Walking on Sea Glass is inspired by a true story - mine! Our youngest daughter recently read it and has been trying to guess which stories are "true" and which are not. I keep telling her, "It's fiction!" but she knows better. My husband, Dan, and I met under circumstances similar to Liddy and Beau's. We are grateful to family, friends, and God-all who cradled us during the dark and the amazingly bright times we experienced back then. Though there are some serious issues in the book, issues that we both had to deal with, I assure you that this story has a happy ending ... one we are living even now. (And, yes, there are plenty of fictionalized scenes too.) I hope you enjoy this labor of love <3
I really enjoyed this book. It had a little bit of everything: drama in the workplace, mystery, romance, and intrigue. I loved Liddy and Beau, and Meg. Can’t wait to see if book 2 is Meg’s story.
Beautiful love story! This first book in the series was amazing! I loved it so much. It was a beautiful story so well written. I’m on book 2 of the series. I highly recommend this author!
I listened to the audio version of the book and enjoyed it very much. The lead character had brain surgery and I myself also went through that many years ago. The description of what she was experiencing were very similar to my own experiences. I felt like the writer knew this first hand it was so well done. I liked the characters and their relationship was very sweet and caring and I was rooting for them! Thank you, Julie, for another fun read! I'd recommend this book, romance and the beach are always my favorite storylines.
(I want to put 4.5!) This was a lovely book that I easily cleared through in a week’s time. I always looked forward to winding down each evening with a handful of chapters. At times, I opened my e-reader with trepidation as I cared very much for Liddy and her prognosis. Having watched my own parents walk together through my mother’s battle with (and loss to) cancer, this book held even more emotion for me. Perhaps that is why I selected the book and found myself reading the final chapters on her birthday.
When Liddy felt fear for her future and sensed relapse in every headache or dizzy spell, I could remember those same conversations of fear in my mother. And Beau...there was a section where he speaks of his wife getting a good prognosis at one point, but his friend could detect the panic that still lied within, somehow knowing it might not be true. These are all well written scenes that truly grip the heart as they are primal in their core.
The secondary characters were all very likeable too, but I was drawn to the story most by Liddy and Beau and their witty banter.
The only area of weakness I found in the storyline was the emotional pace at times. Beau jumping to show her houses was a small one, but mostly I thought it seemed too soon and unnatural for Beau’s church friends to want to pair him up on dates when his wife had only passed away a handful of months before. I know people worry more about men and them needing a wife to operate in life. It’s true, men can get widower’s syndrome. But somewhere around 8 - 12 months would have made that move more believable to me and made Beau even more desireable and sympathetic than he already was.
Still, these are small issues that are easily set aside when reading a captivating book. Julie has surely written a gem of a novel here and there is no doubt that my Kindle will be loading more of her books!
Walking on Sea Glass by Julie Carobini is the first book in the Sea Glass Inn series. Liddy Buckle comes to work at a seaside resort after her marriage falls apart. The dream of starting fresh is set back by a sudden health issue. As she struggles to grapple with her diagnosis, she finds herself drawn to Beau Quinn. Beau has a wounded heart himself as he is still dealing with the death of his wife and the urging of his community to move on. As their relationship grows, Liddy struggles to trust herself and a man again and Beau must decide if he is ready to commit to a woman who faces a challenging diagnosis. While they struggle with their challenges, there is something going on behind the scenes at the Sea Glass Inn with late night deliveries and secret meetings. Will Liddy and Beau find the courage and faith to face the challenges in their paths? Walking on Sea Glass is my first book by Julie Carobini and is described as a book that “weaves a romantic story of courage, faith, and the power of true love.” I loved the faith aspect of this story as it is real, gritty, emotional and yet filled with hope. While Liddy was not my favorite character, I enjoyed the romance between Liddy and Beau as they are drawn together and yet not quite trusting their connection as their own wounds still run deep. That being said, there is a lot happening in this story that I felt bogged down the flow. From the after hours activities at the inn to the hit and miss attempts at other relationships, I feel a lot of it was not necessary to the central story of Liddy and Beau. Overall, I enjoyed Walking on Sea Glass. If you enjoy faith based romance with realism and emotion, I recommend Walking on Sea Glass.
Walking on Sea Glass is paperback, eBook and audiobook
Sweet, clean romance. No cursing or sex, but definitely plenty of alcohol consumption. That bothered me. Sporadic church attendance by Liddy and Beau and no talk about the Lord or anything. So, I wouldn't call this a Christian book.
I liked the overall story, but I thought it odd that Beau, having just lost his wife to a brain tumor maybe two or three months prior, is having church leadership is pushing him towards getting into a relationship already. What are they, Amish?? Also, I loved Beau's character for the most part, except it irritated me that he agreed to meet with Wendy in person even though he is dating Liddy. As my grandson would say, that was not cool.
