Oxygen Manifesto is a story of the triumph of ordinary people over the might of the establishment
in their battle to save the environment.
Thatha lives in a remote and inaccessible part of Manipur and Ravi is a young IAS officer from
the Tamil Nadu cadre. Circumstances bring them together and they create the most effective
environmental movement the world has ever seen. They shun the politics of criticism and personal
attacks and focus on establishing a new polity based on the principles of environmental protection,
habitat conservation, direct civil action and democratic decentralization.
Oxygen Manifesto is an engaging story about environmental degradation and the impact of the
Anthropocene. It exposes the myth around wealth creation and the paradigm of economic growth.
It also plants a development narrative that is environment-centric—an idea which is considered
fringe in today’s times, but is bound to emerge as a mainstream thought in the future.
The story also has an undercurrent of minimalism and veganism, as opposed to consumerism and
wasteful consumption. A novel concept of taxing goods and services based on their carbon and
water footprint has also been introduced by the writer. This is a must-read for anyone who cares
about the future of human civilization.

Oxygen Manifesto is a book that redefines nature. We spoil the environment with activities, that effect the nature. And only when the nature outbursts we put in front the ill effects. When does this stop and when go we get a clean environment?
This book gives answers to all those questions. It runs around Tatha, a Manipur resident and Ravi, a young IAS officer. Both come together to fight the toughest battle and create an ideal environment, there by making it safer than ever.

Firstly, I loved the cover page. In addition to this, the book comes in a hardcover.

The entire story is divides to multiple short chapters that make it easy for a reader.

The language is easily readable with quick succession.

With a great research and dedication, the author made sure everyone has to rethink about out mother earth.

I hope these words just don't stick to the books... After all its our environment.

🌱 Oxygen Manifesto is a fictional interpretation of a world where the environmental problems that our Mother Earth is facing as of today, are solved by bringing out positive changes around the community by a jealous and honest IAS officer, Ravi, with the help of Thatha, a man determined to plant trees in any corner he can.
🌱 The book primarily focuses on establishing a new polity based on conservation of habitats, both for humans and animals and to have decentralised governance, one where each community is responsible for its own administration.
🌱 While the manifesto highlights the problems that our environment faces today, I found the solutions advocated lacked depth and it is very hard to see how the points of the manifesto are going to solve the very big problem of 'environment degradation'. Somewhere the narration also lies flat and only comes off as a series of bullet points that attempt to touch the topic from the surface.
🌱 The idea that communities as a whole can restructure themselves, evolve and work towards making a better future, sounds promising but as is with any society the first point is having awareness and the will to change, and how often do we see that in people? Yes, it is a good attempt at bringing forth awareness for the multitude of issues that mar the land, the air, and the sea, but without the will to change does a manifesto help much?
.
.
.
.
Anyhow, credits to the author for attempting to talk about a topic that demands utmost attention now, more than ever.

Pollution is degrading our Earth and engulfing it daily tona state which will soon be irreversible.
If we don't take deep look that our own small actions are digging deeper holes for us , we cannot make better judicial choices for the home we live in.

Oxygen Manifesto is a book written by Sir Atulya Misra who is a Sr. Officer of Indian Administrative Service .
As he himself has worked in TN state State pollution board , the pages mirror his immense knowledge of different places on Earth , the nomads of deserts , how ocean is getting polluted , the traditional cultures using vegetation's and the insights into administration even showing some loopholes it carries that if can be managed , nicely can be used in a better way for the healing of the damaged earth by using resources in a better sustainable way .
With a backdrop of politics , public health and even elections swathed with twists maintained by suspense of a fiction of identifying people working in disguise for the cause and some mystery , this story brings the main motive of making readers understand how our world is changing and if we can use some new ideas With blend of traditional knowledge we can achieve a better future !

Beautiful hardcover book published by ARPA publishers inked into only 193 pages priced at 295/- it is a thoughtful learning experience for readers who like to enrich their knowledge this book will serve you good.

