A FANTASTIC JOURNEY WITH FRIENDS! When feisty witch Nicola came to the demons’ world, the first friend she made was a devil named Simon. Immediately, he took Nicola under his wing and became her guide to this exciting new place. When family drama calls Simon back home, can Nicola use her magic to repay him for all his help?
Nicola Traveling Around the Demons' World, Vol. 2, by Asaya Miyanaga, is the next book in the series. It continues the trend of being a lovely and cosy group of stories about a young witch named Nicola, and her traveling companion Simon, as they travel and explore the demon world. In this volume we meet Simon's dad, search for a mummy hand in an antique shop, and so forth. These books are lovely, heartfelt and sweet, and the world that has been built is excellent. This is really a wonderful read, and an easy recommendation for fans of sweet, simple manga.
This is SUCH a charming series, I am completely in love with this world and its creatures and determined, precious, cheeky little Nicola.
The art in this manga is so expressive, it amplifies the comedy and emotions in a way that warms my entire spirit. Nicola and Simon are a dynamic duo and a found family, loyal and supportive of one another through all their adventures. Their story arcs keep getting more and more wholesome :''')
This is definitely the book I needed during a hard week. Reading it feels like a hug from a friend. 💜
― Rating: 4 Stars ★★★★ Nicola Traveling Around The Demons' World is honestly one of the most equally adorable and funniest manga I've come across! Nicola and her demon companion Simon continue wandering and embarking on new, fun adventures wherever they go. The world is whimsical, lively alongside Nicola and Simon's banter which adds to the witty humor layered throughout this magical series!
Volume 2 continues what the first one established so well, each chapter stands alone but there's the thread of adventure connecting them together. I think compared to other fantasy manga I've read or ones already out there, this one is SO underrated.
From tracking down a buyer for a rare item, crossing a guarded bridge, visiting Simon's father and seeking out a new treasure, there's never a shortage of whimsy or adventure throughout this series. I liked that each of these chapters had their own little underlying theme or message that shines across each new experience they have. The world continues to be so eccentric and just magical.
While Nicola reads like a series of short stories, there's more to Nicola's background & family that gets explored which for me was unexpected this early on, but it establishes lots of questions for the upcoming volumes.
Simon and Nicola's dynamic continues to be funnier than ever, but you also see that they've grown closer overtime as they continue their travels together. I know this series ends at 4 volumes, but this volume specifically made me reluctant to finish it too quickly because the further I dive into this world, the harder it'll be for me to accept it'll be over soon *sobs! This is such a loveable, unique series and I'm so glad to have started it this year, its a genuine delight.
I became more familiar with the world this time around and love there's always a bit mystery surrounding it, making it all the more special as you read each chapter. Nicola's magic (being able to make a flower) is brought up again and delved into a bit more (no spoilers) but I love that this volume delved more into her past.
The art has a sketchbook quality to it that is a standout compared to other manga, making it all the more special. From the character designs, creatures, backgrounds, the art elevates the magical quality of this series. The artwork is expressive, genuinely unique that it adds that special something the world and story as a whole.
Not necessarily anything I disliked but I'd love more cohesive details connecting each place together. Aside from a map, I still struggle to see this world in a more detailed way.
Nicola Traveling Around The Demons World is a truly special manga series filled with whimsy, magic, humor and heart anyone would enjoy! This second volume has more fun adventures, background on the two standout leads and is an immersive, magical manga that is like no other!
"I may worry but I'll always believe there's no one as brave as you in the whole demons' world!"
Even more enjoyable than the first volume!
The found family vibes are SO strong in this series, and I am loving it! I was especially touched by the chapter with Simon and his dad and definitely felt myself tear up! I was also moved by the ending and what Nicola learns. <3
I think I loved all the chapters in this one because I felt myself turning pages quickly due to enjoying everything so much! I also really liked the mountain bandit because that was an inspiring twist to that chapter alone!
