Bec Darden was a high-powered attorney who had spent her entire adult life building a fearsome reputation both in the courtroom and the boardroom.
But once upon a time, she was also a naïve and romantic—aka idiotic—soul who’d married her high school sweetheart on a whim after graduating. He’d been weeks away from deployment and she’d been heading off to college in the fall.
No surprise, her marriage had been short-lived.
Explosive. Miserable. And incredibly, incredibly short-lived.
But now Luke Pearson was back in her life and with the worst possible news. Her marriage, the one she’d almost immediately regretted, and the subsequent divorce she’d paid through the teeth for in college by waiting tables, picking up extra shifts, and basically not sleeping hadn’t happened.
As in she was still freaking married.
Luke had been sexy in high school, but he was even hotter as a grown man and his reappearance in her life hadn’t done anything to dampen the attraction she felt for him.
But Bec had already learned that sex wasn’t everything. One broken heart was enough, and she wasn’t in the market to give Luke another chance at shattering her all over again. He needed to sign the divorce papers she’d drafted and leave her to her life.
Except . . . what did they say about best laid plans?
USA Today bestselling author, Elise Faber, loves chocolate, Star Wars, and hockey (the order depending on the day and how well her team—the Sharks!—are playing). Bad Divorce is meant to be novella. Since this is a short story, Miss Faber done a lot telling instead of showing. The writing is choppy but still edible.
A false divorce is not popular trope in romance. Usually ,I picked up this trope on rom com. Bad Divorce has some humor but it is more clean romance. Not enough chemistry.
sometimes i feel like it’s too much to ask for a heartbreaking, emotional, unique, AND interesting book about a broken marriage. instead, they’re all exactly the same. same plot points. same character dynamics. same amount of time separated. same EVERYTHING.
my main complaint is: they didn’t speak for A DECADE, but they’re still in love. they kiss ONCE and all of a sudden everything comes flooding back and the ice around becky’s heart cracks instantly. you can’t convince me anyone would still love their ex spouse after being separated for ten years, let alone half of that.
also, this is written in the third person but still has chapter headings with their names. why? literally why?
Why put the characters name if your going to narrate. Third person is not my jam. Next is this. I look for this in second chances and then I skip. Cause she’s it for you but like 10 years pass and you now come looking for her. Nah don’t buy it.
“Not his former fiancée (and the reason he’d discovered he was still married to one Rebecca Darden), not the string of girlfriends and one-night stands from the last ten years.”
“Becky was it for him, and he’d been a fool to try to pretend otherwise.”
Why Billionaires? I am kinda sick of all the BS associated with books with that moniker attached to their titles. It's old and frankly, pretty passer.
I didn't read the other's preceding this one. I just randomly chose this one. I don't think I've read this author before either.
Book was passable. Well written. good back story. But wrapped itself too fast and too easily in my opinion. Kept waiting for the OW dram to rear it's head, but it never did. Plus the heroine was supposed to be this hard ass who's life and emotions were on lockdown. Let's just say it didn't take much for the hero to get in her pants after a 10 year absence and a string of other questionable dalliances with OW.
Furthermore, this book revolves around a group of successful besties who spend an awful lot of time chatting. Pages and pages and pages of them rehashing previous events. Though heartwarming, it got annoying and sometimes felt like filler.
I have been waiting since the first book in the series for the story of Bec, the fearless and badass lawyer. But her mini-story fell short of expectations, as she easily accepted an ex-husband who found out he was still married and wanted a second chance when he was engaged to another woman. All the ease and focus on Daddy's issues instead of rebuilding a healthy relationship made this novel not very believable for me.
Aside from the enticing epilogues, without a doubt, what hooked me on this series was the desire to know the story of Abby's friends, but I have to be realistic and stop here in the series.
Bec and Luke were high school sweethearts who believed that their love would be able to overcome anything however they soon found out they were ill equipped to handle the obstacles that life threw at them and their marriage was short and not so sweet.