Coming to the book, I recently read Oxygen Manifesto which deals with the issue of climate change and how important is to have a sustainable lifestyle. The protagonist of the book is Ravi Chandra Bose, an IAS officer who in his travels meet Tatha, an old aged person doing his bit for preserving his land. Inspired by this and understanding the power he has, Ravi and Tatha decide to plan a revolution. A holistic approach to tackle the issue of environmanetal preservation takes them on a ride. How this turns out is what the book is about.
It's a detail oriented book with lot of information thrown at you which might be slightly boring at times, but the intention behind the book is all heart and so relevant to today's times. Also it describes the beautiful natural habitats and it makes you want to take a trip down there and experience nature at first hand. The author himself is an IAS officer so fair warning of reading things that are pure research material. I could relate it with my text book so 😋
Overall this was a light read and I enjoyed reading the book!

Oxygen manifesto

This is a very important book. We all know that we humans take things for granted. Especially the gifts bestowed upon us by Gods. Let it be nature, flora, fauna - we tend to destroy it with our very own hands. As a result, there's always an imbalance in this world. What humans fail to understand in their pretentious ego & ignorance that if they cut all the vegetation & eradicate all wildlife - then it will definitely be the end of the very world we live in.

The effectiveness of the book lies in the fact that it's very easy to read & being a light-read novel - it can be read anytime. It also gives an insight into dirty politics, negligence of leaders towards important, salient & crucial matters whilst focusing only on money-making & things that will favour their pockets. Even at the cost of the welfare & health of the general public!

The main aim being to creates an awareness pertaining to more hygienic & clean air. To be apt, we need a clear atmosphere full of pure 'Oxygen' - devoid of all pollution & contamination. It also discusses extensively the Lack of Green initiatives & though resources are limited, can't be replenished, nonrefundable, nonrenewable & may exhaust anytime. However, still people abuse nature's abundance & the overexploitation will lead to nonsustainability of the resources.

We all know how pollution is a serious threat to mankind. In ancient times, the environment used to be balanced & clean. In our grandparents or parents times, we didn't have much threats pertaining to pollution. Even during our earlier days, especially in our childhood, we never encountered any issues. Whatever it was, it was upto negligible amounts. People earlier never in their wildest dreams thoughts about buying basic amenities like water which is essential for survival. It used to be available to everyone in copious amounts - as it was supplied continously by nature. Though it's a non-renewable source of energy which is being continually replenished by nature. However, due to our excessive use in an extensive manner - natural resources have got depleted in an abnormal rate, due to which all the abundant resources which were available to us easily - have now become extremely scarce. And now we've to buy water to quench our thirst - to avoid ailments. We've to install water purifiers to drink safe water, else we'll fall sick due to the contamination of nature & it's resources. Similarly, at this rate - the day isn't far when we've to buy air to breathe as well. At the rate at which technology is improving & the air getting polluted due to the rise of vehicles as more people are able to afford it. More & more new vehicles are being launched to the market due to the high use & thus demand leads to greater production. Hence, the greater rate of air pollution. So the day isn't far when we've to carry oxygen cylinders & refill it regularly like how we do for our locomotives in petrol bumps. Like the ones we see in hospitals, where sick patients have to pay to breathe pure oxygen free of all contamination.

So it's a serious issue considering the fact that we've taken everything for granted. As the facts given in the book, 1000s die every year from air-pollution-related-sickness. There're many airborne illnesses. It arises from toxic smog, photochemical smog, oxides of nitrogen, carbon & sulphur, ammonia, ozone, volatile organic compounds, carbon monoxide, methane, particulate matters, smoke from burning, burnt diesel & many countless factors which amplifies & acts as a catalyst in this process. The books presents an insight on many technical, scientific & chemistry related stuffs pertaining to greenhouse gases, particles, etc. Ask a patient who's contracted with bronchitis or asthma or anyone with breathing ailments - how much pure air means to them. It's time we do something about it, take a stand against pollution, other than just posting on social media.

