Lily and the Wedding Date Mistake is the first book in a new series by Seven Steps, Love in Bloom. I really loved this story. It was so well written and I really lived the characters, although I wanted to shake Lily sometimes, but in a good way.. because I was totally living in the story. Can't wait to read the next book in this series.
There’s a fairly small group of authors that know how to capture what it’s like to go through high school, and the angst, losses and insecurities, and joys, happiness and successes, of young adulthood and first loves. Seven Steps is a leading light of that small group, and it’s novels like Lily and the Wedding Date Mistake (Love In Bloom Book 1) that show why this is so. This is a wonderful novel about growth, self-realization, true friendship and love. It’s also a wonderfully fun novel to read. Lily and Becks (Becket) are such amazingly layered characters and it’s a total joy to see their so justly deserved HEA be achieved. Add in Rose (who makes me regret I had no twin sister), Calla (BFF perfection) and the rest of a stupendous supporting cast, all perfectly crafted, and my only regret is that I’m limited to five stars. But for the fact that I’m literally dictating this review to my husband from my hospital bed I could go on and on with praises. The book definitely deserves it. Since I can’t do that I will simply note that the book is most definitely one to read, and it is easy to highly recommend. I’m definitely looking forward to the second book in this series (I’m debating which of several deserving characters I want it to star, though I give a slight edge to Rose because of a potential hint of who she dances with in the last chapter). As for this book, here’s the “Cliff’s Notes” version of my review: Simply superb.
****I Given & pointed out well more so; written a few spoilers in this review’*******
All I know is Lily was sort of annoying and whiny and cry and run away when things got tough! She got on my last nerve half the time. Though I understood where she was coming from with the insecurities and stuff, often teenagers even adult go through a situation where they have a hard time with loving themselves and being comfortable in the skin they are in. & or just accepting that you are different from other women or females. I was glad towards the end of the book; Lily FINALLY understood she wasn’t ugly and was beautiful... my self couldn’t understand what her problem was, especially when she was identical to her sister. Like um, hello, same face. How in the world can you not think you are as beautiful as you identical twin sister. Even Beckett (hate this name) even was confused about them at Lily cousin wedding, this one thing I like to address was FINALLY she told him about that wedding & with him giving his number to her sister. I said that could’ve been finally talked about rather than later down the line in this book. But at least they came to an agreement but even through all that they still fought over petty things. Due to both being JEALOUS... but one thing I never understood why she sister tried to push Lucas (or whatever that boy name was) on Lily when both Lily and Beckett like each other. & for one thing I already KNEW that Becks and Kim didn’t kiss..... Lily was just a fool, smh 🤦🏽♀️ like idiot girl closed her eyes and didn’t even see the kiss smh! I was like I bet he didn’t even kiss her & threw it was he didn’t “Kim” kiss him on the cheek! But at least they (Lily & Beckett) finally admitted they liked each other and started dating at the end of Kat (festival carnival thingy)...
For one about that Carnival I think that Sherri has something to do with that Gym (the school) pipes getting busted.... plus in the end, Calla parents (well mom) didn’t have to go into foreclosure with was a plus; because they had the Carnival for Kat at Call mom bakery or whatever eating area it was which was a good thing. If her parents place her mom place was belt like a castle and what not & was better than the other place.... what in the world was those people in that town thinking... for one if I seen a castle-like building where you can eat at I’m definitely going in to actually see how It is... even if I didn’t or don’t buy anything! But in the end, I was that Kat waked up from her coma, I believe often it depends on the person and how much strength they have to wake up... because of one... Becky grandpa was in a coma ... he dies whereas Kat didn’t it’s a different even it’s time for that person to go( even if the story is fiction).
It’s the end of the summer break before going back to the final year at high school for Lily and she is attending her aunts wedding reception with her twin sister Rose. She gets upset at one point, after falling over a chair leg and losing her glasses and runs outside for some fresh air. Whilst sitting alone in the dark, a male voice speaks to her. She doesn’t recognise the voice and can’t see who is speaking to her, without her glasses. She finds it so easy to speak to him! She pops away when a friend brings her glasses to her, just in time to see the person she was speaking to, asking for her sister’s number and giving her a hug.
On the first day back, for senior year, matters are made worse when she realises the boy is in her English class. When his name, Beckett, is called out as they are split into pairs, she gets a shock. Worse than that, is the fact that she used to know him, he was her best friend until he disappeared from her life some eight years or so ago, with no reason or goodbye. He ignores her completely in class and she can’t figure out why. He looks at her with distain and almost hate in his eyes. It takes months before she learns what was behind all of this.
