For the record, I don't drag people to Hades. I'm not a guardian of the Underworld. And I'm not an evil monster. I'm just... a shifter who happens to control birds. Dangerous? Yes. A monster? No.
Unfortunately, most people disagree with me. For some stupid reason.
So, it's no surprise when monster hunters, the stoic gargoyles themselves, track me down. What is a surprise? The gargoyles are kind of sexy.
But unfortunately, they haven't kidnapped me for bedroom fun. They want to use my abilities to stop a curse and save a town. Easy, right? It's actually pretty damn hard. And then there's the other thing, I'm starting to think after my long life this little adventure might just be the thing that kills.
CELAENO'S FATE is a reverse harem romance with a lot of action, steam, and adventure. It's also a #whychoose romance, meaning the heroine doesn't need to choose between her love interests. (This was previously published in Shifting Destiny but includes a ton of bonus scenes, including POV scenes from all the gargoyles!)

Book three of the monsters and gargoyles series is heart wrenchingly good. I was totally in this book and could not put it down. You have Celaeno who is a harpy and has been hunted by the monster hunters. Her life changes one day when he emotions get the best of her. Grey, Ender and Journey have captured her. I think the way it happened was harsh but Grey only sees in black and white. They do it because they need her help or to see if she is the cause of some unexplained situations in a town called Cherish. However, the guys don't expect to meet this spitfire of a woman who challenges their way of thinking about monsters. Grey being the hardest to sway due to his past will be a challenge. Journey knows something but isn't saying. Then you get a bombed drop on you in the middle of the book that you don't see it coming. You will have a love/hate relationship with some characters and then an all out hate for someone else. Be prepared to be shocked when you read this book. I can't wait to see what happens next.
This was a very good read only downside I have is I have noticed a few repeats from previous stories but it's not so bad it takes away from the story I enjoyed it
Updated version of the short story. This is a fun series of stand alone books set in the same world with an over arching plot to loosely tie them together. Definitely worth reading.
Journey, Grey and Ender are sent to kill a harpy monster named Celaeno. She came shifter into a raven. She also can control birds with just a thought. The birds can also feel her emotions because of the connection. Grey is the rough, tough, grumpy gargoyle that has issues with "monster" women. One killed his best friend. The other two follow him but seem kind and willing to see that things told to them by the Elite aren't always truth. These three are sent to catch her, used her to save a town that is being attacked by birds then kill her. Not everything foes as planned.
I love this series of Monsters and Gargoyles. It is perfect for a quick and steamy read on a lazy afternoon. I enjoy the modern twist to ancient myths involving female monsters. The stereotyping and blind hatred so closely resembles real life and seeing the outcome be positive and full of love and acceptance is uplifting to read.
Like I said, this book is a quick read so things happen fast but nothing ever felt skipped over or lacking in plot development. The little bit of information we read about in regards to the Elite and his plan for his Gargoyles and the monsters adds enough intrigue to have me anxious to read the next book. I highly recommend this series for anyone wanting a quick steamy RH read.
I live this series so much! Celaeno is another sympathetic "monster" who has been ruined by rumours and tragedy, which is something almost anyone can relate to. I will say that each group of gargoyles in the series have been very similar, and would like to see some new personalities in future books. But I like that one had the initial prejudice from the death of a family member by a monster we know, that he had to work through in order to trust Celaeno. I also LOVE the teases of a wider plot stretching over each book and affecting all the monsters we've grown to love so far. Can't wait for Cerberus' book next!!
I have loved all of these stories that have shed new light on the lives of the monsters we were taught to fear as kids. No one ever stops to think about their pasts and what they could have been through. This book brought out so many emotions in me and I felt my heart breaking for Celaeno. I can’t wait to read Cerberus’ story, as Cerberus is a favorite “monster” of mine.
It was nice reading about the 'monsters' from their (her) perspective. I really enjoyed the inner conflicts of the gargoyles, however, plotwise this book lacked something. The grand fight with the witch was too easy in my opinion. I wanted more complexity and hidden layers in the plot.
