Joey Mancuso, Father O'Brian #1-5

Joey Mancuso Mysteries Vol 1-5

Rate this book

The first five volumes of the Joey Mancuso & Father O’Brian Mystery Series are now available at a killer bargain.

This rare crime mystery series has something for everyone—a tough guy, three awesome women, and a classic Golden Age gentleman-detective clergyman. The twist? The cop and the cleric are half-brothers who operate a PI firm out of their bar.

It’s a made-to-order for lovers of traditional mysteries, with the kinds of twists and scams and puzzles that warm a mystery fan’s heart like a shot of Jameson. Think Matt Scudder meets Father Brown. Also recommended for fans of Mickey Spillane’s Mike Hammer mystery series, and, of course, the Sherlock Holmes adventures.

A MURDER ON WALL STREET

When one of Joey and Father Dom’s best customers dies in an apparent suicide —a Wall Street guy celebrating a new client the night before-- they're just not feeling it. They know he wasn’t a guy who wanted to die; and they quickly find out he was someone a lot of people wanted dead.

A MURDER ON LONG ISLAND

Just in time for Christmas, a wealthy real estate developer named Harold Longworth is on trial for the murder of his wife in the bedroom of their Long Island mansion, and the Manhattan elite are glued to their seats. Things are looking pretty grim when his team asks Joey to investigate the case, but better when he discovers that Mrs. Longworth’s personal and professional lives were a sticky web of secrets and lies, populated by a rogues' gallery of jealous lovers and corporate conspirators.

THE MANHATTAN RED RIBBON KILLER

Joey is called in to help the Midtown South precinct solve a series of brutal murders targeting young professional women. Case #1 at first seems to be an eve of kinky sex gone wrong. But when second and third bodies turn up—this time with the sign of the cross carved into their breasts—New York’s finest think they have a serial killer on their hands.

THE CASE OF THE ANTIQUITIES DEALER

From the beginning, there’s just something funny about parents who didn’t report a missing student right away, and days later still want no police. Hold it here! This is their beloved daughter, last seen leaving for a date. Why wouldn’t they want as much firepower as they can get? Because they know too much, that’s why—and Owen Parr’s clever detective senses that. Joey’s first job’s to save the girl, but no way he’s going to stop there. The scrappy PI and ex-cop’s going to get answers if it kills him.

THE MURDER OF PAOLO MANCUSO

Joey Mancuso was just a kid when he watched a stranger walk into a Little Italy bar, shoot his mobster dad in the chest, and calmly walk back out, disappearing into the Manhattan din. The murder was never solved. And the old mob adage “an eye for an eye” went unfulfilled. But now, at death’s door, infamous mobster Tony the Hammer summons Joey and utters three mysterious words: “Wetherly Stevens, Barcelona.” Joey has no doubt he’s just been told how to find his father’s killer.

The Abduction of Patient Zero: Joey Mancuso, Father O’Brian Crime Mysteries Book 6
2020 FAPA President’s Book Awards Winner – Adult Fiction – Mystery/Suspense (Gold).
Happy to announce that this past December, 2018, I was honored to have won the Bronze Medal from Readers' Favorite during the Miami Book Fair. A "Murder on Wall Street" won for Mystery-Legal genre.
Owen was awarded the New Apple Literary Services award -Solo Medalist in Mystery, for his A Murder on Wall Street on February 14th, 2017. This is a REPEAt award, as Owen won the same award in 2016 for his Operation Raven - The Dead Have Secrets. Readers have compared Owen's novels to classics from Robert Ludlum and Michaels Connelly. One reader wrote: "If Ludlum and Connelly wrote a novel together, it would be an Owen Parr novel." Utilizing his experiences of over a quarter of a century working for Wall Street firms, he has crafted a series of political intrigue and crime novels, fusing fiction with facts. Born in Havana, Cuba, and later growing up in Miami. He enjoys reading fiction to transport himself to another world. And in his writing, he does that for his readers in a very successful way. His readers are fully wrapped in the plots and have fallen in love with his amazing characters.

Published author of articles in trade magazines. Hobby painter of acrylics on canvasses and middle of the road golfer, Owen spends his day still employed in the financial advice industry.

Married at the age of nineteen he pursued a career in electrical engineering until boredom set in. From there he went to own and operate his own multi-branch real estate firm and licensing school.

Since 1986 he has been employed in the financial advice industry. During this time he has written articles for the local paper, political ramblings for his blog and screenplays that he is now converting into fictional novels.
In 1959 my father and mother left everything behind in order to move to the United States. Miami Beach, to be more specific. It is interesting to note, before you say, “Owen Parr” a Cuban? That, my dad, also Owen Parr, was born in New York and his dad moved to Havana when my dad was eight years old.

Moving on, I grew up in Miami Beach, finished my elementary education at St. Joseph’s and attended high school at St. Patrick’s, both in Miami Beach and obviously Catholic schools. After high school, I began college seeking a career in Electrical Engineering. Mr. Parr, my dad, was a Civil engineer and had wanted me to study engineering. My two older brothers had declined that invitation, so I felt duty bound to comply with his wishes.