They find themselves having to work together in certain classes and also when Lily decides to organise the Fall Carnival for the whole school. She works with Becks, her twin sister Rose and her best friend Calla, to organise the Carnival event for a worthwhile charity cause. Lily always thinks her twin sister is more beautiful and smarter than her and has little or no self-belief in herself. This affects her new friendship with Becks and she has a lot of growing up to do.
The story explores teenage angst and relationships. The normal teen insecurity issues and whether they fit in this group or that, especially in the cliques at school, the popular girls, the jocks, the nerds, the bullies or the invisible and awkwardly shy. It shows how simple misunderstandings can escalate into a disaster, new feelings can easily be crushed and lack of confidence can mask your true feelings. This is a well written saga of teen first love and friendship under fire. I enjoyed the read and went straight through it in one. The characters are very believable and the twist of a set of twins and the long missing childhood best friend, all add to the story. I received an ARC copy of the book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
'Lily and the Wedding Date Mistake' by Seven Steps is a story of friendship lost and found between main characters Lily and Becks. They travel through uncharted territory trying to figure out how to get their friendship back on track after Becks' faraway move many years ago. They don't seem to be on the same page and seemingly have no desire to find their way back to each other, but as the novel goes on, the two find that they have more common ground than they once thought, and they haven't changed nearly as much as they'd like to think they have.
While Lily works hard at planning a school carnival to help raise money for a fellow student, Becks works at getting on Lily's every nerve, or so she'd like to believe. Yet it turns out that the nerve he's hitting most is the one she does her best to deny – the one that makes her realize she has a crush on her former best friend. They spar throughout the planning process, and at times he agrees with her, which she finds gnawing at her since she can't grasp how his moods are always changing regarding how he feels about her. All the while, her sister, Rose, and her best friend, Calla, have issues of their own, making Lily's life that much more complicated.
With a healthy dose of uncertainty and teenage angst and a number of misunderstandings that her characters have to deal with, Seven Steps shows that this new story is a solid addition to her library of books. As author of the St. Mary's Academy series, she has also shown that her aptitude for writing swoon-worthy teen romance is definitely strong, and 'Lily and the Wedding Date Mistake' lives up to that. Definitely check out this new novel by a great author.

Oh this one is definitely a tear jerker. I loved this one a lot. I did not/could not put this one down. Another great story set in high school and dealing with everything involving high school and more. I felt bad for Lily because her best friend since they were little just up and left her. She had no idea what happened; she was only 8 or 9 at the time which makes it even worse. He finally comes back but Lily thinks he asked her sister out instead of her so things kinda escalate. Lily is so relatable and exactly like many girls in their senior year of high school. I really liked how Becks was written. You can definitely tell he has been through something that was painful and hard to talk about. I almost didn't like him in the beginning though because he had an attitude that you just didn't understand right away. I loved reading about the carnival also and that they were able to help people along the way. The character development in this story was great between Lily, Becks, and Calla. They all had things that they needed to work on and get over; and I was definitely glad that they were able to accomplish the carnival and working things out. I'm glad things turned out the way they did and I'm excited to see what happens in the next book. I would definitely recommend this if you want a cute high school romance that will make you cry.
Man, this is a book that just hits the spot. It has everything you want in a YA contemporary. Love, romance, turmoil, suspense, friendship, and the realness of true teenagers.
Lily reminded me a lot of myself growing up. The constant comparing to others and anxiety all that entails. I loved how real she was even when i wanted to smack her half of the book. Everything was believable and I spent most of the book wishing I could sit down and talk with her and fix her way of thinking.
Beckett was also a treasure. He too had his typical boy issues but I loved him anyway. He was always so supportive even when his way of showing it wasnt always the right way. We all make mistakes, right!?
I loved the side characters in this book too. They brought just as much to the story as the 2 main characters. I would love to follow more of them one day in their own stories. Especially Lucas.
Work has been chaotic for me so i was having to sneak in pages where i could of this book just to find out what happened next. I found myself thinking of this book while at work wishing i could be reading instead. It hit the spot and put a smile on my face. It was such a nice treat i know i will have to revisit soon.
Lily and the Wedding Date Disaster is the first book I’ve read by Seven Steps outside of the St. Mary’s series so I wasn’t totally sure what to expect. Needless to say, it didn’t disappoint. It was just as adorable and, even though it was still centered on high school students and the parents seemed more involved, it still felt a bit more mature. The mom In me wanted to shake the characters sometimes and tell them to get it together & use their words but it wouldn’t have been authentically teenaged if they did. Despite the age gap, I really related to Lily - and not just in a nostalgic way. I totally felt her struggles with insecurity and the way it lingered even after “fixing” the physical or action oriented parts that she thought she needed to. The insecurities don’t just magically go away until you learn to accept yourself exactly as you are and, in a book for this age group, I appreciate the author for making that message so central to the story. That aspect plus the lack of complete teenage recklessness make this a book I’ll be glad (and totally comfortable) to pass onto my daughters.