Still this was a nice one with decent characters and relationship building.
I read this as part of Monsters and Gargoyles: (Books 1-3): A Paranormal Reverse Harem Box Set (Monsters and Gargoyles Boxset Book 1), an excellent way to get it. The other stories are also exciting. Pay attention to the point of view at the beginning of chapters. This is a hunted-and-hunters-to-lovers RH story. Thought of as a monster, a cruel harpy, with the body of a bird and the face of a woman, without kindness or empathy, but Celaeno is completely misunderstood, a victim of legends and tales. Her emotions affect birds; anger will make them attack. She is captured by Grey, Journey, and Ender, three gargoyles, who are on a mission to help people attacked by birds. Grey is the "bad cop" who believes the worst of her despite being attracted, while Journey and Ender have trouble seeing her as a monster. Elite Edgar has a devious plan to kill all the female monsters after they have given birth. He will use their progeny to train into his personal army. Journey is the first to yield to the mutual attraction; then Grey is quickly followed by Ender and Journey as they find her naked in a bed. A final confrontation with an evil witch, and the guys are convinced Celaeno is not a monster, but their woman to be cherished and protected.
1. The entire book up is both sides whinging about the other. In escalating tones of "I need to kill her/but she turns me on" and "they said they'd kill me/but I'm falling for them." It was very stockholm-y, and the fact that it dragged on for 80+% of the book was just overdone. The author's attempt at building sexual or emotional tension was repetitive and unconvincing at best.
2. The author wrote themselves into corners and then immediately out of them without a sense of real growth or resolution. No spoilers, but there's an encounter with someone who goes from "You're the weakest one of us!" To "You were always the strongest of us!" in less than two Kindle pages. It gave the FMC a distinctive Mary Sue vibe, which may work for some, but it didn't impress me.
Lastly, a nitpick - get a thesaurus. Look up alternate words online. On one page, the word "tiny" was said three times about various objects. In the beginning there was continual mentions about her auburn hair and even later someone had auburn eyes. There are lots of descriptors, and the author didn't seem to bother to look for them.
I am a little confused on how I want to rate this book. I gave the other two 5 stars. This book though has me thinking... The story was better, there was more world building and the plot was great. There were even elements of mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat. Overall this book might be the best out of the three... so why am I confused? I was looking forward to the over the top, silly sex scenes. Oh well, I am curious to see if the rest of the series will be as steamy as the previous two or if this book was just limited to one sex scene due to the character and plot line.
Despite me missing the fun steamy scenes, Lacey Carter Anderson has pushed her way up to the top of my autobuy list. Thank you Lacey for writing these fun novels.
These monsters and gargoyles stories are amazing. Taking Greek mythology and putting an amazing spin on it. What was once thought as monsters has changed for the gargoyles. Hunting the monsters has definitely changed for them. This group of three gargoyles must find their monster, force her to stop a town being terrorized by birds and then kill her. But who is really the monster? At times I believe it is the hunters. The story is a great adventure as we learn each of the characters. This time the harpy isn’t what you think. I loved it all and can’t wait for the next one. So much action, adventure and romance.
This was a short story in the “Shifting Destiny” Anthology. This was a great story in that book. Now that it has been turned into a full story, it's fantastic! Calaeno is a misunderstood woman/monster. The gargoyles Grey, Ender, and Journey are unusual in their way. This storyline came with some twists I didn't even think about. It gives us a little more insight into the Elites. I found that to be very intriguing. Absolutely love this series! •••••• I highly recommend this book! •••••• ~~ I have Kindle Unlimited, and I used that service to read this book. ~~
5 awesome stars Oh boy, what a book. I loved it from the beginning . Celaeno is so funny and charming, I really liked her personality even though she has been kidnapped she doesn't let that stop her from saying what in her mind, the twist in the book was unexpected and took me by a surprise, alot of things has surprised me and made me happy, I was not expecting to love this book more than the second but it was amazing, I'm so exited to read the next book because every time I read about Lamia and Cerberus I wished to know more about their stories. This series has become one of my favorite, hopefully I won't end up hating Hades because I really loved him in another book.
oh no, I’ve got some major foreshadowing thoughts for the future of this series! I don’t want to ruin it for everyone who likes to read reviews ahead of a book, but I will just say if you liked Greek mythology growing up and like reading stories about them as well as RH then this is the series of standalones for u! Each book is indeed a standalone but there are some bits and pieces from the others tied into one or another after the first! I still think they can be read separately if you wanted, but I personally suggest you read each of them because this is my third and I’m only growing more obsessed with them and the story line at its base!
