Daniel Elias had nearly looks, money, work he loved, and women falling all over him. And he had a unique reputation. Women would marry their husbands after he broke up with them. This was fine with Daniel because he had no desire to get serious with any woman—that was, until he met a young woman at a charity ball; one unlike any he had ever met. Melanie Bellin didn’t think she belonged at the society Drums and Dolls Ball, but she went anyway to try and raise money for her service dog program. With her predatory rich neighbor looking to buy and take over her property, she needed all the money she could get to defend against his legal attacks. She didn’t count on getting in the middle of a break-up between the very sexy Daniel Elias and his girlfriend of the month, Delany Vander. But Delany wasn’t going to give Daniel up easily, even though it was clear their relationship was over and Daniel already had his sights set on Melanie. But Melanie was not even remotely interested in a relationship, and she did not want to be a rebound. Plus, she didn’t want a player like Daniel, did she? No matter how good he looked and how charming he could be.
It is a delightful story with a lot of witticism. But there is more than witty remarks, quips and smart comebacks, there are challenges and learning to trust to reach the HEA. The characters are well portrayed.
Daniel, a lawyer with his own company, and who is considered a player; and by some a teaser. His record for dating a woman has been three months. The latest is Delany and he is trying to end it with her. He has come to realize that Delany, like those before her, is everything that would make a great society wife: culture, class, beauty, social amiability and intelligence. They all also lacked the same thing: “depth to their soul.”
Delany, is also selfish, self-centered, calculating, devious, conniving, and, manipulative. She refuses to give up the perks she’d gain marrying Daniel.
Melanie trains dogs for returning Vets who suffered from PTSD. She had inherited the kennel and the house from her father. But both were mortgage to pay for her father’s hospital bills.
Carter Vander, a neighbor who breed Tibetan mastiffs in his kennel, started making offers to buy the kennel and house as soon as Melanie’s father died. Each time she refused he upped his game to making threats that he has the money and power (social) to make her sell. Yea, a real nice guy.
Melanie is pressed to attend a fund raising event to raise funds for her program by her friend Tess. This is were Daniel meets Melanie, an event hosted by his parents that help raise money for good causes. He learns Melanie trains service dogs for veterans. Daniel introduces her to his father who wants her to tell him about it. This is also when she gets on the wrong side of Delany - even though she barely talks to Daniel.
There are several “Murphy moment” (if it can go wrong I will) that will bring a smile and chuckle as you go with Daniel and Melanie to their HEA.
What did many of the women end up doing after Daniel broke up with them? What is a teaser stallion? Who was Delany’s cousin? What manipulation did Vander do that would mess up Melanie’s life? Who is Roy? What did Daniel's dad do?
Daniel Elias: Arrogant……..check Handsome…..check Successful…..check
Daniel Elias is all of the above and more. No way is he going to get emotionally involved with a woman. Oh, and did I mention he’s filthy rich with ‘old money’ as well as ‘earned’ money?
Delaney Carter: Drama Queen….…....check Fake…………………..check Poor Little Rich Girl….check
Delaney does whatever it takes to get what she wants. She’s conniving, manipulative and now a woman scorned…. watch out!
Melanie is as bullheaded as they come and forms opinions quickly.. But she has a heart of gold. She fights for what she thinks is right and doesn’t know what the words ‘back down’ mean. She’s quick on her feet and loyal to a fault.
So can you even imagine what happens when Daniel ‘drops’ Delany in the middle of a fancy charity ball? You guessed it…. fireworks….. and not the pretty, celebratory kind. Delaney’s claws come out and Melanie gets caught in the crossfire. Of course someone as stubborn as Melanie always will fight for the ‘underdog’, even if that ‘underdog’ is rich, successful and deemed out of her league. Just ask Delaney . Mel's mouth is like a spigot … she spews out retorts and doesn’t see the damage done until it’s too late.
If you want to be entertained with some feral cat fights, middle class taking on the elite, or just plain enjoy a quick, clean read loaded with humor and duplicity, you’ll enjoy Teaser. And, last but not least, the title is very apropos. This book is a real TEASER, just like Daniel.
Melanie raises dogs at the kennel where she lives to be service animals to returning vets and ones with PTSD. Her neighbor has been after her to sell her kennel, house and land to him since her father died. He’s went so far as to threaten her. Daniel is a rich lawyer and playboy with a lot of women in his past. He’s a love them and leave them guy but they usually find their husbands soon after their break up. His current girlfriend is Delaney but he wants her gone. She wants the power and position that she’ll have being with him. There is a fund raiser for different charities held by Daniels family and he meets Melanie and finds out she is raising money for service dogs for vets. He takes her to his father to talk about this. He gets into an altercation with Delaney and ends up kissing Melanie. Delaney takes this as an act of war. She’s cousins with Melanie’s neighbor. Melanie walks away but Daniel starts pursuing her. She knows his reputation but there are funny moments as he tries different ways to change her mind. This book was a joy to read! I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book.
Good girl next door with a spirit to be of help to veterans or anyone who is in need/versus the shallow rich flawlessly beautiful pouting get her man anyway possible and don’t let anyone get in the way kinda girl. And then there is the man who loves beautiful women, until he can’t tolerate their shallow nature and wonders why or what did he find attractive in this kind of girl, kind of guy, you know the player type who doesn’t know how to love. These are the players can a good girl find love with a bad boy player? Or will the shallow girl triumph? I loved this story...I’m not giving anything away ....this is a great short story really great characters and a kinda refreshing plot. I could not put it down . Loved it.I was given this in a free book giveaway and I voluntarily leave this review.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book. What a delightful romance! It was a shorter novel, I read it in a couple of hours, but it was definitely not short on heartwarming romance. The characters were all authentic and engaging - even the secondary characters. I fell in love with Daniel and Melanie. They are from two different worlds but when they meet something clicks and sparks fly. The romance builds slowly but steadily and the story flows well. The storyline was solid and full of drama, excitement, suspense - and some humour for good measure. I just wish it had been longer - I would have liked to read more about them and their courtship. Fantastic read!
Absolutely hilarious! I loved the fact that this book is based on the premise that one of the main characters, Melanie, trains dogs for soldiers with PTSD and for people with disabilities. That's one strong woman! I love the break up scene and the court scene as well as the proposal scene. I don't know which one I like best. Adele Masters is an amazing and excellent author and this book really shows off her talent. You'll want to read this book over and over again. You'll truly enjoy it.
This was a great romance. Melanie and we were likable characters that had great chemistry. The story was fast paced, well written with an entertaining storyline. The story had drama, twists, romance and love. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend to anyone who enjoys reading contemporary romance. I read this book through kindle unlimited.
The only complaint I have about this story is it’s too short! The MC, Daniel, is handsome, rich and charming. Unfortunately, he’s a cad, dating women then tossing them aside, until he meets his match in a woman who knows his reputation and wants nothing to do with him. Let the games begin!
Really enjoyed this short story, it has a incredibly good storyline too! The only complaint was we don't find out what happens to the villain and his plans to take over her land!
