This is the second book I have read by William Zanzinger and it lived up to its promise. I am getting more and more intrigued by Michael St Cloud - at the moment I am not sure whether I love him or loathe him, but he is certainly not a forgettable character.

Zanzinger's writing style may not appeal to some readers, (in which case I suggest that if you don't like Filthy Night, then don't read/review the others) but I love this writing. It's hefty and intricate and full of wonderfully deep description without being verbose. I find myself sinking into the story and being drawn into St Cloud's world of cigarettes and whisky and Bonnie and bleak hopelessness.

کتاب "مرگ یک پیام آور" نوشته‌‌ی ویلیام زانزینگر تا این لحظه آخرین آزمون و خطای من در این ژانربود که هرچند با سلیقه من تا حد زیادی فاصله داشت اما به نظر آن را می توان یک رمان جنایی تمام عیار با تعریف‌های یادشده نامید. این رمان که در کنار کتابهای "زیر نور جنایت" و "شب کثیف" سه گانه‌ای را تشکیل می دهند که نوشته‌ی نویسنده‌ای بریتانیایی به نام ویلیام زانزینگر بوده و دو جلد اول آن به همت خانم سحر قدیمی ترجمه و به فارسی زبانان معرفی گردیده است. شخصیت اصلی این کتابها یک کارآگاه خصوصی به نام مایکل سن کلود است، مامور پلیس اخراج شده‌ای که همچون بسیاری از کارآگاه های رمان‌های مدرن که اغلب امریکایی هم هستند تلفیقی از ویژگی‌های مثبت و منفی است و اصطلاحاً شخصیتی خاکستری دارد و با توجه به انگلیسی بودنش به جای گشتن در خیابان‌های نیویورک، در شهر لندنِ بارانی به دنبال عدالت می گردد.

In my idea it s the best book by Zanzinger and one of the greatest thrillers l ve read recently ... St.Cloud is a strange character, no one can forget him. After three books, I don' t know him perfectly. There are a lot of questions about him and his past that the writer doesn't answer, yet l love him and the way he deals with the problems.