Today is World Earth Day, I have recently finished a good book addressing environmental concerns.
Title: The depletion of the ozone layer and other human interventions are disturbing the ecological balance. Oxygen Manifesto by Atulya Mishra addresses the issue of saving the environment and the precious gifts of mother nature. It is said that to effect a change in society, you need to be the change yourself. The title is befitting as the book talks about how ordinary people in India have faced the challenges posed by the establishments to save Mother Earth.
Book Review:

The human greed is taking a toll on the ecological balance. Every year, we see and hear messages about how we should preserve the nature and plant a tree. We are destroying the forest cover in order to fulfil our selfish man-made needs. Unfortunately, there are only few people and activists who are taking steps to save the natural gifts. We have heard of Medha Patkar and her campaign, Narmada Bachao Andolan. On a similar note, the protagonists of this book, Ravi and Thatha work in order to reduce the carbon footprint and strive towards giving a better future to the coming generations.

The writing is simple and easily comprehensible. Research findings and important citations help readers understand the crux of the problem in a simple manner. The author motivates people to take steps in order to preserve the environment.

Many people argue that there is no problem as long as we are planting trees. We fail to realize the benefits of the trees that have been planted for several years for now. Urban development, real estate constructions, etc. is leading to the depletion of green cover, but will be planting a few saplings in the place of a huge tree, is it a rational solution? The Paris Agreement has laid down a set of rules that each country must follow to preserve the green cover.

There is an urgent need to bring more consciousness among the public as well as the administrators to take steps in preserving the natural resources. Policy making needs to be stricter and in line with global standards to achieve success. What steps would you take to save the environment? Taxation of carbon footprint is an innovative solution suggested by the author.

Thank you for the copy @rupa_publications.

With the elections right around the corner, this book turned out to be such an important guide. The political system being so corrupt in this Era, the world has not seen better days in a very long time. The rich and poor balance was never this disproportionate, the environment was never this polluted and the standard of living was never this high. We often forget that while we are busy in depleting the natural resources around us, we will run out of it soon. This book will make us think twice before we take things for granted.
~
Oxygen Manifesto revolves around the lives of two people - Tatha and Ravi Chandran Bose. Two people whose lives get entwined due to circumstances. Tatha belongs to a remote village in Manipur and from a very young age takes up the responsibility of planting saplings in and around his village. He brings back life to parched lands and in return takes no credit. Ravi, a young IAS Officer belongs to a Tamil Nadu cadre. Over the years he realises the environmental importance and introduces Oxygen Manifesto, a plan to rescue Earth from being completely depleted.
~
This book talks about the journey of Ravi who refers to many significant points like how the resources are being abused, sickness due to pollution, the irrational political bills and the incapability of them saving the land. Environment has been affected severely over the years and only humans can be truly blamed for it. This book serves as a wake-up call and urges us to take things into our hands in doing our bit to save Earth. The cover is beautiful and so was the writing of the author. Though few instances felt a bit like textbook material, it did a fine job in conveying the message.

Oxygen Manifesto by Atulya Mishra is an interesting book which throws light on environmental issues. It makes the readers question certain things in society and think about the condition of the environment. Not only does it talk about the environment, but it also discusses political issues. The book is very informative.

The protagonists of this book are Ravi Chandran Bose and Tatha. Ravi Chandran Bose is an IAS officer from Tamil Nadu and Tatha is a man from a village near the North-Eastern state of Manipur. When they both meet, Ravi is influenced by the ideals of Tatha and they both strive towards a better future. Although the characters are completely different from each other, they share a similar aim. The book describes their journey towards the betterment of the environment. Read the book to know more about their mission to save the environment.

The book discusses in great details about important issues like habitat conservation, environmental protection, direct civil action and decentralized democracy. The pros of democratic decentralisation have been addressed really well. The narrative is environment-centric and is quite engaging. Written in simple, lucid language it is informative, insightful, as well as interesting. The plot is realistic and the characters are well developed. The beauty of nature has been described really well. The theme is fresh and not much works have been produced in this literary genre. It is very well researched and the author has done a commendable job in spinning a story around environmental issues.
The cover looks very beautiful with the white minimalistic background. The book is beautiful inside-out.