Ten years later Luke is about to marry another woman when he finds out that his divorce from Bec was never finalized. Instead of regretting why it never happened he begins to look it as a sign that they belong together, and he wants a second the chance but convincing Bec may not be so easy.
The connection and chemistry between them is stronger than ever but if they are going to have a future together they must work through the mistakes and pain of the past and realize that they complete each other and are much happier together than apart.
Elise Faber's Bad Divorce is a 2nd Chance at love delight. It's set in modern day, the plot is contemporary and the main characters of Luke and Bec will have you rooting for them. Theirs was a love that started too soon and lost before they could hold on tight and realize what would be lost. Fast forward 10 years later and Luke is back, ready to fight for a 2nd chance but Bec isn't so forgiving. This is a deliciously tempting, unique and exciting story that hit all the right spots with me- 2nd chance at love, passion, swoon-worthy hero, fiery heroine, great secondary characters, awesome plot and steamy moments to complement the story. This is a great addition to the series. Luke and Bec will have you rooting for their HEA.
Bad Divorce (The Billionaires Club) by Elise Faber
Teenage heartbreak finds a second chance at forever. Bad Divorce is the story of young love facing adult sized problems. Bec and Luke love hard, but implode rather quickly. Fast forward ten years and the naivety has worn off, yet heartache still haunts their everyday lives. Life throws a twist when the problems of the past provide a chance for a future. The drama never ends. The pain runs deep and there are secrets constantly being revealed. Faber continues to mesmerize with complicated emotions and realistic situations. Love is not always beautiful, however it's in the ugly moments that strength finds it's footing. Deeply, soulful romance.
This was an okay read. A pretty quick and easy read with nothing much going on and completely on the lowest side on the angst scale. There is nothing for me to rave about this book.
My only problem with this book was the writing style. When the story is written in third person poi t of view, what was the need to put the character names in the subheadings?
2 Stars!

It's a good story. Couple reunited when they discover their divorce didn't go through properly. I'm not a fan of internal banter and the heroine does this quite a bit, esp at the start. They get together fairly quickly. Secondary characters for future books in series and updates of previous characters in series.
No intimate scenes with anyone other than the Hero and heroine.
During 10 year separation, when they though they were divorced. Hero thinking on women and how they compare to the heroine "Not his former fiancée (and the reason he’d discovered he was still married to one Rebecca Darden), not the string of girlfriends and one-night stands from the last ten years." No details about the heroine but she is absorbed with work.
They broke up as he was unable to cope with her success. HEA. Dual POV.
I got a little confused by this book - like "who is Rachael"? But she's Heather's assistant but it didn't read like that in Racheal's book only I must've read it ... I thought. But nope - just checked. I was right; there's a crossover between these things and the hockey books. HAH! FIGURED IT OUT!
Ok so I'm not ENTIRELY entirely losing my mind.
Anyway. Bec and Luke. It's a little funny because usually I avoid lawyer stories like the plague - or even lawyer characters. But I really liked Bec from the first book ... and I figured it'd be Luke in pursuit - and I'm a sucker for smitten heroes. Here's the thing though - it ... didn't so much read that way to me? Like - sure Luke shows up. And he clearly KNOWS her - what with the code passwords he constantly guesses.
but like - her life had stalled I guess 10 years ago when she thought they were divorced. And like - my dude. WHEN did he figure out he was still in love with her? Like - was he engaged just recently and found out? Had he been sitting on that information?
It was just ... this book wasn't that memorable to me? Like that stuff *must* have been addressed... right? [Right?!]
I love the friends meetings - kinda wish the guys had had a bigger cameo - they seem to be a fun group.
I almost actually kinda like Bec's dad is/was still such a giant fucking asshole. Like of course I don't LIKE that for her - poor thing - but I liked that this wasn't uber disney and everything works out perfectly. Especially considering how - yeah easy it is once Luke and Bec are reunited.
