If you really want to travel with kids but figuring out where to get started is overwhelming then this book is a great place to start. This couples has been everywhere with their little one and they’ve poured their experiences into this concise, clear guide. From how to seat yourselves on a plane to activities for a long car ride to dealing with potty issues anywhere they’ve got you covered. There are sections like their opinions on electronics and how to deal with tantrums where I would handle things differently, but that’s parenting. There is no one right answer that works for everyone. In general, their advice is spot on and covers eventualities I had never even considered. Their diversity of travel experiences is really why this book is so good and families will learn so much from their shared knowledge.

Overall some good tips however much of it did not apply to me as I do not have toddlers and I have multiple children. This book is written with 1 toddler in mind. Still picked up useful tidbits though.

I read this right before going on a big trip across seas with my 2 little ones. It helped me plan, prepare and then let go and enjoy.

One of the scariest things you can mentally prepare for as a parent? Travel. When you think of the unpredictability, the unknown, the change of routine and everything in between – it can be terrifying!

AJ and Natasha have done an amazing job in this book to break down those mental barriers that we as parents have when it comes to thoughts around travel. They make you realize that travel is possible and it is very important to raising well rounded children. They help you open up the doors to the possible and make you comfortable with the unknown. For me personally, loss of control has always been my worst fear – I like to feel that I am in control at all times and travel sometimes stops you from having this control. This book helped me re-frame this way of thinking to be equip me for travel with my kids (which is one of the most rewarding experiences you can do together as a family unit).

This book follows their own principle of Be F.L.E.X.I.B.L.E – one of the most important lessons and skills that we can learn as parents. Each letter is broken down into helpful, real world advice. I appreciated this the most as a parent – I did not feel like I was being lectured or made to feel bad. Instead, it was a conversation with a fantastic friend giving the best possible solutions to a non-perfect situation.

Kids can make any situations impossible to completely plan for (tantrums, illness, diaper disasters) but AJ and Natasha are there to help you. They share their own mistakes and the how and why their solutions work. I loved their solutions for flying on airplanes (which to be honest I wish I had seen before we travel to South Africa three years ago!). There are so many practical tips that you can implement when traveling.

This book covers all types of traveling – from air to train to bus to car to cruise. You can apply their tips to short and long travel itineraries, the possibilities really are endless. This is a well written, fun and personal book that parents of children all ages will love. It will help you reclaim that sense of adventure, stashing away your fear of travel.

The book would have made a decent magazine article. But for a book I was left wanting for something more. The authors went on a grand around the world vacation taking their young son with. Tips and tricks that were presented focused on a child aged 0-3. There was an airline seating suggestion for larger family’s but beyond that one mention nothing for someone look to coordinate for a larger family or older kids.

Respect to the authors for their can do attitude (both striking out on their around the world vacation and authoring a book). However the authors budget nor the two adults to one toddler ratio is just not applicable for most traveling families. I found content too narrow to be helpful.

This book had some helpful tips! I think it will be good to keep as a reference for some specific items or situations. It’s definitely impressive what they were able to accomplish with their boy and all they saw and learned.

But being a pretty extensive traveler myself (mostly alone or with my husband, now expecting my first baby) I didn’t really find too much in here that was super insightful or revolutionary. Some good ideas, some good resources, but still felt that the application was individual and not too generally applicable for many things. It was also very short and covered a lot of topics in a short page length. I would have liked more detail.

I also felt that they’re discussion on budgeting or any specific mention of ways to save money were extremely different than what many would consider “cheap” ways to to travel. I understand if they’re taking an 8 month trip, they probably have a lot of money, but it’s definitely noticeable and some of their methods are simply unrealistic on a truly frugal budget, from my experience. Or what I would consider traveling cheap.

Overall, I’d say it was useful and I’ll keep it around to look at a few things when the time comes. It does have a motivating factor to see families make their dreams a reality and want the same for us as our family grows. But I think I’ll be able to find better resources out there.

A really helpful guide, complete with tips, checklists, and pictures. Some stuff I knew, some I didn’t. The overall value wasn’t so much in the advice, but in the reassurance that, yes, you can do this! I booked a summer vacation right after reading this.
