler? Or has too much happened they can't forget? The answer lies within, with exciting action, quickness of operations, and the feelings of everyone involved! A 5 STAR story I could Not put down until the end!
First time with this author. This is book one of a series combining characters from two other series by this author.
this book started out great. couple of former black ops type guys team up to do a number on crime in New York. Characters seemed great, action was for me right on. story was chugging right along just fine. then the govt. steps back in and our intrepid heroes start working for uncle sam again. Now i understand it is fiction and i understand it is heroic shit going down but come on. all these two guys were missing by the end was the capes and decoder rings. it got to be a little too much at times. the story itself was acceptable, for all we know china just might be trying to take over the world by having the US economy fail. plausible, absolutely. but taking on and beating the types of guys and quantities of guys they do in this book, not so much.
if you are into quality kills per minute you will love this one because if it moves it dies.
i am going to try book one of each of the other series and see how these two guys come about. Book two of this series is pretty far down the pile right now.
Jason King and Will Slater were operatives of Black Force, a secret division of the U.S. Government. They were warriors enhanced with super-human reflexes. Their handler was presumed dead. They had been separated for some time but were now back together. Compliments of the Macao Triad, they had more money than they knew what to do with. They owned two penthouse suites on the Upper East Side. Their first endeavor was to hijack a shipment of H&K417 rifles from the Italian Mob. With no contacts and no resources, they were on their own. Slater didn’t like it but King was more resilient. They had a job to do. The destabilization of the U.S. economy is their ultimate target. Removal of the first line of defense is their priority. I am impressed with the Violetta character, she is one interesting and capable woman. The story is fairly complex and compelling. I like the two main characters, they are pretty badass.
It's an okay read if you don't mind super-human characters and loads of unrealistic fights of 1 vs 50... I'd enjoy it more if the team fought together. This felt like 3 different action scenes glued together, each character on their own. I almost put the book down after the mention of clothes underneath the wetsuit. Maybe the writer should have talked to any diver before writing that because I can tell you straight away that 1. Wetsuits are like a second skin. No, you won't fit the jeans and regular clothes underneath. And 2. Even if you managed somehow and be dumb enough to do so, the clothes would be soaking wet because you know, it's in the name - WETsuit. A layer od water between skin and suit is what keeps you warm... Sure, there are suits that allow clothes underneath but they're definitely not wetsuits. Maybe I'm too harsh but a detail like that really bothered me as a pro scuba diver. There's too many unnecessary "he said/she said" at some scenes. I don't get it because some chapters had a good dialogue and other were full of these lines... Rant over. I still give it 4 stars because the general flow and plot and a lot of action are good. Also characters are likebale and complex. I'm already reading the 2nd book.
I got an email from the author that the book was live online and it was the fastest I've laid down money on buying a book. The thing is that he has created two memorable characters in Jason King and Will Slater and both of them working together is a must for fan of any of these two.
The best part about Matt Rogers' writing is that there is plenty of upclose action and its consequences, but there are heartwarming and emotional angles in every book too. There is a price to be paid for every action and the book portrays characters in such a light. The protagonists might have superhuman reflexes, but even they can't keep throwing punches all day. They pay the price for their abilities and that shows so well in the books.
Really liked this one and I can't wait to see what Matt Rogers does next. Easily one of my favorite authors this year.
Odd beginnings but hits the ground running in short order.
I wasn't sure I'd like this book at first but after getting 20 or 30 pages in, I was hooked. HARD! The book certainly deserves FIVE stars but I felt compelled to make known some discrepancies with regards to weaponry and tactics. Nothing major or glaring but enough and frequent enough to be a distraction for myself because I KNOW weapons and tactics. NOT to the insane levels as portrayed in this novel (could ANYBODY have the crazy skill sets as portrayed in this book? Doubtful.) but to someone who has more than just a passing familiarity with them, it is like a Lighthouse. In the middle of a desert. You just cannot unsee such things. All that aside this was a very engaging book. Once the hooks are set you need to hold on for a fun ride. Keep 'em coming, Pardner.
This was a good book, fast-paced full of action. I enjoyed the protagonist all of them. The only thing that threw me out of the book was, if these gentlemen are extraordinary if not superman why are they tripping over their feet falling over branches, and not getting off shots in time. Never would happen to Mitch Rapp. The other thing is why would the author throw away A perfectly excellent character, so much promise, not going to be for filled. Character could’ve been a plot device in future books as well as a character balancing the team dynamic. Even though the ending of the book was disappointing to me I will give the next one a try, after all I did read it four out of five
I picked this up on Audible for free, with comments that it was like a Matthew Rielly book. I think that's a bit too far, but for an action thriller it was ok.
It's a tail of two (well really three) elite operatives that are brought back to stop a major plot against the US that will result in a massacre at a parade in San Fran. Lots of action and it kept me entertained. The author maybe spent a bit to much time trying to convince us about the super human capabilities of Kin and Slater, but otherwise it was a good but not great read. I'm going to read the second in the series and use it to determine if I keep reading them or not.

How lucky can you get??? I love the Matt Rogers' series whether it was "Will Slater" or "Jason King". King was my first and I thought I couldn't find anyone to take his place but then I met Will. Now Matt has given me both in an action-packed book with twists and turns on every page. Two minds that are so coordinated makes for excitement whatever they do. He's really hit one out of the park with this book. I received this book from the author but anything written here is my own thoughts. I want other readers to know how good a book is as I rely on their reviews to pick what I read.
The whole story reads more like a video game than a novel about espionage and black ops. Villains come and go but we don't know much about them and why they do what they do. Not a huge amount of mystery of suspense or drama.
