This is a beautiful book! The poems are easily within the scope of kids 5+. Little Jellybean Toe Shoes, Twilight and so many more are completely evocative, thoughtful and observant poems.
The printed illustrations fit the mood of the book wonderfully.
Give it a try, even if you’re not one of those folks who likes poetry!
Sadly I'm really not a fan of either the poetry style or the illustrative style. Sorry ladies. What really bugged me also was that about a quarter of the poems were called haikus and not a single one was actually a haiku. Too many poems had words smushed together and it got tired very quickly.
This is a collection of children's nature poetry with accompanying illustrations. The poems celebrate nature and moments from different seasons, and they have a sing-song quality that I liked and I think children would like. While some of the poems I absolutely loved, others fell flat for me. I don't know art or art history well enough to accurately describe the illustrations, but they give me old-timey vibes - like early 20th century kids books. Overall, I enjoyed the poetry, and I can see myself picking it up from time to time to re-read specific poems as the season's change.