Overall, Oxygen Manifesto is a great read. I totally recommend this book to anyone who is interested in and cares about the future of the human civilization and environmental issues.

Oxygen Manifesto

A great book containing diverse knowledge, beautifully scripted by Atulya Misra who happens to be a former IAS officer. His knowledge and experience have made this book much more interesting to read. Starting from the cover it is beautifully printed and gives us the idea and the main theme of the book. The title itself holds a lot of importance.

From the very beginning of the book you will remain engaged throughout. The book is divided into chapters which makes easy and understandable for the readers. The main theme of the book is protecting the environment from the degradation and violation. It create an awareness among the readers and develops an attitude to preserve and protect the environment and also take part in the process of making our world a better place to live in. Through this story one will also get to learn about different cultures of various communities of people. It also shows us how the political system actually works and the role of the ministers which they don't exercise for the benefit towards the environment.

This book has an immense knowledge. One should definitely read it. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Yes definitely recommending for better understanding of our environment.

Oxygen Manifesto : A Battle for the Environment By Atulya Mishra
Format - Hardcover

Total pages -192

Publication - Rupa Publications One of the most realistic reads of This year . Pollution and Global warming are now two very common words . All of us know about the Importance of ' oxygen ' but none of us is aware of it .

This book doesn't contain a story to make heart melt . But it's a story about true ' battle ' for the 'Environment ' to save ourselves .

The protagonist here is an IAS officer . Through the bitter experience of the protagonist we ,the common people can get the inner side of our political system . This topic is sensitive . But author has done really a great job here and put his thoughts with a great use of words .

The plot grows with interest and end with the hope . The hope is to make everyone aware so that next time when we just question others we should take a step too. We should take a step for our mother earth .

The book has a great prospective and a deep message in it which will force reader to think

Also the cover illustration should be admired and the little illustrations inside are also beautiful .

What expected when I picked up this book was a Non-fiction ,talking about Environmental degradation & issues. But after reading this book, i was floored and moved by the content of the book. Yes ,it is a climate -fiction written by an Indian Author .
To start with , i absolutely liked the cover ,as it very much accords with the story & it's title. The cover gives us the image of ecosystem & how the greed of Mankind is badly affecting on it.
The book presents important alarming messages about human greed & governmental negligence which is harming our present and damning our future.
This is a book that shows us just what's at stake, what's gone wrong, and how we can fix it by creating solutions to such serious problems & Oxygen manifesto is the implication of these problems (social disharmony/ecological havoc).....

REVIEW

We are living in a world where the air we breathe is not even pure and healthy and the newspapers are filled with the various environmental issues. And, the saving of the planet is very important at this point of time. There are very few books that talk about the conservation of the environment. Oxygen Manifesto by Atulya Misra is one such book which opens the mind of the reader and tells the hidden stories of the people who worked for saving the environment. This book not only opens the mind of the reader but also motivates us to do something about it apart from just pointing out how unhealthy it is.

The book Oxygen Manifesto revolves around Thata, who lives in a remote area and an inaccessible part of Manipur and is doing something really great for the environment but is not interested in the media coverage. While on the other hand, is Ravi Chandran Bose who is a young IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre. And, both of them meet each other due to the depleting condition of the Earth and do something which is at a macro level which focuses on saving the planet Earth and focus on establishing a new polity based on the principles of environmental protection, habitat conservation, direct civil action and democratic decentralization.

Oxygen Manifesto is a very gripping tale revolving around saving the planet Earth. It takes a reader on a journey which is remarkable in its own way that it made me stick to the book till the end. The initial chapters built up so much suspense that my curiosity level was very high. Frankly, when I got to know about this book I thought of it as a Non Fiction but I am glad that it is a Fiction because I think through stories we learn more. The opening chapter itself blew me with the subtle and engaging writing style. The author has written the book in a beautiful manner that I just dived into the story. I really liked how the author has described the various events in such a detail with focusing on so many issues like pollution, caste related issues, deforestation etc.