Oh my goodness, I adore this series to pieces!! It is amazingly different with its art (much like a sketchbook meets storybook style), the world is teeming with familiar yet still-innovative lore, the characters are fun and lively, and the episodic nature of the series still manages to be engaging and enchanting. If Studio Ghibli had ever tackled a story about a human little girl running around a demon world, this might have been close to the result.
»» A compra: Lido o vol.
Historia divertida, cuqui y emotiva 🥹
The second volume picks back up right where it left off in the precious volume. It is much more focused on Simon’s character and his own backstory. We learn that much like Nicola, he was abandoned as a small child and left to fend for his own. Simon was then adopted by his father, who taught him the ways of being a traveling merchant. His father looks like a penguin demon-thing, and he is trying to learn how to fly, but the other people in the realm make fun of him for this. Simon tries to prevent his father from learning to fly because he is embarrassed. But his father flies anyway, and Simon learns that he should not be concerned about what other people think. Nicola also does not know much about her own mother, but she meets a woman who mistakes her for her mother. The woman tells Nicola that her mother died when she was young and that she was an explorer of the Demon world and involved with the human black market, so she brought human items down into the demon realm. I thought it was so sweet that Nicola was able to discover more about her own mother through a random stranger that she meets. This is such a charming series that anyone can read and enjoy. It is such an immersive story that transports its readers to a world filled with magic and wonder. It is a quick easy read for anyone who wants to escape to a whimsical realm. These books are in the YA section of the library, but I think the audience could be younger as well.
This manga is a solid read especially children with a wild imagination as Nicola's journey in the Demon world continues as she tries to learn more about her mother and encountering fantastical beings (mostly friendly). I would recommend this to anyone who liked Howl's Moving Castle or any of the Ghibli movies as it's a really fun read. The book is in brown/grey ink and the localization was great as always.
This is swiftly becoming one of my favourite manga. Simon and Nicola are both such lovely people to spend time with and Miyanaga somehow manages to make every character who comes across the page someone I love.
This is the epitome of cozy and if you were looking to just dip your toes into manga to see if you like it this series would be one of the ones I suggest starting with.
Just like the first volume, these chapters are charming little episodic stories that capture a sense of child-like discovery. The art might not suit exploration of cities, landscapes, festivals, or crowds but that doesn’t stop Anaya Miyanaga from trying. These attempts at elaborate scenes aren’t visually impressive but they do add an intriguing atmosphere to the story.
As expected, it gets better for sure. I say it's way better than expected because I had low expectations that it couldn't be any more than a cute manga. Love it, weird and adorable. The artstyle reminds me of old animes I loved to watch, you either learn or get reminded of a valuable leason/advice.
Liked this a lot more than the first volume! There was a bit narrative substance. Anthologies (actually just now realizing that this series probably doesn’t qualify as an anthology series... but I can’t think of the correct exact definition... hmm..) can be good but they aren’t my favorite. Maybe if the stories were a little bit longer I’d like it more?
I think I preferred the first volume but this is still good and moves the story along well. We meet some more great characters including Simon's dad (I love him!). And we learn more and Nicola's mum in a very funny and round about way. I loved Bruno the swordsman. And proof not all treasures are gold and silver, sometimes it can be a water jug that you can put on your horn.
I can’t get over the beautiful, meticulously drawn panels. Add in the whimsical style and the feel good vignettes and you have the makings for a heart-warming treat during our days of self-isolation. It’s the perfect remedy!
I really enjoyed this volume. It follows a lot like the first with each chapter being a short story. This is a fun, easy, and light read. I just love the art style of this manga. It's so unique and gives the series an iver all whimsical vibe.
I love this manga it’s very chill and easy to read it are all kind off small stories but still all connected it’s a good manga to read when you just want to relax and I think the drawing are very pretty and nice it took me approximately 30 minutes to read
Nicola Traveling Around the Demons' World is such a cozy read. I like that in this volume we get to meet Simons dad and start to learn a little more of Nicola's past. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a cozy manga. It really has got me interested in the genre.
Still as good as the first book. The story continues to subtly build up an underlying plot, but still maintains its whimsical small stories. Great for all ages.
