The Temporary Hero

Rate this book
Why be credible when you can be incredible? Eight months ago, a mad scientist’s device left Reuben Conway with the superhuman abilities of Ultiman. When a flame-wielding burglar goes on a crime spree in Los Angeles, it’s up to Reuben to track him down. But, when a mysterious organization frames him for the crimes, he finds himself at the center of a scheme to destroy the city. As the terrorist plot storms toward its murderous goal, Reuben discovers that he’s been caught in a trap.
One from which no hero can escape.
The third installment in the popular Conway Report series, The Temporary Hero is a pulse-pounding ride through a noir world of secret identities, mind-boggling superpowers, desperate gambits and shadowy conspiracies that will leave fans of potboilers and superheroes screaming for more.

What do you think about action-packed superhero stories? Svolos has a compelling book series about super humans that will engulf readers into a tailspin of action. Normal people by day and superhero personas by night, you could say…sounds dreadfully tiresome and quite difficult to reel it all in, doesn’t it? What happens if you make a tiny slip about your true identity? What happens if someone is framing you for crimes that you didn't commit? Little ole you?

Reuben Conway, aka Captain Standin, has some major issues that he is dealing with right now. On one hand, he is nearly invincible now that he has Ultiman's powers, but what does that mean if he is forever having to go and save the city from those who would rather do it harm? Does he get to have a life...ever? Also, how does it feel to live forever? On the other hand, he could give up his powers now that they know how to remove them. He could go back to being a human who gets sick and most importantly--isn't bullet proof. He could go back to reporting for the Beacon the right way, without any biases stopping him--like for instance, having to report on uh...HIMSELF. But, what are the pros and cons of both sides of this story, right?! When it comes down to it, Reuben knows what he has to do but it won't be easy, especially when someone is gunning after him for a frame job. Some very powerful people are after the Angels and they have some fairly smart plans in play to get them all where they want them. Not knowing who to trust, since even some of the supposedly good guys, seem to have gone rogue, Conway must rely on the power of friendship. The Temporary Hero has to figure out how to save the day...even if it may mean that it is for the very last time.

Svolos glorifies this third installment of the Conway Series. The characters are captivating and well-developed. They all have some attributes that may have been inspired by well-known comic characters in movies and illustrations today; however, they also have uniqueness and creativity to them as well. The plot is original and the pace is nice and steady throughout the entire read. If you are reader of superheroes and paranormal fiction, you may want to pick this one up. Fair warning, once you do, you may get sucked into Reuben’s world rather quickly. We do recommend the first and second installments to be read prior to this one since it is a direct continuation and the final work within the series.

As 3njas the last two

This superhero world that Nick Svolos has created is as enjoyable as any out there. The emotional and non-hero portions are more enjoyed than the action packed portions. I look forward to reading more books im this series.