There are not many characters in the book but all the characters are very well crafted and described. I especially liked the fact that the author has given the background of the characters which made the read very interesting. And, the fact that the book is based on the author's experience is amazing. It also lists down various sustainable development methods.

Overall, a very informative and an engaging read for all the people. This book has opened my eyes and motivated me to do my bit in order to save the planet. This book is a must read. I would highly recommend this book to everyone.

The author has elaborated the issues, concerns and the solutions related to the environmental cause in depth but a bit of more dialogue exchange between the characters would have made it more appealing.

I would like to recommend this book to all as a reminder of their responsibility towards Mother Earth and its environment.

I am very much satisfied with this book and it was my pleasure to read such a book providing information and excitement at the same time!
An Indian Police officer, on a fortnight break...
the pristine beauty of islands, dense forest, and never-ending picnic. Then a man is found, ignoring him! suspected fugitive...Who is he actually? Toughest investigation that seemed to be closed, virtuoso officer unfolds...
You know it's a good book when you read it without picking any other book. The book is very interesting to read and the excitement goes up and up and flat and up but not down. Personally, I thought the start very similar to sacred games, It's not a copy of any book and it's unique., At first sight, the social science title and background seemed so boring that I hardly wanted to pick it up, But it is so beautiful that I wasn't able to resist reading it. The moment I picked it up and started reading I was like "wow such a great start"Often I see that the books I read have a boring start everything going normally and then things changes, we have new characters and new plot and adventure and thrill...but many readers fail to reach that excitement as they keep it back in the shelf after reading those few boring pages. This book astonished me with such a boosted start. To get back to the normal level and judge the book I read it again but it was worth. (You know na, I cannot write reviews in excitement as in that way I'll say only good things and then after few days I realize that yes there were things which I did not like about that book)Very good narration and storytelling...I'm glad that fancy words are not flaunted and things are kept simple and interesting. The narration is enough to make a reader fall in love with storytelling. The story is very nice and has great potential. I am really glad to read a book which audaciously elaborates social issues, complexities, and problems which are hidden to the public and or don't have their attention. There are very few books like this one which provides information with such a beautiful story. I admire the skill of connecting topics, like an election, environment and social issues in one story.Binding them together to make an interesting read because as much I know, that people don't like reading about these topics. Because of lack of interest in social topics, the common information remains hidden from others and when they find it they say "We were never told about it"

Let's just all take take a moment to appreciate the beautiful cover. I'm in awe, it's so pretty. The little illustrations inside on every page is also very eye catching and adds to its appeal.

Now moving on to the concept , as children we've all written essays about 'Saving the Environment', 'Global Warming', etc. Atulya Misra here has written this wonderful book about it. He has given us an insight into Thatha's life and how he launch's an initiative to fight back industrialization, usage of plastic, cutting trees, etc to not just preach but to practice as well.

This is a indeed a realistic and relatable subject which is, more often that not, ignored simply because we've become used to the lifestyle which is actually a product of exploitation of our planet. We've turned blind eye to the consequences our greed for consumerism has. All we do is crib about the unhealthy environment we live in while being completely ignorant to the fact that we're the ones who are to be blamed.

It's not like we don't read about the effects of climate change or global warming just about everyday in newspapers and on internet, it's just that we simply do not acknowledge, perhaps because we don't want to change, because we're addicted to this lifestyle or perhaps simply because we don't care.

If you care then you should start bringing the change now and not wait for scientists to figure out how to save life because they're not the ones who have that power. You have! The people!

This book is an eye opener and I'd suggest everyone to read it to see just how deep the pit we've been digging for years now has grown and will swallow us if we don't take necessary steps. It's not hard! All you've to do is try.

After reading this book I really hope some of us will become more attentive and will try to protect the environment as much as possible. All of us should cut down on plastic, plant more trees, take the public transport and anything that can lead our environment towards betterment.