I also felt there was a lot of series bait with Sera - like obviously she's been in the series from the start. Is kinda the reason things are happening in book 1 page 1 - but it was different.
Bec Darden met the love of her life in high school, Luke Pearson was everything she wanted, the man who held the key to her future. But somewhere along the line life got in the way, they started to want different things, and it drove a little wedge between them. Which ultimately caused them to go their separate ways... but their undying love is about to reunite them!
Ten years have passed now, and all this time they thought they have been free to move on with someone new... but when Luke tries he soon learns that their divorce was never finalized. Which means he still has a shot to make her see they belong together... and rectify the wrongs of their past.
Bad Divorce is a story about a couple who had everything they could want, and then in a blink of an eye it was gone. They were so busy trying to make their dreams come that in the process of making it happen they lost sight of what was important, their love for one another. But a little mishap at the court house is about to bring these two love birds back into one another lives, but they both have a lot of hurt to work through first, before they can embrace their second chance. I absolutely loved this story, it was a beautifully crafted second chance story that was rich with feeling, and dripping with white hot romance... these two set the pages on fire!! Highly recommend you get your hands on this one, the words are heartfelt and humorous, and the steamy moments will leave you blushing... it's truly a romance readers perfect literary escape!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest opinion.
If you’re looking for an easy and sexy, second chance to get it right romance with characters you will root for from page one … here you go. Go forth and enjoy!
As you know from the synopsis of the book (which btw I think it is way too much information lol #twitchy), high school sweethearts jump to marriage just to find themselves divorced in a blink. Ten years later and a whole of growing up later, they find themselves not legally divorced at all.
Let the games begin …
If they were older at the time of the divorce, I would be inclined to be twitchy that none followed up to make sure paperwork was filled but because they were really young when it happened, the storyline fit perfectly and was believable. So from the start, I was a very happy reader! And my happiness continued until the very last word!
I loved the comeback meet cute (I don’t know how else to word it LOL). When Luke comes back into Bec’s life, he challenges her, and it was fun and cute and sexy and kinda romantic. Their spark throughout the story was so damn captivating to read. I just couldn’t get enough of them and I had a huge smile on my face and my heart was full to the brim. These two made it easy to like them. They were real and their story was realistic.
This is my first read by Elise Faber but I’ve bought the previous 4 books in this series already and hope to binge those really soon! I really enjoyed her voice and style!
Luke and Becky were high school and college sweethearts. They were so in love that they even got married, secretly. A decade later, just when Bec believes she has everything she wants, except for a man (she insists she doesn't have time or the desire to have a man), she finds Luke asleep in front of her front door. He has news that shocks her; they are still legally married. He asks for one kiss. If she can honestly tell him after the kiss that she felt nothing, he would leave her alone. If she can't, he gets ten dates to try to prove they belong together. I really liked the character of Luke. He was real, honest, and admitted his faults. He told her that he never really moved on from her and was willing to be vulnerable and patient while Becky tried to come to terms with everything. Becky realizes early on, thanks to her friends, that she still has feelings for Luke, but she was hurt by things that were said in the past. She was a strong character, who never faltered in her resolve to be independent. Luke was her rock, especially when her estranged father and his secret came to light. Her dad was a horrible person, in my opinion. I really liked all the characters in this book and the plot seemed realistic and honest. I can't wait to read more in this series. I received an ARC in exchange for an honest, voluntary review.
A fun, no drama, second-chance contemporary romance that will make you feel all swoony. I really enjoy Elise Faber's writing and while this was the first book I read in this particular series, I had no trouble jumping into the fifth book in it, so it can be read as a complete standalone.
Bad Divorce was such a delightful, easy read, once I picked it up I didn't set it back down again until I was finished. Bec and Luke were destined to be together, especially since their divorce paperwork burned up leaving them unknowingly married for a decade. Once Luke becomes aware of the error, he sees it as a sign and seeks out Bec ready to win back the woman that he never should have let go in the first place.
