Perdido County: Dark Road (Owen Wolfe Mysteries Book 1) - a review by Rosemary Kenny

*slight spoilers*
Book 1 in the Owen Wolfe Mysteries is Perdido County: Dark Road by David Leadbeater, introduces the eponymous Sheriff of Perdido County, Owen Wolfe, who's an ex Dallas PD officer and now the MC of this modern day Western adventure.

Shown to be flawed and still retaining his integrity, Wolfe has given in to the 'demon drink', blaming himself for the murder of his partner in a shootout. Yet seeking oblivion from guilt in the bottom of a bottle or glass is not the answer and Wolfe eventually tries to get back 'on the wagon'. As sheriff he's mentored by his 'boss' the current, (but ill and soon to retire sheriff), Emory 'Bud' Frazer, who knew Wolfe's father well.

With only a few deputies to assist, the head of whom is Olivia Alvarez and the 'team' must rely on the help of Border Patrol Agent Ruiz for local guidance, when a man is shot by a distant sniper before he can be saved. Who wanted to silence the victim - and why?
Who is Mel Roberts and how is she connected to these events? Where has her husband Glen gone? Who did he see in a remote canyon trailer?

When young Zoe Garcia(15) goes missing, is she another victim of the same perpetrator? Her mother doesn't want to believe the girl has absconded with an older man she's been seeing secretly, but things don't look good as the hours pass.
Who is Chase Carter and how is he involved in the sheriff-to-be elections?
It's all happening in this book and you won't want to miss a single page of this all-action Western thriller, Dark Road by Larry Darter - grab your copy today!

Copy of Longmire

Longmire fans will quickly recognize Season 1 Episode 1 with little change. The unfinished shower, the wreck with empty beer containers, the mishandled missing person report, gun shot victim is father of missing girl, article of clothing leading to mobile brothal, contact for brothel as working at local bar, getting shot after OMT in place of OIT, shooting from brace on truck door, putting up election poster across from election poster for Deputy Chase, who by the way is played by actor named Chase. No original story.

Finished Before I Started

Did not know this was a short story, felt a little misled. Writing was good but I do not like short stories. Will not buy other works by this author.

Not my idea of a full length book. More like a short story, but excellent, none the less.

A really good book, it's short but sets up the characters well and gets you wanting to read more. Looking forward to reading the next book.