Kudos to the author for being so honest and to be able to teach us all a lesson through this amazing book. I really enjoyed the storytelling too.

"Retrieving the planet is not a matter of choice, but that of compulsion. After all, it's the only one we have."

This story is all about the journey of an IAS officer Ravi Chandra Bose meeting an old man of Moreh, Thatha; sharing their knowledge to save the environment and putting forth the movement of "Oxygen Manifesto" in spite of the diabolic political parties who don't even bother to lay their hands on to bring out the safe and sound environment.

"Is this not the story of almost all major scams and scandals? Is it worth it? Are we not fooling people all the time? Do we not know the character of our politicians before we elect them to high office? Do we expect a noble transformation when they sit at coveted positions, from where they have enormous power and opportunities to plunder? Are we not fooling ourselves? All the time!"

We are aware of the fact that our environ is no more fit and healthy all because of the human anthropogenic activities and no or very few official work on this real evil.

Anthropocene; Earth's most recent geologic time period as being human-influenced, or anthropogenic, based on overwhelming global evidence that atmospheric, geologic, hydrologic, biospheric and other earth system processes are now altered by humans and through a profound tale author has provided many thought-provoking insights on environment and its degradation and how we humans are so self- occupied that we are dodging the real demon and letting it destroy us and our world.

The cover of the book completely justifies its content. This books talks about the power of individuality. It took me 4 hours to finish this book and it was totally worth it. The book that valorously elaborates the evil of the mother earth. The author has explained that how death and devastation caused by air pollution is like a huge man- eating monster, who has devastated a myraid of life.

"At this rate in the near future will see more plastic in the ocean than fish."

The narration is lucid yet rich. I totally appreciate the author's selection of words. Characters of Ravi and Thatha goes abruptly with the book.

The book is absolutely engrossing and brilliant incentive to bring out the harsh realities of human activities towards the environment. I would recommend it to every other person to arise out the sense of vigilance and protection towards nature.

A book on a very different and important subject. I think this is the best time to read this book. It’s Summer season in India and the heat is unbearable, there are off season rains in some parts, the variations in the climate are weird. We are already experiencing the effects of global warming. Global warming: we all know what it is, we have read and written about it in school and colleges but are we having any efforts towards reducing it? We often think that we alone cannot do anything, or what difference will it make if only I stop doing this or that, maybe this book will help you change that attitude.

A book on environmental degradation and how to retrieve the planet from it. The author has woven a beautiful story to give a more effective message. The story revolves around two people Ravi and Tatha who are very different but have the same motive. Ravi Chandran Bose is an IAS Officer, belongs to Tamil Nadu cadre. Tatha who has had only primary education lives in a village near Manipur. With a strong urge to do something for the environment he starts planting trees on the barren lands of Manipur. It is very surreal experience to see how a single man can lead to a change. Circumstances bring these two together and they create most effective environmental movement.

I think the author has done a wonderful job by giving a very realistic and practical outlook towards this situation. The two main characters of the story represent two important aspects of the society- the common man & the system and how they can take efforts towards combating the environmental hazards. The model suggested by the author is brilliant and should actually be implemented.

I absolutely loved everything about this book. The main subject, the story, the narrations, the characters, everything is AMAZING! The language is simple and understanding, everyone can read it. The title and the cover of the book are unique and eye catchy. The illustration in the cover is very meaningful and attractive. Every component of the book makes it a MUST READ!

I definitely recommend it to everyone.

