Amazing book. Didn’t know what I would get out of it when I won it from a free giveaway but I’m glad I read it. This book is part research- part inspirational drivel for people of all generations, nationalities, & backgrounds who want to create positive impact in their communities. If anything, this book is a great prerequisite for budding entrepreneurs on gaining the mindset and finding their “Why” purpose, and I personally recommend reading this book before reading a “How” book like The Lean Startup.


My only gripe was the length of the book. This book is divided into three parts, and the second part, which goes into the several types of social impactors there are, I found increasingly tedious to read. But I think the last part of the book, and the beautiful “Forthword” section did a great job of illustrating what our future can look like if we take (or don’t take) action and the questions we need to be asking ourselves in order to do our part, as innovators, designers, investors, and entrepreneurs to shape our future for the best

Impact Imperative offers key insight and and a positive message for humanity's future, that is all-encompassing and boldly transformative. It presents a method of understanding and being encouraged by a movement of progressive innovators and entrepreneurs working towards making positive impact on our world through sciences such as biotech and engineering and social or political movements. It also promotes collaboration from educating the greater status quo in investing in conscious efforts which will also be essential in generating the right momentum for positive change. The text also highlights problems with the increasing inequality, thorough data analyses across cultures of trends that need redirecting, and also presents interesting alternative trajectories for a future in 2030 which has the potential to be achieved.
I believe this text could have been shorter, which dissuaded some of my enjoyment of it. It's best just to get to the point. Overall, not a bad read.

Impact Imperative: Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Investing to Transform the Future is an authoritative, text thoughtfully written by Dr. Ryan to address concerns, opportunities and challenges the world faces in this decade. It will take more than being mindful and want change. Dr. Ryan illustrates that responsibility involves commitment to more than an ideal but respect for building community that will positively impact the way one lives. Well researched with chapter notes, highlighted points, chapter summaries, and index. Most meaningful for me was the chapter on “Intending Good. Doing Harm. “ #GoodreadsGiveaway.

Incredibly inspiring!
Impact Imperative is about the present and future of impact innovation, investment, and entrepreneurship and about the challenges humanity is facing in the next decade - climate change, deeper socioeconomic disparities between classes, and political radicalization among others. Dr. Ryan introduces fascinating impact innovators, shares advice on how to do good and avoid doing harm, and describes 4 distinct scenarios for the future, each defined by the scale of impact innovation done in the next decade.

So useful to have all these perspectives in one place. The range and depth across all parts of the ecosystem and plenty of different kinds of entrepreneurs too. As we face the climate emergency, and have a world to-do list in the SDGs this book will be useful to the everyday practitioner working in grassroots as well as the student and researcher. Scale is essential for impact and investors can have a vital role in the acceleration necessary to help transform our common future. I am recommending to investors, funders and those who want to collaborate for impact.