I really enjoyed this story. It was a fun read. It deals with the subject of self-confidence and how easy it can be to compare yourself to someone else and always come short. That is the case of Lily, and even easier to compare herself to her twin Rose. She lost her best friend when she was 9 and in a lot of ways has struggled ever sense. She lost that confident part of herself that she used to have and now that her best friend, Becks is back, she is put in a situation to have to try and find it again. Both Lily and Becks are different people now and they don't know what has happened to the other. They have also had quite a few misunderstandings that really cause problems for them. I really liked how this story played out and the way they had to deal with things. This is a slow burn story for sure as both characters have their guards up and haven't been clear with each other. They haven't cleared the air from almost 9 years ago and so it definitely ripples into the present. This story is clean and was definitely a good read! I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
I do not usually read YA but this book took me by surprise. It was about a girl who had such low self-confidence, she was scared of her own shadow. Her name was Lily, her identical twin was Rose. Rose was the one with the fashion sense, knew how to handle herself in any situation, and was very popular in school. Lily was just as beautiful but she didn't believe herself to be worthy of the good life. One of her friends, Kat, was in an accident and in a coma. Kat's mother lacked the money to pay the expenses. Lily decided to hold a carnival with all the funds going to Kat's mother to help her pay the hospital. Being forced to do many things outside her comfort zone helped Lily become more self-assured. It also helped her face her demons and come out smelling like... well a Rose. I highly recommend Lily and the Wedding Date Mistake by Seven Steps.
I think that's my one of the favourite books of this author. I very much enjoyed reading it. It was very emotionally packed and full of angst. Love how the characters were shaped and how the plot was flowing. Perfectly thought through with proper dose of sweet, romantic moments interrupted by angst and heartbreak. Would the two main protagonists be able to finally get their happily ever after? Story about growing up, about friendship, about bonds with siblings and family and how sometimes the main reason we are not fully happy is only because we do not believe we are worth enough and we want to be different person. I really liked how all these emotions were captured within the story and how I could feel them almost as intense as the main characters. I can't wait to read more of the stories from this new series.
Man, do I love a sweet YA romance! I’ve recently developed an addiction to romances in general, but my secret guilty pleasure is of the YA variety. When done right, a YA romance makes you feel a range of emotions and evokes memories. Lily and the Wedding Date Mistake is YA done right. Lily and Becks were childhood best friends until he moved away. When he shows up 8 years later, will they be best friends again or something more? I love how this book explores friendships and how they mature and change. It also delves into self image and the feeling of inadequacy I’m sure almost everyone can relate to. This was my first foray into the works of Seven Steps, though others have shown up in my recommendations frequently. I’m looking forward to reading many more.
This may be a book about teenagers, but the author did such an amazing job writing the book, that it doesn’t feel like a book for teenagers. Beckett and Lily were childhood besties, but Beckett moved away when he was still young and he returned after a few years. It appears miscommunication and misunderstanding caused twists and turns in their relationship when he returned, but they finally found their way back to each other, because they were meant to be together. It is a wonderful, clean, romantic story, with likeable characters that kept me interested from the beginning until the end. It is s definite must read book.
I received on ARC of this book from Bookfunnel and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
I couldn't put this story down, I loved getting to know Lily, her confident twin Rose and best friend Calla. Most of all I loved being taken on a journey to discover truth about what you think of yourself and others. I laughed and cried as I read Lily's story, she always compared herself to her sister, to other girls and felt lacking. Through the process of serving someone else, she was able to see clearly who she really was. Becks was a wonderful character to help drive the sweet discovery of self and love. Through learning his troubles and sadness she was able to see her own truth. High-school life is depicted very realistic and believable and boy am I glad I got the chance to walk in this world with Lily for a while. Excellent clean love story.
Seven Steps’ Lily and the Wedding Date Mistake is a sweet and fun story about a teenager who goes through a physical and a character transformation during a few months of summer vacation and the beginning of the school year. Lily has lived in the shadow of her twin, Rose, for her entire life. But one summer, things change. And Lily gets some different looks at school, but what she is most interested in is the new guy at school. There’s something familiar, but standoffish about him that she just can’t figure out. And when a member of her community is hospitalized and in a coma, Lily steps out of her comfort zone and decides she has to do something to help her friend. But will she have to do it alone?