I love the comradery of all the girls that Bec has with her girlfriends, in this day and age, women need that band of sisterhood and I love when we show positive support of each other. On another positive note, I love how the characters talk about their growth over the decade they were apart. Talking about where they made mistakes and learning from them is a communication breakdown we lack in everyday life, so I LOVED reading this so much.
What happens when you find your special someone at a young age and get married? You end up with a Bad Divorce. That's what happened with Luke and Bec "Becky". However, instead of actually getting that divorce the courthouse and all the paperwork currently processing went up in flames. I think that was the one thing I had an issue with during this entire story. You would think that Rebecca "f*****g" Darden, the bad** lawyer would have followed up and made sure that everything was taken care of. Unfortunately it took 10 years and an attempted marriage that Luke was "supposedly" thankful to be out of for them to learn that they were still married. Huh. Other than that I liked this story. I loved watching Bec become Becky. I liked Luke and his pursuit of Bec. They were good for each other. Sometimes you have to grow up before you can finally find that real HEA. My heart melted for these two. I loved that we got some more of the girls too. They really are a true and loving family for each other. Then there was that epilogue.. Sera needs her HEA!! *I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review."
Finally we have Bec's story. If you've read the Billionaire's Club series already then you know a little bit about who Bec is and the rest of the ladies in this series. If you haven't then you really need to read this series and find out all about this close group of ladies and their path to love. You will laugh out loud and swoon all at the same time. Bad Divorce is so good. It is hot and steamy, filled with loyal friendships, second chances. I love Bec. She is strong and doesn't let any man break her walls down. That is until Luke. Luke is the only one that has ever gotten through and he's back. I love how Luke learns from the past mistakes and doesn't let Bec intimidate his decisions. We finally get to see a different side of Bec when if comes to Luke. You will love them so much. The fight and the feels just totally makes this book amazing. I love this one. I couldn't put Bad Divorce down. This needs to be read along with the whole series if you haven't read them yet. Go one click these today.
I grabbed Bad Divorce from new to me author, Elisa Faber because the blurb caught my interest. I do enjoy a second chance romance, its the only type of angst I like add in a neat twist like the couple are still married because of a mix up with their divorce and I was on board.
Rebecca Darden walked away from Luke Pearson 10 years ago because she felt that she and Luke weren't on the same page with regards to life and where they wanted to their futures to be. Rebecca went on to be a highly successful lawyer with good friends and no love life. Luke went on with his life, starting a business as well as helping his family but felt the loss of his high school sweetheart. Finding out that his divorce never went through is the chance he needed to try and get Rebecca back.
This is a quick, dramaless and easy read. The focus of the story is entirely the journey of two people who drifted apart until fate finds a way to get them back together. Told between the past and how they started and the present to Luke and Bec's rekindling, this is a good beach/lazy Sunday read.
This is the first book that I have read from the writer and from this series. It was interesting, funny at times, and heart wrenching at times. Overall a very good book. Becky has moved on with her life. She is living her life the way she wants. Enjoying her career and her friends. One day she comes home to her ex being at her house with a huge surprise regarding their divorce. That is when this storyline gets very interesting. Luke had moved on also but when he was ready to move on to someone else completely he learned that it wasn't so easy after all. He will do whatever it takes to prove to Becky that he still loves her and wants to be a part of her life. I absolutely loved these two together. Luke proving to her that he is worth the risk is wonderful to read about. This was a great storyline from beginning to end. I cant wait to read more from this series. Elise gained a fan with this one.
Reviewed on behalf of 3 Degrees of Fiction book blog. Every time I pick up an Elise Faber book I wonder why I take so long between reading her novels. The blurb to this book really hooked me in. And after reading the very last word I was so happy that I read this book. Bec and Luke fell in love when they were extremely young. Both I guess matured at different rates and their marriage was short lived. Or so they thought. I loved Luke in this book. He was my favorite character. I liked how he decided he needed to win Bec back and the way he went about that was beautiful to read. I also liked that there wasn’t any major conflict between the pair. Don’t get me wrong I do enjoy that in my romance novels but to not have it every now and then is great. I can’t wait to read Sera’s story. The small taste at the end of this book has me wanting to read it now.