💚 "Retrieving the planet is not a matter of choice, but that of compulsion. After all, it's the only one we have."
.
.
Why OM:
💚 In this highly over-populated and thus over-polluted world, where humans try to find solace in noise, where the world seems to be wearing a mask to hide the ugly truth of air pollution, rampant crimes and redundant punishments, and with the planet Earth being on fire, Oxygen Manifesto is the need of the time.
.
.
About OM:
💚 This book is about the story of mainly two characters Ravi Chandran Bose and Thatha, both of which cross their paths due to the current scenario of mother Earth. Ravi Chandran Bose is a cadre from Tamil Nadu who has been working as an IPS. Eying the devastating condition of this planet, he realises the importance of saving the environment. Thus, he introduces Oxygen Manifesto- a life saver for planet Earth.
💚 Thatha is an old man who belongs to a distant village in Manipur. Having a major contribution in beautification of his village and the areas around, Thatha only gives and takes nothing in return.
💚 The circumstances, of once-lovely planet, bring the two men together, working on rescue mission of planet Earth.
.
.
My Review:
💚 Oxygen Manifesto is a highly-informative and a must-read book for all the earthians. The book literally pleads the readers to get up and do just their bit. It talks about many major issues like threatening pollution, caste abnormalities, resource abusal, irresponsible politicians and their impotence about saving the planet.
💚 OM serves as an eye-opener for the earthians and has the potential to make a move when we still have time. Although some of the chapters do seem like a social science textbook lessons, but a wonderful message at the end and throughout the book is commendable and worth reading.
Totally recommended!

What better time to read this book then now when the media rooms are constantly buzzing over the election campaigns. In the news, we witness the candidates looking for different issues to garner votes in their favor whereas in the book we actually find the voters chasing candidates who supports the ‘Oxygen Manifesto’.
But, what is this ‘Oxygen Manifesto’? You must read this unique, environment centric narrative to find out what led to its formation.

The book starts with an obsessive search for a mysterious man and recites all the hindrances the narrator underwent to find the truth behind this enigmatic leader and the reason behind his actions. Thus, we travel with the author to Moreh, the Gobi Desert, Tsagaannuur, Kabul and many other regions as the story of Ravi Chandran Bose unfolds.

Ravi’s ideas on habitat conservation, direct civil action and democratic decentralization are explored as the author provides a clear picture of the World we live in today, its exploitation by man and the dangers that lurk in the distance for the future generation. Thus, the author has raised his voice against such socio – political and economic degradation and the measures he suggests are realistic and can prove to be efficient means towards environmental conservation.
I, specifically, appreciated the concept of “Divine Politics” that promotes community development, inclusion and innovation.

In short, ‘Oxygen Manifesto’ is an effort to fetch back the essential life force that must have been lost in the unceasing struggle for wealth and power. There is still hope to act on the misdeeds or, like the character of Thatha, try to reverse the whole process so that the future generation do not have to face the brunt of the past.

I picked up this book because of it’s catchy cover. It’s a really beautiful hardcover that I couldn’t resist picking up and I am glad I picked this up. From cover and title I thought the book will be of non-fiction genre and related to environment but to my surprise it’s slight different than that. The story is woven around with the same concept. The story revolves around two people Ravi and Tatha. Ravi Chandran Bose is an IAS Officer, belongs to Tamil Nadu cadre. The author had pretty long fulfilling career in Indian Police Service working in different departments and in autumn years he wanted to be engaged in some productive activities. Tatha was the eighth child of his parents. He had his primary education in village school and could read and write few different languages. Circumstances bring them together and they create most effective environmental movement. It’s a story about environmental degradation and its impact of the Anthropocene.

I loved the plot as it’s way to unique than routine one. And hats off to the concept and storyline. The book is written wonderfully with good use of vocabulary and language. I loved the way story has been narrated. I loved the politics of criticism and personal attacks has been narrated as it’s really common and expected when you want to go for a different path than the usual one. This type of book should be encouraged as people are too careless about environment, their surroundings and preservation of nature. I recommend this to everyone. It’s a perfect book for gifting. Indeed a good one. Must read !

An eyeopener, this book deftly segregate the fabric of government, social and judicial system,it’s impact on the environment, the impact of anthropocence, critical situations arising due to them and offer affordable, adoptable measures and reforms if applied would surely bring profound change. The central character an IAS officer brings forth the bitter truths of man made hazards often ignored by the masses which is slowly eating up the beautiful landscapes of earth. He elaborates on the multitude of issues like increasing Carbon and Water footprint, deforestation, materialistic lifestyle, scams, corruption and others.

