Fallen: An Enochian War Novel

Rate this book
Imprisoned from childhood. Forced to hunt his own kind.

Taught from a young age that his arcane powers were a mark of the demon inside of him, Garrett was given a choice: submit to the Sanctum and earn his redemption by hunting others like him... or refuse, and die.

The bright side? He probably won't live long enough to grow old with his regrets, anyway. But when he's forced to take a pretty new recruit out for her first day on the job, his terminal career plans go sideways fast.

Now, confronted with a startling conspiracy to end the war on demons once and for all, Garrett finds himself staring down one final choice—between the sanctity of his own spirit... and the lives of the entire planet.

With great power, comes a great big pain in the ass.

Grab your copy of FALLEN today, and prepare for a riveting thrill-ride through the dark underworld of Enochia...

Luke is a storyteller whose dreams include learning the ways of the Force, becoming a sentient robot, and maybe even one day growing up. Also, lots of zombies… Don't ask.

After studying engineering science at Penn State and neuroengineering at Drexel, Luke finally decided to throw in the towel on actually building a working Iron Man suit, opting instead to simply make things up and write them down. Boy, is he having more fun now.

When he's not holed up in his cave trying to string words together, he can often be found powerlifting, video-gaming, reading, and/or drinking the darkest, most roasty beers he can get his mitts on.

You know what? Enough about Luke. He's not that interesting. But if you'd like to say hi to him for whatever reason, he'd probably be glad to hear from you. Contact him at luke@lukermitchell.com (kind of a silly email address, right?) with questions, critiques, or just a friendly hello!

An emotionally intense and page-turning read, I was entranced from the beginning! A science fiction fantasy, wildly imaginative, thought-provoking and thematically profound.. . filled with engaging dialogue, heated passion and quality action. The story of Garrett and his life in the Sanctum, is perfectly described, the inner fight with his own demons, the misconceptions, the lies within the highest echelons, mistrust and doubt fill the everyday life of the protagonist. Fearless, vivid, and passionate – a book that gets under your skin. A great inside story of The Sanctum!
I received an early version of this book from the publisher and my review is entirely voluntary.

Garrett has not been able to use his name since his early childhood, when he was taken at an early age and imprisoned at the Sanctum. He was told that the strange powers he had were a demon within him and that he was one of the Fallen. He is now known as Two. As a Fallen agent for the Sanctum, his job is to search and find other new outbreaks of Fallen and if they are young enough and the demon hasn’t broken through, then he takes them prisoner. If not, then he is sent to battle and kill them. This is supposed to be his way of redeeming himself. If he refuses at any time, he will be killed and be replaced by the next trainee.

Many don’t live long in this job, as the powers of the demon within, overtake the mind of the Fallen, and there are always new recruits to bring in to replace them. Two is told he must take on the newest recruit, a young and pretty female and watch over her on her first job. She has been messing with his mind, by communicating mind to mind, the previous night. Fallen are never allowed to be more than two or three in any station, nor to actually have a relationship, never mind talk to each other. She is a needle in his side and starts to get him in trouble with those in charge.

He begins to see matters differently regarding the High Cleric, which makes him think about his life or death, and at first involves hunting down some of the opponents and traitors to the city. Those named as terrorists and ordered to be caught and then executed, with the city watching. This ties in with the other books in the Enochian War series and lets you see it from one of the Fallen’s point of view. The death of Carlisle and the botched execution of Haldin Raish, bring about a secret that the High Cleric has been hiding. Add in the hybrids that have been developed by those in the know of the ruling parties and surprises are coming soon.

Two’s own mind is getting confused by his feelings for the new recruit, the special notice of the High Cleric, orders to end all demons asap and to also work with these hybrids that cannot talk to them, but can communicate through telepathy. Something strange is going on, but Two is conflicted by his years of training and threats to his life from the explosive collar around his neck. Death would be welcome, but now maybe there could be something more. There could be a threat to the lives of all humans on the planet, many have gone missing already, and he must make a choice of what to do. Should he look out for himself and Six or try and work out what these strange goings on are really about.

Another fantastic book from the author. I have read every one of their books so far and can’t wait for next book in the series. Considering this was really a side story, it is a really full length book, showing you the story from another view. The role of a Seeker (Fallen) and those they are hunting, without realising how similar they actually are, is a well-hidden part of the storyline. The final discovery of the Raknoth and their hybrids, which could end up with the end of life on Enochia, is kept partly screened from the main story and you need to read the others to see how devastating their presence will be.

There is lots of action and the descriptions of the use of powers is done really well, both during the hunts, the night time chats or even the executions. Another great part of the whole that is the author’s set of books in this world scape. Two is portrayed as a ‘bad guy’ in the other book in the series and this book allows you to see another side of the story and whether he can actually be redeemed. Loved the book, loved the Enochian War and The Harvester series’ and can’t wait for more! I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

This story give us the backstory to one of the villains from the Divinity series and explains how he came to switch sides. Luke did a good job of giving some humanity to a character that you really wanted to hate. While the final result did not turn him into a shinning hero, it did make him sympathetic enough to grant him more understanding than vengeance.

Luke's ability to create well rounded characters and have them interact in a believable way certainly makes for lots of good reading.

Another treat from the author who brought us the witty and fun "HARVESTER SERIES" and ENOCHIAN WAR STORIES"..."FALLEN" is introspective and dark at times, telling the story of a world slowly being enslaved by aliens through it's religion, and the enslavement of gifted individuals, who murder those like themselves at the request of the religious elite..I found this novel page-turning,and exciting! RECOMMENDED for superior world-building entertainment!

Another great story

While not my absolute favorite of Luke Mitchell's various stories in this universe, this was still an absolute blast to read. Especially the last third or so. Holy crap. I was intrigued by the idea of seeing the events of the Enochian War series from a different perspective, but dang, if things didn't end up going sideways in ways I did NOT anticipate. Definitely looking forward to seeing what happens next!

"Fallen" is a well-written tale about Garrett, one of the characters from the Enochian War series. Luke R. Mitchell once again displays his talent for cleverly crafted character development. And there is plenty of action and thrills along the way to make for an enjoyable read!

dnf (mid ch 5 of 31).

'Two' spent too much time having the hots for the new Seeker - her cleavage, the bare skin of her legs, pulsing in his groin.

I wanted more of an actual story about the demons.

All Garrett ever knew was that the powers he had were the mark of the demon. Soon things change. Amazing story as always. Intriguing.

I loved the way Luke makes the book come alive in my mind. The ending left me hanging and wanting more from the next book.
Great mystery with demons trying to take over the world makes this book a 5 star read.
This was my second read and it was better than the first read.
