Anthony J Melchiorri is a scientist with a PhD in bioengineering. Originally from the Midwest, he now lives in Texas. By day, he develops cellular therapies and 3D-printable artificial organs. By night, he writes apocalyptic, medical, and science-fiction thrillers that blend real-world research with other-worldly possibility. When he isn't in the lab or at the keyboard, he spends his time running, reading, hiking, and traveling in search of new story ideas.
I have devoured every book in the Tide Series. They are excellently crafted and Tide: Dry Gallows is no exception. In this 9th installment of the series, my favorite character (Hybrid Lt. Brendon O’Neil) is featured prominently in the story line. A huge war is raging and the action scenes are so hard-hitting you can hardly catch your breath. I highly recommend this series for lovers of post-apocalyptic fiction.
5 stars. An incredible book, an incredible experience. This one left me shaking, feeling hopeless and full of despair ... but you know, in a good, thrilling kind of way! Thank the nether gods of all realms for the few shining bits of light that managed to peak through, even if only for a mere moment. But that's why I keep checking the horror box before all others, this shinola is scarier than heck!
HOWEVER!!!! why is this book listed as THE LAST IN THE SERIES here on goodreads? I honestly thought book 9 was it ... so you can imagine the emotional upheaval I'm feeling as I've read to the point of exhaustion... only to realize this battle is far from over! And for a few panicked moments until I found the next one on-line and already available - how was I to know??? - I thought my efforts in my non-stop Tide Read-A-Thon were going to be thwarted! Aargh!
Sigh... well, other than that, it was just awesome. I can't really add much more to my review than what I've said before. Great alternating story-line focus, really enjoyed getting to know not only O'Neill better but also some of our other supporting players as well. What Dom, Miquel, Glenn, Jenna and all the rest of the Dwarves, oops, I mean, Hunters do in this book is beyond heroic. And those new monsters. And the action. And and and... well, rub my face in the mud and call me a little piggy, but damn that was just amazing through and through. OK, granted knowing that even at the end of the world that you can count on the US Military Complex to produce an absolute cluster-fudge of a situation but still, wowzers. 'Course I'm curious why nukes aren't in play as well as wondering about submarines but still...
I've read this series but I haven't yet done much reviewing on Goodreads. As this is the latest one, I'll start here and perhaps go back and catch you up on the others when I have a few free moments.
This post-apocalyptic series by Anthony J. Melchiorri is unique in that it features a team of specialists trained in covert operations who do not directly work for the US or any other government. As such they have become suspect by some in the US military chain of command. Since team Hunters have proven their capabilities over time, the recently established command structure has included them in an all-out attack on the enemy forces - the beings behind the beings causing death and destruction. Naturally, there are minders keeping team Hunters, led by Captain Dominic Holland, in check. Dom wonders if these Special Forces groups have what it takes.
I'll just say right now, this book - as well as the others in the series - is not for the faint of heart. If you get emotionally involved with characters, keep tissues handy as team Hunters goes up against their enemies and struggle to keep alive with others keeping tabs as well as questioning eyes on their every move.
I have been a fan since book one of The Tide and I can honestly say this is the best installment so far!
We finally have the ability to be a force in this war and not just react to things happening to us and The Hunters happily do so. Plenty of action and twists and turns and an ending that leaves you wishing the next and final installment were already available means this one has it all! I’m already planning on a re-read as soon as I catch up on the sleep I lost finishing this one. It’s a story that’s impossible to put down once you start!
If you haven’t read this series yet definitely start with book one to get the full impact of the tale and enjoy the ride! Dom and the Hunters seriously kick ass!
What can I possibly say about the Tide series that I haven't already said in my reviews of books one through eight. Often in series writing, it often seems to me that the longer a series continues, the more the stories seem to deteriorate, as if the author had run out of ideas. So, I was concerned when book 9 of this series was released. But, I'm happy to say my concerns were alleviated. The book continues the saga, introducing new monstrous creations and new characters. The story was enjoyable as well, with a lot of Melchiorri's trademark page-turning action sequences. The author states that book 10 will be the final installment and answer all questions and tie up loose ends. I look forward to the last and final book
All hands on deck! The Hunters join the US and Allied forces to strike the FGL at Moscow and Baghdad.
