Rainbow Arcade: Over 30 years of queer video game history

Rate this book
The history of video games has always been shaped by LGBTQIA* people and their work. These games embody our hopes, pain, love and will to see our lives and fantasies reflected in games - against everything and everyone that seeks to erase them.

I learned a lot that I didn't know about the history of queer video games. The design layout of the book was really great. Some of the essays were difficult to read because they were written in complicated academic language with a lot of assumed understanding of queer theory.

The essays weren't always my cup of tea, but it was so refreshing and enlightening to read something about my interests and identities and the history within.

I purchased this book while visiting Berlin’s Schwules Museum. It’s a great addition to my queer collection and I’d never seen a book on this subject before.

I discovered queer games I’d not heard of before but ultimately there isn’t a-lot of material for this book to work with. We’re so staved of queer computer game content and it shows! It’s terrible really considering how much the queer community game. We deserve so much better and we’re moving at a snails pace achieve it.
