Sangen for livet #1-3

Le Chant pour celui qui désire vivre

Rate this book

This book is like no other, the way it portrays the inuit people is incredibly captivating to read. Even if it often doesn't even feel like a story, the characters feel so real. By this I mean in the way that they act, the *protagonists* are at one point nice and kind people, then the next they completely umprompted do the most fucked up and horrific things. It is captivating to read, and sometimes you just have to laugh at the absurdity of it all. Especially since all these actions are never questioned by any of the characters, it is simply the way of things. In fact all questions of modern morality are thrown out the window. Rape is barely even a concept, female rights are a thing only at the behest of their husband/provider. Yet the portrayal of a transwoman shows how this isn't just a savage culture, they accept people for who they are, and love and protect eachother.

The spirituality too is interesting to read, whilst it might seem stupid to modern readers, I found the portrayal respectul and authentic (to my limited knowledge). I also really like how this is tied into the curiosity of the characters, they want to learn about the world and understand it. Even if they do it so very differently

However the book only barely scratches 5 stars from me, as it does drag a bit out at times. Though those times never last too long, the book is generally incredibly easy to read.

Riel kan andet end de morsomme skrøner. Her begår han en af de smukkeste fortællinger jeg har læst.

I just skimmed through the next few chapters and yeah I'm not putting myself through this. Many rape scenes. Life's too short I'll read other books, bye.