The Hunters add a couple new faces to prepare for an allout assault on the FGL headquarters in Baghdad and Moscow. With the loss of Nahvid and Lauren in Frankfurt, the medical research is struggling to keep up.
A truly ensemble cast and an amazing storyline have kept me on the edge of my chair through nine books now and I can't wait to find out what new monstrosity the Oni Agent has cooked up now! Each new variation twists my stomach with both disgust and admiration tinged with no small amount of fear.
I can't wait for the next book although I hate to see this story end! An amazing series and a terrific read! I recommend The Tide. You're going to love these!
I have read the other books in the series and was excited to get book to see see what was going on. Just as in the other books the characters are well developed and we had a new addition to the Hunters. Lots of action and its really hard to put the book down. I really recommend reading this new addition to the series if you like books with lots of action and great characters that you can root for.
Those of you who have read the series up to this point, be prepared for a little deviation from the norm. This particular book isn't about the hero riding in on a white horse and saving the girl. It's about a supposedly hail Mary that goes wrong. Our heroes are tossed into a meat grinder where they are constantly put in life or death situations. Read on to follow your heroes to see who loves or dies
Excellent book. The Hunters are back in a difficult task, how to help save the world when some Allies doesn't disclose all. Keeping alive while move around enemies and allies.
The end for some heroes and the agony of defeat. New enemies that doesn't see but kill. Can't wait for the next book.
More Skull mutations, a dicey military operation, and two Hunters still MIA from the last book. The ninth installment in the series had me biting my nails in suspense. I can't wait for the next one to find out how the rest of the story will play out!!
I received a free copy from the author. My review is voluntary.
I like this series, but in this one there is even less story than usual. This is one, looong, battle. A little more story progression would have been nice, the bullet/monster orgy can get at little tiresome when it has been going on for three hours (audiobook). I'm still looking forward to the last book though 😄
The formula of the books in this series is getting pretty tired at this point. Very little actually happened in this book. Could have been a couple chapters in a book that actually progressed the story instead of the same old repetitive formula thats made up the majority of the series. I have to hope the conclusion will actually have some story to it.
I have devoured every book in the Tide Series. They are excellently crafted but I am starting to tire a little of the sameness. I will probably take a break from these for now after finishing Dry Gallows.
If you have never read any from this series I definitely recommend you start from Book 1... In some series you can get away with picking up in the middle but definitely not The Tide.
The action in this book was nonstop! There was no putting this story down, instead it held my attention until the very end! No spoilers, but I was on pins and needles wondering who would make it back to the Huntress!
This series is just phenomenal! Every book that is written just pulls the reader in deeper and deeper. There is absolutely no degradation that happens in so many series. Every single one is top notch. I cannot wait until the next,t one!!
I love the "Tide" books although I sometimes have to stop and read another book until my nerves settle. The books are so packed with action I get nervous for Dom and his crew. Thanks Mr. Melchiorri for a great read. Please hurry with book 10!
Book 9 had errors throughout and was a fun. The overall plot and characters have grown well. The plot has evolved, but still follows the other books well. I look forward to book 10.
I am in love with this story line, it might have a stretch here and there, but that's artistic license, Mr Mechiorri, all I can say is all done, good sir, and please type faster!
The Tide books have all been great to read and book 9 followed in the same footsteps. There is always a lot of action and wondering what the next page will bring. Anthony has once again kept me enthralled with this saga.
I have enjoyed this series and continue to look forward to new books. Dom and the Hunters would make a great movie series in the vain of Mission Impossible or the Bourne series.
This is an amazing series. Still a great storyline after 9 books. Love Dom , Meredith and the team. O' Neil is my favourite. Don't want the story to finish.
