Rate this book
City Clerk Donald Dingle is a pest. He's a tightwad with the city budget and criticizes the police department to the point that Police Chief Elizabeth Friedman would love to see him retire. And she did mean retire, not expire. When he dies soon after having stents implanted, it's natural to wonder why he didn't recover. When the reason becomes apparent, people in town wonder if they're safe in the hospital. Then some of the pointing fingers aim at Medical Examiner Skelly, a good friend of the police department Dingle wanted to abolish. Chief Elizabeth Friedman has her hands full. She has to tread on some important toes to find the answers. Even if her department survives, can the hospital and her friends there do the same? And how long does a small town survive without its hospital? Join the quirky characters of Logland, Illinois in this police procedural with a cozy feel.

The third book of the Logland series is a fast moving police procedural. It held my attention and I read it witjout stopping. Logland series reminds me of the Peter Shandy series that has college to the adjoining the city. Elizabeth Friedman has left her job in Chicago police force to become the Police Chief of Logland. She has a friendly relationship with the E. R. Dr. Skelly. Donald Dingle, the City Clerk has decided the police department should be disbanded and replace with a contract with the sheriff department. Donald has a negative impact on the city departments and collapses in the Mayor's office. He dies in the hospital and rumors have the doctors treating guilty of medical malpractice. They are relieved of duty. Elizabeth has no leads to what happened to Donald. A surprise ending. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND SERIES.

Chief Elizabeth Friedman is at it again--this time tangling with the local hospital and City Hall in order to solve a murder. There are plenty of suspects and not enough clues.

As always with Elaine Orr, a delightful book

Elaine Orr is such a wonderful author, I'm always excited when she has a new book out. Her writing is such a joy to read. Recently I've had a hard time finding good reading material. Just a random dry spell between satisfying reads. I've started several books without being able to get into any of them. When, joy of joys, Elaine Orr provides me with a new one. From page one things flow smoothly and effortlessly. Even though the parts where characters are being introduced and backgrounds given feel more like remembering old friends. Who else but Elaine Orr could make a city council meeting interesting, but interesting it is. I had no trouble getting into this book. The plot  is engaging and even the locale drew me into the story. I was carried through the well drawn plot to the satisfying conclusion.

Anyway, I loved this book and I bet you will too. I savored every page. Now I'm back to having to wait while Ms Orr writes me another good book to read.

In Logland, Illinois, cantankerous city clerk Donald Dingle is somehow murdered at the local hospital shortly after a fairly routine and successful heart procedure. Dingle was despised by many in the town, so there is no lack of suspects. But how any of them had the opportunity to carry out the murder is puzzling.

Police chief Elizabeth Friedman feels a lot of pressure to solve the case quickly. Dingle and a colleague had been pushing to eliminate her small department. The hospital looks bad after its security is compromised. As the days go by, the local newspaper heaps bad publicity on both the police and the hospital. Finally a break comes from an unexpected direction.

I enjoyed this police procedural set in a small town populated with lots of interesting characters.

Enjoyed this latest addition to the Logland series. My favorite part is the interaction between Elizabeth, the female police chief, and her staff...not to mention her relationship with Skulley. The book had a lot of twist, and the outcome was a surprise. Looking forward to more in this series.
