The Best of Outdoor Life: One Hundred Years of Classic Stories From Outdoor Life's Finest Writers by Outdoor Life Magazine (Cowles Creative Publishing 1998)(799.2+/-). This is a coffee-table-sized book best read with a full belly by a crackling fire; it contains one hundred hunting and fishing stories selected by the editors of Outdoor Life Magazine from the magazine's archives. These selected stories are typically the “Me and Joe went hunting...” type, but some notable authors' are included, such as Ernest Hemingway, Theodore Roosevelt, Aldo Leopold, and Zane Grey. Best of all are the old trophy photos which accompany the stories. My rating: 7/10, finished 4/14/15.
Excellent collection of sport writing from "Outdoor Life" magazine's first century. I most enjoyed the earliest adventures...some from the 1870s that read just like today's sports writing. I found that amazing!