Liddy endured so much pain in such a short time from her failed marriage to finding out about the tumor. But, again, as with Beau, she jumped into dating way too quickly. Two guys before she even met Beau. She needed time to heal from the pain of what her ex did to her.
I thought the reconciliation after she found out about Wendy was too easy and too quick. And why didn't Beau just tell Wendy they could discuss her idea on the phone instead of meeting her to walk on the beach and have dinner. 😒
Walking on Sea Glass is the first book in the Sea Glass Inn series by Julie Carobini.
I went into Walking on Sea Glass expecting it to be humorous. Sadly, it was a heavy story. I will be careful not to give any spoilers, but that will be hard if I am going to say much, LOL!
Liddy moves near her best friend Meg when her marriage falls apart. Not long after settling in, she gets an unexpected medical diagnosis. She starts attending the local church, where she meets Beau, a recent widower. Their romance moves too quickly to be believable.
Liddy makes friends at work and there is a slight mystery there. Eventually, it all comes together, but the reveal of the mystery was lackluster and didn't quite make sense.
Overall, it was an okay story, but I am not invested enough to want to continue the series.
I loved this audiobook and the narrator brought it to life. This story was unique to me and I loved the sea like Libby. She had to face a lot at her young age. Infidelity, cancer and not knowing what to do with her life. She tries to get back on her feet but things keep happening. Will she survive what life throws at her? This is a sweet romance with real life issues. Intriguing story. I recommend it to my reading friends. I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the author but was not required to write a positive review. All opinions are my own.
this was a very good story, easy read but interesting and personable. I have enjoyed all of Julie Carobini's books. The characters in this story are true to life in the feelings and decisions they have to make regarding future endeavors, health issues and relatioinships.
A must read for just some enjoyable, true to life experiences. would be a great beach read!
4 stars for Walking on Sea Glass book 1. Liddy is going through a divorce from a cheating husband, moved, found a new job and now finds out she has a brain tumor. Beau is left sing his young wife to cancer after a long struggle. Can these two find comfort and hope in each other?
I liked this story; but I felt it moved a bit slowly. The storyline was ok but I think it could have been better - how, I’m not sure! The symptoms that Liddy had seemed to be taking too long to get an answer. I’ll read Ms. Carobini again - it takes me more than one less than perfect book to give up!
Thanks to the author for the gift of this Spotify audiobook. In the beginning it was hard to get past the fact that people were trying to fix Beau up literally right after his wife died. It was a sweet story though and easy to fall into. As it progressed, however, there was a lot of dialogue that no one would ever say in real life. I think this stands out even more in audio format. I also didn’t understand what exactly was going on in the hotel. At the end it didn’t seem like such a big deal. But overall inspirational as Beau and Liddy had so much to overcome.
This book is a great initial story that keeps you wanting to read more. I enjoyed the main characters and the tension between them. Liddy's faith grows as she learns to believe in true love. Some events at the Sea Glass Inn were irrelevant to the main storyline, but they added humor and depth to this romance novel. I'm eager to read more books in this series.
Loved this story of how God can take the broken pieces of two lives and mend their hearts to become one. Love this series that shows the ability of God to change a curse to a blessing.
This start of the Sea Glass series is a good story, filled with faith and compassion. You will be excited to know the story of Liddy and Beau gets even better in the next story, so hurry up and enjoy this one.
Heart warming and utterly captivating!! What a wonderful read by Julie Caobini. I delighted in getting to know Liddy and Beau along with their story. At times I wanted to shake them and at others I just wanted to hug them. Looking forward to the next installment in the Sea Glass Inn Series.
This is a really good read! I truly enjoyed the characters and who doesn't love a romance set at the beach? There were some typos and errors but still a great story. Definitely worth the read!
The Bible holds many truths and many love stories. This was a good clean romance with God and good morals being evident. Thanks to the author for her love of the sea. And thanks for he sea glass that Liddy treasures.
It is easy to understand Beau concerns after the death of his wife. He was very much in love with his wife and she left this world early in life After seeing her struggle so long, he was hesitant to be involved with another woman. Very interesting book.
Love is never simple. Neither is the loss. But learning to love again and sincerely should be uncomplicated. But it wasn’t. With enough effort, a closer walk with God, good counsel this couple had a wonderful discovery about themselves and each other
This is book #1 in the Sea Glass Inn. I really liked this book the plot was so interesting and it was a mover. I also liked the romance in this. Julie hit the ball up the right field line and got to third base!
This book held my attention from the first word to the last. I had just a bit of trouble keeping up at first but finally got all the characters figured out. I am looking forward to reading the next book. Pull
We never know how loss of a wife taken by cancer takes its toll . We never know how we feel when a husband ends the marriage and a medical issue requires brain surgery. What we do know is love will prevail and two people meet and learn to love again.
I would really like to rate this 3 1/2. At least the first half of the book was kind of slow and not that interesting. The rest of the story was redeeming.
