A girl who doesn’t belong. A secret she won’t tell. A killer setting the course. The story continues from Mailboat I and Mailboat II.

The hopes of foster kid Bailey hang on a prayer as her beloved mentor Captain Tommy fights for his life, the most recent victim in a spate of violence that's rocked their idyllic lakeside town. She'd give anything to save him—even if it means making a devil's deal and walking away from him forever.

Officer Ryan Brandt's investigation into Bailey's abusive foster home has been a wash; Bailey won't talk. Once he realizes that Captain Tommy is the only person Bailey trusts, he makes it his mission to keep the two of them together, come wind or high water. His only hope is that Tommy will survive and coax Bailey's secrets up from the depths. Meanwhile, Jimmy the young scientific genius struggles to tell Bailey how he feels about her—at the same time fighting the monsters of his past and the memory of a sister whose fate still torments him.

None of it may matter, though, if the killer succeeds in the next step of his plan. The resulting storm may rock Lake Geneva to its very foundations.

Will long-hidden secrets finally come to the surface, drawing Bailey, Tommy, and other lost souls together? Or will the moor lines slip, setting them adrift as a serial killer navigates the town of Lake Geneva toward an explosive end?

The mystery continues as some clues remain elusive but the reader may have info the police don’t.

Ryan wants to protect Bailey as he looks for any evidence that could put Bud in jail and he would like to create a better relationship with Monica. An attempt on Tommy’s last few has Ryan seeking counsel from Police Chaplin Bill Gallagher. Bill and Peggy have been fostering children although they already have grandchildren they may be adopting to more youngsters. By the time Ryan leaves he’s been educated on “relentless love” a term that will soon change Ryan’s life.
Jimmy meets Roland Markham who sees potential in the boy but he also recognizes Jimmy needs guidance to achieve his long term goals. It’s possible Roland can use Jimmy’s talent for his benefit.
Still confused about this Boy-Girl relationship business, Jimmy asks Noah for advice. He doesn’t say Bailey is his person of interest and of course the question is asked using more scientific terminology which at first confuses Noah.

3rd book is back on track and another cliff hanger. Much better read than 2nd book, I'm looking forward to Bailey's development and hopefully justice in book 4..

The Captain’s Tale, the latest addition to The Mailboat Suspense Series, is the best of the three books.
Picking up exactly where The Silver Helm left off, we are immediately immersed in the characters of Ryan and Bailey as the race to save Captain Tommy’s life begins. Danielle Lincoln Hanna masterfully weaves in the other characters and we learn much more about old, fractured friendships and relationships.
Revelation follows revelation in this book, each more explosive than the next until the final, fatal confrontation takes place. The Captain’s Tale contained enough twists and turns that the ending took me by surprise.
As a member of the Early Reader Team, I just want to say, I loved this book and now cannot wait for Mailboat 4.

Another exciting addition to the series about sixteen-year-old Bailey Johnson, a Lake Geneva mailboat jumper, and her relationships with the mailboat captain, her nefarious foster father, a school friend nerd named Jimmy, and assorted members of the Lake Geneva law enforcement community. In particular, I love the author's use of similes and metaphors to add color and emotion to her stories. She has a unique talent in capturing just the right analogies.

Well, this one ended with a bang.... and now it's wait until the auhtor comes out with the next. It was promised for Summer 2020 but instead she put out a prequel... Feeling a bit jerkede around to be honest.
I geninely like Bailey and Ryan, two of the mmain characters, so I will probably read #4 when it comes out, but I'm fairly certain I won't buy any more "series" from this author once I find out what happenned to these folks in Lake Geneva...

The story line in interesting, grabs you with ongoing action but becomes stalling as each character reviews the same plot twist from their individual emotional shortcomings that tend to detract from the enjoyment as each one is unable to cope or overcome time after time. No real learning curve evolving or any kind of resolution or hope for one, could go on like this for several more books but i'm not interested anymore.

I will finish the series. However, adding more characters, more dilemma's and more problems really muddy up the story. I, personally, don't care about the new additions. SPOILER:: Adding the genius kid only to blow him up? Along with one of the only genuine good guys? Why? As mentioned, I will finish the series but I don't see any more by this writer in the near future.

Couldn't put it down! And I can't believe it's not written by a Lake Geneva native. She sure is doing her research. Books 1-3 take place over about two weeks and three murders plus other mayhem and nothing is solved yet!

So far a good read, but I do wonder how many more books this series can support? If it's more than one or two more books I think I might have to bale!!

Page 250 '"Well." Lehman settled... "How 'bout them Brewers?"' This author does not know her head from a cheese curd. Any self-respecting Wisconsinite would have said, "How 'bout DEM Brewers?"

Irritating

This author doesn't know how to end a book. Instead of an ending we get a cliffhanger...every time. I certainly won't be starting another of her series.

Once again she leaves us hanging at the end. I've come to enjoy the characters but don't like the literary technique of leaving the reader hanging, forcing them to read the next book. On to book IV

The author notes that the books must be read in order and they truly need to be. Each book ends with no real conclusion then the storyline continues in the next book. I love the Lake Geneva area and the books help capture the essence of the area.