No spoilers of any kind included! So this is all I’m going to say about this book and that is I absolutely loved it! Heck I love the whole series of Monsters and Gargoyles and I can not wait until the next book in this series is written! Lacey Carter Andersen is an amazing story weaving genius when it comes to her books. She always knows how to blend action with the steam perfectly! So yes it’s going to be a big HECK FREAKIN YEAH I most definitely do recommend this book because I thought it was fantastic and I think you will too!
I read this story first in Shifting Destiny Anthology. But this rewritten longer version is something so different and same, at the same time. Ok. Then we have a “monster”, 3 gargoyles and a curse. It sound interesting already. But we have also witch, angry birds (and not the Rovio’s ones), unexpected attirance and so highly needed insight into why gargoyles are sent to hunt female “monsters”. I simply loved this story.
I love this spin on Monsters and Gargoyles. Gargoyles are taught all monsters are bad. Until, they find one that is not. What are they to do when what they've been told their whole long lives is a lie. What happens when the monster steals their hearts? Amazing story with a unique twist and some major HOTNESS. A must read, and is 3rd in series but you do not need to read the others before you read this one, but they are just as amazing!!!
So different from the last book in the series! This has been my favorite so far! The plot/story was amazing and kept me turning the page, I read the whole thing in one seating. So much for sleep! Celaeno is misunderstood and just wants to have a friend. If you've read the previous books and know about the Sanctuary, there are references to it again. You can definitely feel something building there! Can't wait to see how it all blows up!
I liked the previous two stories too, but this one I liked the best so far! It is difficult not to give the story away, but the main thing is that Celaeno is a so strong and fiery character that it really surprises me how far she can go. I loved the starting, the main plot is great, the twists are surprising, the reactions of the gargoyles too. And with this, the ending is also not something I could have predict :) Well written, easy to be pulled in fully, great read.
I like books were the men/women give up on what their society deems as black or white. In this case monsters are the enemy, even when two special cases are starting to prove them wrong in their morals. I'm looking forward to more. This book was an excellent addition to this series!
Harpies and gargoyles who would have thunk it? But it is a tale that deals with trust and love so it works beautifully. The universe is odd but skilfully created. The heros are heros the villains villainous even though its pretty monchrome it is a great story.
I have loved every book in this series so far I love the lesson that no everyone is what rumors say and that there are always two sides to a story. Everyone deserves to be loved! And I love these gargoyle and "monster" pair ups! I can't wait to get all the way through and get the underlying story of the gargoyle world!
Another amazing read from the Monsters and Gargoyles series that had me hooked from the start, it was action packed with some surprising plot twists. This was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster as Celano's story unfolded and the pasts of the Gargoyles revealed. The narration was wonderful, I love this series and can't wait for the next book. I received this book in exchange for my honest review.
Brilliant read. Everyone hates a harpy, But Celaeno is not what she seems, she is brave and kind , but that is not what everyone else see's, they just see a monster wrapped in pretty packaging. Celaeni speaks to the birds but she needs to Get involved when the birds start acting strange but more so when she is kidnapped and forced to be in the situation in the first place. Brilliant read.
Celaeno can control birds. She is called a harpy, but she's not a monster. The gargoyles sent to retrieve her believe she is. They need her help to stop a curse and save a town. No matter how hard they try, love always creeps on in.
I really enjoyed the story. It makes an important point about who the true monsters are in the world. It is well written and the author takes time to develop the characters.