Fortunately there's not a lot of self grief or whining when it comes to killing the bad guys. And no kind hearted gf that stops the guys from doing their mission or giving them hell at home for their killings.
Would be interesting to get more mystery and into the heads of the villains. Right now all the characters are one dimensional.
If you are looking for action filled novels, this is the start of a series you can't miss. Jason King and Will Slater decide to team up for good and the fireworks begin. For those of you who are devotees of the Black Force books, you will enjoy characters from the past such as Ruby Nazarian and Shien who show up and a new one who fills the handler role, Violetta LaFleur. I definitely recommend this book and look forward to more in this series.
This was an interesting story, but there were many story lines that didn’t make good sense. The most troubling was after they had met the Four Star General before everything kicked off. Knowing what they had planned to do if he was paid off why would he not get word to the opposing force so they would be awake and waiting. Not just hold up the rapid response force? Just a point that bothered me.
An MR. Modern Political/Black Ops/Trained Team (W) (AK&ST) (TK&SSB-1)
MR. has penned a modern day political/Black ops/Trained Team which had been out out in the cold. The two agent stumble across a smuggling job which leads to an attack of the Stock Market by the Chinese criminals with backing from a few in the higher government. The team of two team up with a third and a government representative to open doors. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
A fast-paced book with lots of twists and turns, well written and thoroughly enjoyable, I liked the book as it was well written and gave good details about what was happening and how the team fought against the odds and were a truly great team. The story was well edited and ran smoothly. If you want a great book to read and to get into? this is the book for you. Lots of twists and turns. Recommend to anyone who wants a well-structured story.
I enjoyed the increasing momentum of the book as I progressed through each chapter. It felt real, very descriptive and full of action. It is always nice to see good win out, even though there was a price to pay. I’m glad to see the character development especially as race was never made an issue of in the book. The characters were strong and proud, regardless of race. Nice read!
This was my first time trying this author and thought this was a fairly good read. It is definitely fiction as the story lines are ok but the protagonists abilities are pretty far out there. Some of the writing was kind of "clunky" as I found myself going back a few times to reread some lines to get them. This does not often happen to me. Otherwise, for a non-thought provoking, fast paced, action read, this book was good.
You have to be a fan of nonstop action, and enjoy movies like the John Wick series, but boy does this author rock! After a year. Of frustration and lockdowns this series let’s you vicariously enjoy a story of justice that actually works. Evil is evil, but some societies think we should just ignore it. Slater and King simply do what many people wish someone would do. The book is not “politically correct.” It’s “simple justice” without social constraint.
How to evaluate or comment on a story that you kind of KNOW exists but don't want to think about? Can't teally. The story is sad on many fronts, especially that people work so hard to kill each other. The characters are real enough and its a gripping story in kind of a SUPERMAN way, where people are more than average and able to fight back where most of us cannot.
Jason and Will together. What could be better? Jason, Will AND Ruby! Nothing can stand in their way when the U.S. is threatened with destruction. Powerful, tense, emotional and fast-paced. Well worth your investment of time and money. I highly recommend the entire series that Matt Rogers has created.
Jason King was the first series I've read of Matt Rogers. Then came Will, saving Jason. And it just kept getting better. "Weapons" was absolutely fantastic. Loved every minute and I had a hard time putting it down. The action never stops. Anxious for the next Jason & Will.
Separately, forces to be reckoned with, togeather virtually unstopable. Add in Ruby and you know the bad guys are in for a world of hurt. Brought togeather to stop a plot to bring the United States to it;s knees it appears they may have met their match. Can this unholy trio stop the plot? If you are like me you won't stop until you reach the disturbing conclusion
King by himself, awesome. Slater by himself, awesome. King and Slater together, unreal. This was the most fun I have had since Jon Mills' Fight Game. Bullets, blood, and beatdowns. Is there really anything else? Oh there is, Ruby, Chinese masterminds, sicarios, insane soldiers...you get the picture. Read this book.
This King and Slater book doesn't disappoint and some romance was welcomed. The story went a different direction and I pulled an all-time nighter to finish it. I like this whole series of these vigilantes seeking justices. The author knows his characters well and I'd highly recommend the international politics and p!ot.
Great start for the duo of King and Slater as a full time team. I look forward to seeing how you take this forward. Hate to lose one of the characters in poor Will’s life, you aren’t even leaving him a cat to be friends with - except King of course ;~} Great page turner, kept me Kindle in hand from start to finish.
Storyline was great. Believing there are characters out there today who can do the impossible makes the story almost believable. But our author Kees you on the edge of your seat with a story that just gives and gives and gives entertainment and that’s why we read. Enjoy.
King and Slater get pulled into fighting a rogue band of the Chinese government who are obsessed with taking control as the power of the world. This is a slam bang action adventure from beginning to end. King and Slater are an army of two fighting fighting for justice in a world where that is often an outmoded concept.
Didn’t enjoy this story as much as I expected I would. Too much talk about the past without explaining exactly what happened in the past, too much emotions, not enough real action. But there were sections and paragraphs and pages that were enjoyable, but as a whole a was a little disappointed.
Having had cameo appearances together in each of there own series, King and Slater join forces in a new series. Setting up as vigilantes, they soon end up deep in a conspiracy, that brings the government calling. One was hard to deal with, but both together means trouble for whoever stands in there way!!
I had never heard of this author before purchasing this book. The summary hooked me and man am I glad I bought this book! I couldn’t stop reading it. I found myself engrossed ever chance I got. Would recommend and have already purchased the next book in the series.