I really enjoyed reading Lily and the Wedding Date Mistake. Lily was such a relatable character and watching Becks' character development was awesome. This story was about finding yourself and learning to be okay with who you are. I think everyone needs to learn the lesson that you can't compare yourself to everyone else. One of my favorite things floating on the internet right now is a comic of two flowers talking. The one flower says to the other that it's beautiful and it wishes that it was more like the second flower. The second flower responds that they're different flowers and of course they're different. It doesn't mean one is any better than the other. That's what this story reminded me of. Definitely give Love in Bloom a chance!
I truly enjoyed reading Lily and the Wedding Date Mistake. It has all the feels and great characters to go along with them! It was endearing to watch as Lily progressed through her journey of learning about herself, and figuring out how to handle different situations. Lily's characterization was authentic - she truly portrayed the teen experience. And true to form, there were a few times I wanted to shake some sense into her (much like I want to with my own teenager sometimes!). That said, this was a really good read, and I'll enjoy reading more from Seven Steps.
I received an ARC copy of this book and voluntarily chose to leave a review.
Friends to More Young Adult Romance This is a warm and clean coming of age story. It is mostly about teens learning to love and forgive themselves. It is about friendship on all levels. As readers, we see inside the minds of these high school students to see their angst, concern, love, and self-image. While it deals with girls, it also deals with what the boys go through, too. This author can really put the hearts and minds of teenagers where we can all see them. This is another fine book by a great author. I received this ARC book for free and this is my honest review.
I received a free ARC in exchange for a review. No one knows angst, confusion and lack of confidence like a teenager yet Lily and Beckett’s tale was told perfectly with teenage diction. I was laughing and crying along with Lily and when she was torn between telling Becks about her “date”, I wanted to yell at her to just tell him (which she didn’t because she’s a teen). This is a perfect tale of how one might lose our self esteem and how losing it may affect other areas in our lives and how getting it back isn’t as easy as loving someone else. It’s about loving oneself.
*I was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Honestly, this book took me incredibly by surprise! All of the characters are totally loveable and the author writes about high school experiences in a very realistic way. I binge read this book in a night because I couldn’t put it down and I’m so excited that this is book one in a series because I can’t wait for more adventures with these characters and the town of Bloom!
Lily and Beckett were BFF since kindergarten until Beckett left town eight years ago without saying goodbye. Now he is back in town and they have to find a way to reconnect again but it’s not easy because they have changed a lot. Lily is not longer a confident child. She feels invisible and plain, a shadow from her beautiful twin sister. But she will be forced to step out of her comfort zone and face all her fears and insecurities in order to find happiness, love and friendship again.
I've read several books written by Seven Steps; she has done a great job at writing a good book; she is becoming one of my favorite authors. I can’t wait to read more of books her books.
The story line caught my attention at the very beginning and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
I loved the chemistry between the characters.
I received a free copy of this book via booksprout and I’m voluntarily leaving a review.
This was such a cute book! I loved that Lily had so much to overcome and she did it with so many peoples help. She is a great girl who is just trying to help Kat and she did. Becks 😍😍 Lily and Becks were best friends until they were split up. Through them together as seniors and you never know what will happen.
I highly recommend this story if you’re looking for a great friends romance and just about a great hearted person.
I thought this book was very good..goosebumps n butterflies in all the right places. All of the characters were relatable and lovable--even the difficult ones. I'd love a continuance of Lily and Becks' adventures and experiences through young adulthood and how they navigate through change. I'd also like to know more about Rose and Adam and how that even happened! And of course, Kat and Calla! Great read! I give it 5 stars!
It started a little slow but the relationship between Lily and Becks kept me interested. The author does a good job of capturing teenage angst and self-doubt as well as sharing a positive message without being preachy. Great clean read for those who enjoy YA fiction.
I received a free copy of the book and am voluntarily reviewing it.
A beautifully well written teen romance story. This amazing storyline is based on friendship, second chances, self realization and image, love, and angst as one struggles through growing into an adult. The characters were well developed, fun, interesting and had a great cast of supporting characters. A wonderful story that kept my interest from start to finish. I voluntarily reviewed this ARC.
Lily and The Wedding Date Mistake by Seven Steps was gifted to me and I wrote this review voluntarily. I love this book about teen love, angst, and helping out those who truly need it. This is a very sweet story that you will love. A fast read.
I loved the story of Lily. Her life touches on so many issues of our young people. I enjoyed the way Seven speaks to her characters as if she is telling her life story. Great read. I laughed and cry.