What sets it in a different pedestal is the resolutions offered in the form of Oxygen Manifesto which directs the masses to address the root cause of the issues and combat in a unique way. Adopting the policy like Carbon taxation, decentralisation of democracy, spreading awareness about harmful effects of wasteful consumerism, removing financial dependency on the central government are few of the measures which will help to bring a positive changes.

The author skilfully drives his point home while explaining the intricacies of the crisis humankind is facing in layman’s language and offering apt solutions. The characters are explored to full extent. The engaging plotline with a fast pace story will keep the readers engrossed in the book till the end.

An essential read for every reader. A treat for every environment lover.

"Oxygen manifesto" is a book which tells stories of two ordinary men- Thatha and Ravi, who are doing whatever they can for saving the environment from all threats.
The story starts with a police man who meets a man in Adman who was being searched for years i.e. Ravi. Later, that police man tries to contact many people who knew him and get to know about his early life.
Thatha has given all his life for the environment. He used to sow seeds wherever he went. He used to take care of trees like his kids. But, he was very much away from any kind of publicity.
Ravi was an IAS officer who gets to meet Thatha in Manipur. Later, he gets so influenced by Thatha that he forms a manifesto named "Oxygen manifesto" which has all the things which will lead to sustainable leaving. He forms a circle which does so much work to circulate about various environmental issues and work towards fighting with those issues.
Book talks about many issues such as climate change, pollution, plastic, land degradation, etc. It tells that country's economic growth is strongly linked with the environment. It talks about how politics should have issues related to climate change and environment.
This book is a must read for all the people who want to know how much our planet Earth is suffering and what can be done to save it.

Oxygen Manifesto is a work of fiction but it carries within it the call and cry of an entire population who seeks better lives and demands that from their democratically elected leaders. In the midst of the election season we should be used to the idea of manifestos! This one completely changes the way you’ll look at politics!

It presents a story that is a confluence of three journeys. First, there is Thatha. Thatha is a nobody- an unknown citizen. But, he relentlessly works for a cause- of restoring the natural vegetation of his beloved Manipur. Then, there is Ravi, an IAS officer posted first at Manipur, and then elsewhere. And lastly, there is the narrator, who looks for the backstory between these two elusive individuals. What have Ravi and Thatha done that is so praiseworthy? And if they have done something great, why are they not in the limelight?
The narrative is simple and the book is easy to read. The story hops between the tale of Thatha and that of Ravi interspersed with the efforts of the narrator to bring the two stories together.

Oxygen Manifesto is a fiction based on environmental issues and how a dedicated village man and a bureaucrat work to save and protect the environment in India. The bureaucrat eventually toiling to create and government which works for the overall well-being of the country, reaping success in his endevours. The ideology of subsistence and not sustenance is emphasized immaculately. The book is an eye-opener which talks about Indian history; politics which marred the growth than leading to the growth, vote banks, legacy in governance, corruption and many other evils attached to power and governance in India post independence.

Short and fast paced chapters are a plus point but the fact that this book is more of a narration with very less dialogue is a little disturbing. Nonetheless, the content is great. This book came to me as a fresh breeze giving me clarity, perspective and motivation to work on a personal level to be a better human everyday of my life.

It is a 4/5⭐read for all it has to offer- so simply and impactfully.

What a wonderful wonderful book!
This is my direct note to author- Atulya Misra

Very few people have the courage and skill to talk about serious issues through the art of storytelling. You are one such person sir. I loved it because the book is brutal honest about environmental degradation of India, the deficiency in our actions towards the action and how the system as a whole has impacted the nature.

Not just as a reader, as a budding environmentalist too i enjoyed the book, i learnt new things, and I felt more motivated towards what i do.the book should be a recommended read in school and colleges.
It is the best book to understand what is wrong with the system and what we can do as an individual, what is the power of an individual.

Thank you for coming up with such a masterpiece, i want to read more from you.

More power to you.