For six years I worked in the engineering department of our local utility, Florida Power and Light. Bored to death, I opened a side business during the construction boom in South Florida, circa 1970’s and sold floor coverings and appliances to builders for their newly constructed homes and condominiums. This was the time in Miami when the so-called “drug-wars” began, which lasted through the 1980’s.

I consolidated my efforts by selling my part-time business to my partner and left FP&L to go into real estate sales full-time. Four years later, I opened my own real estate company and grew it to five offices with over one hundred associates and a real estate school. In my thirties and in the middle of a personal boom, interest rates for mortgages climbed to 19%, with the Prime Rate at 21%, as Jimmy Carter left and Ronald Reagan became president. No one, I mean, no one bought homes at that point. So, I sold my real estate company for a minuscule fraction of what it had been worth and moved on.

In 1986, just prior to the stock market crash of 1987, I became a financial advisor with a major Wall Street firm. Proud to say, I swam upstream and thirty plus years later, I am still at it and enjoying it tremendously. Taking care of my clients is paramount. Today, I enjoy a partnership in my business with an associate, that will cate

Terrific reading

Good reading - the whole set. I like the way the author wraps things up in the end so you’re not wondering about the side characters. All the plots are a well-deserved 4 stars. Appreciate they are clean as well.

Fast-paced and thrilling…

As an ex-homicide investigator for NYPD, Joey Mancuso is used to dealing with criminals. He and his half-brother, Father Dominic O'Brien, own and operate Captain O'Brien's Irish Pub and Cigar Bar. They also have a detective agency where they investigate crimes and solve murders with the help of an amazing assortment of friends and employees. It helps that the love of Joey’s life, Marcy, is a Special Agent with the FBI and can offer occasional assistance with cases.

This is the first five books of an entertaining series. I like how the author made each book stand-alone and yet continued the storyline of the characters’ lives from one to the next. The supporting characters mesh well with Joey and Father Dom. My one criticism is the number of edit errors in the books, which sometimes detracted from the story as I tried to understand what the author was trying to say. That’s the only reason I gave four stars instead of five.

The books are action-packed with plenty of plot twists and turns along and many added elements of humor. The author always kept me guessing until the end. Even when I was sure I knew who did it there was always a surprise.

I finished the last of the five books in the set. Rather than reading the box set straight thru, I read a different book between each story.

I must say that I enjoyed each of the stories immensely and was impressed by how Joey, a Sherlock Holmes follower, his brother Father Dom, and the rest of the team were able to figure out who the guilty parties were with very little clues. Each of the cases involved the whole crew contributing to the resolution.

The way that Joey at the end where he revealed the guilty party were quite well done.

All of the main characters interfaced well together and as new characters to his team were introduced, they contributed as well. Each of the endings were well done.

I highly recommend this box set.

Joey Mancuso Mysteries Book 1-5 by Owen Parr.

The overall story line for all 5 books is terrific and each crime/mystery has lots of layers, twists and turns. The characters are likeable and the stories drew me in. The spelling, grammar and editing mistakes are numerous and all 5 books in this box set should have been spell checked and edited before publication. My suggestion would be to buy the box set to get the complete story of Joey Mancuso, ex detective and his half brother, the priest Father Dominic O'Brian and their private investigation business that they run from their Captain O'Brian's Irish Pub and Cigar Bar in Manhattan. A great read.

Great Story, Poor editing

I liked the storylines in these books enough to keep reading through horrible mistakes in editing. On one page a character was both a brother and a father. Too many words left out of sentences. In the last 2 books I started highlighting all the errors for my own entertainment. The errors were very distracting and almost made me just chuck the book and not finish.

Great series and I mean a great series!!!

I had a great time reading this collection and getting to know the characters. Each book leads on from the last but could still be read alone.
The way the author develops the relationships between all the main players just feels so natural. And he craftily introduces new ones on the journey.
Worth the 5 stars despite some silly proof reading lapses here and there.

am so glad these books were in one collection. Five different stories that are stand alone books with the same characters primarily Joey Mancuso and his crime solving brother, Father Dominic O'Brien. Had difficulty putting the books down and just went from one mystery to the next. These are the first books that I've read and will be looking for more

Good read

Always a good read. A eclectic group of individuals who are bound and determined to bring each murder or injustice to a satisfying conclusion. Lots of twists and turns and a little bit of humor thrown in. Give them a chance. I believe you'll be intrigued enough to continue the journey. I did😉😎🙋

An ex NYPD police man who solves crimes like a Modern Day Shakespeare. Enjoyable even when you can figure out the killer before our detective. The characters are riveting and you keep turning pages long into the night. The later books seem to have much better crimes and methods of solving. Would recommend.

interesting

I had to ignore the numerous grammatical and punctuation errors or I would never have been able to finish these excellent stories. I thoroughly enjoyed them, and am looking forward to the further adventures of the two brothers.

I've read several books in this series, enjoyed each. There are twists that keep your interest. There are a few grammer errors but they don't deter from the story. Joey may be rough and tough but he has a deep seated heart. I like the relationship between him and his brother.

Absolutely disgusting protagonist. Not only does he totally violate his vows as a priest and supposedly a follower of a faith, he violates just normal human decency. I really wanted to like this book, but 3 chapters in I deleted it in revulsion.
