A guide for hiking the entire 300-mile Superior Hiking Trail in Minnesota, or thru-hiking the trail. The guide information for planning a thru-hike, resupplying while on trail, a list of businesses in all the trail towns to plan your resupplies and rest days, navigating the trail, transportation information, how to stay safe while hiking (including interviews with local Search and Rescue squads with decades of experience in the area), a campsite quick reference list, suggested 10-,15- and 20-miles per day itineraries for hiking through Duluth, and much more. The guide also has many stories from author Annie Nelson's 2017 and 2019 thru-hikes. All mileage references have been updated in this Second Edition to match the 2019 Trail GPS and length data from the Superior Hiking Trail Association.
I am amazed at the amount of information that Annie Nelson provided in this book about thru-hiking the Superior Hiking Trail (SHT)! I loved her bravery to hike by herself with her dog--wow! She goes into lots of tiny details to help any future hikers! I'm always impressed with the positivity and generosity of people involved in the same hobby! It's so wonderful to hear good, heartwarming stories about people helping each other while we in the midst of this pandemic and the rioting that is happening in 2020. This is a must-have book for anyone thinking of spending a lot of time on the SHT and especially for a thru-hike! How great that the community surrounding the trail are all so willing to be helpful to hikers! I loved her side stories about the details of her hike and it inspires me to find more books from authors that go into the details of some big thru-hikes! I loved "Wild" and "A Walk in the Woods" and I see that there are a bunch on Amazon to consider for future reading! Nice job on this book, Annie!
Planning a summer adventure. This should be useful for some elements that many hiking guides overlook (super specific tips and contact info, store details all along the way, etc), but it’s more of a supplement than a full guide. Excited to bring parts of this along for the hike.
