This digital boxed set includes all five books in the Darkly Sweet series, more than 2,000 pages of deliciously wicked mages, deliriously devious witches, and true love!
Witch vs. Mage. Let the battle of the hexes begin.
Penny Lane has eight months to find a suitable husband among the monstrous mages at Rosewood Academy or her mother will lose her home and her life. With only a weasel, her wits and a handful of lollipops, she sets out to tame one of those mages, but can she keep her heart from being bewitched by notoriously wicked, Drake Huntsman? Enter the gates of Rosewood Academy, where mage battles mages in breathtaking tourneys, while witch war against witch in their own deadly games. The only law that can't be A witch must never fight a mage, and vice versa.
When the greatest mage in Dayside (our world) comes up against a seemingly sweet witch who has more Darksider blood than anyone else he's ever met, wills will clash and the two worlds will collide.
Amazing characters, settings, costuming, and plotlines. I loved every minute of this story told in two voices: the Mage' s and the Witch's.
It's silly and serious, childlike and completely too adult. Tea parties are counterbalanced with visits to a child's cancer ward.
It delves into the darkness that lives in us all and the light that makes life bearable. It demonstrates how sometimes when we hurt someone else, we do as much damage or more to ourselves.
I won't say any more. I want everyone to discover this gem of a series for themselves. It's perfect in every way.
Excellent world building, original premise and engaging storyline! Strong, determined and extremely clever heroine who overcomes personal vulnerabilities and outwits situational obstacles formed against her. I’m glad I got the box set; I devoured all 5 books from start to finish over a period of three days. Seriously, do not start unless you can function on a severe lack of sleep. Incredibly hard to put done.
Some cons if typos, grammar, spelling errors, and continuity are deal breakers for you; (ie: one 2 paragraph passage was repeated in entirety which was confusing until I realized it was a proofreading blip). Personally, I don’t hold those against an author. I’d rather read an engaging series with occasional mistakes than technically proficient yet boring characters and plot.
You know those reality tv show train wrecks that you can’t help but look away from? That’s how I felt when I read this series.
Penny is. Strange. Reading her character was a lot like nails on a chalkboard. But I still kept reading. Some of the plot was obvious. And I still kept reading. Drake went from polished to inane so quickly. But I still kept reading.
And I have no idea why. The characters were annoying. The plot was odd. I have no idea why I felt it important to reach the end. But. I still did. I guess it’s a testament to the author because she kept me thinking...this idiocy has to be an act, right? C’mon. But. It really wasn’t. It was funny in places and a good enough read, but I’ll never pick up this series again.
One of the BEST books I’ve read this year! Any year!
I normally don’t do a lot of reviews. This book though, I just had to! It’ll make you laugh, growl with frustration, cry, and have more feels than you ever expected reading a book. I got into the neighborhoods, the worlds, the way she wrote her words as if they were going to sing right off the pages. The characters though, they came to life and you could feel their emotions as if you were in the book yourself. I think I need a pet...or a Dragon!
I would say the first two/three books were very good. But after that it just gets repetitive. As a adult I could not get behind the innocence of it. I've seen pg movies with more sexual content. It would not be a issue IF it was not a constant topic. I've never in my life meet someone with as much restraint as the characters in this book. I think it would be a great read for a teen fighting her own desires. Anyone with more experience would be left frustrated. After the third book, I forced myself to finish the series.
Witches vs mages and love vs hurt. Penny goes to Rosewood to meet and marry a mage before her 18 th birthday. If she doesn't, her mother will die. She is a witch with no magic, has a dual personality and is cursed. Her father is a darksider, her mother a famous assassin. Her boyfriend, a rich notorious rake and tourney fighter and the green mage. The intrigue and the convoluted stories of the characters and the world's involved is fascinating !! I couldn't put it down
A story of love and relationships wrapped up with wymsie and violence. 2000+ pages of 'does he love me' yet beautifully written and paced so you never want to put it down. The created universe and the characters invite us in warmly. However this is not five books dont even think about buying them individually they end arbitrarily the only conclusion is in book five. Why did everyone hate Lester?
I’m with the others. I don’t even know what I just read. I loved the characters, especially Penny. But the world building was so lacking and confusing. It’s supposed to be a series as far as I can tell, but it felt like I should have had way more background. It wasn’t really till the last 2% that I felt like I had any kind of understanding as to what was going on, but it still felt unresolved.
I really enjoyed this series. I didn't want to sleep, they were so good! I agree with others that you didn't know at first what was going on. But as the books continue you get more details. I will definitely check out her other work and hope she continues with books as. good as these!
The books starts of crazy took a while to unravel the story but once you start getting used to the plot you're absorbed into the lives of the characters. Thank you Juliann this was one of the strangest books I've ever read but oddly addictive. Not my normal genre but you outdid yourself. Excellent books. I highly recommend. Utterly Pitch Perfect :@)
Penny Lane is a witch who must be married by the time she is18. Drake is a mage who is pursued by all the witches in the school. Love, misunderstanding, conflict, protection, and mages who are drawn like bears to honey ensue. I like the action, romance, humor, and emotional dithering. My attention was riveted even though I binge read the entire series.
I've stayed up late multiple nights reading this series. There are so many secrets and reveals until the very end, and the tonal shifts between the characters in their different roles are delightfully dizzying. I love everything about this world of Dayside and Darkside and I can't wait to read the next series!
Initially when I started the book series I was a bit confused and wasn’t sure if I liked... fast forward a few chapters and I was fully sucked into this series. I couldn’t put it down and I didn’t want it to end.
I absolutely adored Penny and Drake! They were so ridiculously sweet and loveable! This series was wonderfully written! I was hooked from beginning to end. I definitely recommend reading this!
I absolutely loved this book. I read all the time and I couldn’t put it down. I would love another book or story maybe to get Oscar and Vinny together and Whitley and Ian.
I had read Darkly Sweet some time ago and was wanting to read the rest of the series. I started kindle unlimited and discovered the whole series! So glad I did, I loved the whimsical nature of the story. I hope to see more of Penny and her mages.
This series had me hooked from the beginning. It was strange, beautiful, violent, yet wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed every word of it and wish it was on audiobook because it would be fabulous. Highly recommend!
I don’t think I did anything but read, eat and sleep for days, until I finished the entire box set! It’s amazing! It sucks you in, with all the bad stuff, good stuff, wicked stuff, and wickedly wonderful characters! Awesome!
Cons, needs editing for typing and grammatical errors. Massive Pros, the most fun I've had reading in a very long time. Would be awesome on screen. Loved all the characters and mystery. Bravo.
Twists and turns leading to expected and unexpected places characters, changing, and developing until you fall in love with everybody except, of course the villains, whom we dearly love to loath! Fun fun series.
I loved this series. I found the MC interesting as she attempted to socialize with her peers and being completely out of her depth. I laughed and cried, and this book series has help make quarantine more enjoyable by taking me to a different place.
Ever scratch your head and wonder WTH did I just read and why did I continue to the end?? I’m honestly not sure what I read, what the plot was really about and who were the bad guys? I kinda just went along with it and the ending was a HEA, but damn I felt like it was a acid trip getting there. However I did read all five of the books in this box set so kudos for that.