I received a review copy of this book before release for an honest review.
This is Bec's story. She is the single lawyer in a group of close friends. She is also a workaholic. One day she comes home from work and discovers her ex, Luke on her doorstep. Luke was her husband and her boyfriend in high school and college and they even married until the things he said he loved about her he also started criticizing and that's how they ended up divorced.
Now years later he is back and he finds out they never divorced and he is ready to be all in with Beck but first he has to earn his 2nd chance. I loved how strong a woman Beck is but also how sweet a and awesome she is. She really makes him work for it.
This is a new favorite for me in this series. It easily stands alone but it also brings back the other women from the other books in the series and I loved seeing them again.
I thoroughly enjoyed this witty, refreshing, second chance romance. There are great dynamics between the characters and a lot of chemistry, even though they try to ignore it. The characters are realistic, likable and I loved their entertaining interactions together.
Bec, an attorney lives and breathes her job. She is successful, decisive, smart, sassy and proud of her reputation. Yet, she feels something missing from her life.
Luke, her ex husband shows up out of the blue and shakes up her life. They were madly in love but also young and stupid. They made mistakes and ended up getting divorced, or did they. They are now thrown together again when they discover they are still married. Luke is willing to do whatever it takes to get back together again. They still care about each other but are also hurt.
A second chance romance for Bec and Luke. Bec is a workaholic loving the thrill of winning a case as a lawyer, apart from work and her girlfriends she doesn’t have much of a life. Luke goes to the court house to get their divorce papers only to find due to a fire they never actually got filed. Although 10years later he realises this is a good thing and he never should have let Bec walk out of his life, he was young, and foolish. Can they both right all the wrongs and own up to their misgivings and move forward ? A good read, not mega long. I love Becs relationship with her girlfriends, their funny and sassy and there for each other thru everything. Looking forward to Sara story after getting a short glimpse of it at the end of this book
Ten years is a long time. Long enough to move on from your first love, and get married to someone else. Yet, when Luke Pearson attempts to do so, he finds out the woman he thought was his ex-wife is still legally married to him. He also realises that he's still very much in love with her... And that he needs her to know, and give him a second chance.
Bec Darden really loved Luke Pearson. When he left, it hurt and she resolved to hate him forever. Yet, when he shows up, asking for another try, she finds herself accepting, knowing he's had her heart all along.
I loved this book. It was sweet, with heat, and lots of heartwarming, emotional moments. It's a really well-written second chance romance. I recommend it.
I voluntarily read & reviewed an ARC of this book.
—>>> Luke Pearson had an epiphany one day, one which led him back to the doorstep of the one woman he could not forget, the one woman he still loved. The one it turns out he was STILL married to. Now that he clearly knows what he wants, he would be stupendously lucky to even get a second chance with his fierce and amazing Becky, the very same woman he had shamefully pushed away and not surprisingly, she left him to study Harvard Law. NOW is the time to step up to be the man he wanted to be for her.
A great read and I am very much looking forward to reading Sera’s story next, which we got a taste of at the end of this book. I also have the first three books of this series of Bec’s fabulously supportive friends now in my TBR list!
I enjoyed it. I really like how in this series Elise Faber focuses on different parts of their lives. Each one of the sextants come from different backgrounds in a sense but hard work brought them success. This one focuses on Bec and Luke. Bec is a very successful attorney and she finds out the court house where the divorce was filed burned down before it was processed. She thought she was a single woman for 10 years and Luke was engaged when he found out he was sti technically married. It is a shorter story, but it was more of a mental connection rather than going into all the sex. Yes there was steamy sex, but when Becs father falls ill her world starts to spin faster than when Luke stepped back into her life.
