Atlanta Outlaws #2

Something Deep

Rate this book
A hot as sin single dad who lives for his son and playing his heart out on the ice. His best friend who’s loved him quietly for as long as she could remember. Add the memories they share from growing up in foster care, a few secrets, and a stolen kiss; and you have a recipe for chaos. What do you do when everything you thought you knew is thrown into question? Karina Lachlan has been the one constant in my life for years. And I’ve constantly tried to ignore the tight feeling in my chest when I see him with his son, or the lust that rolls through me when he insists on walking around showcasing the tight abs that riddle his abdomen. Why does he have to be so damned arrogant and lovable? I thought my life was stable and that nothing could surprise me anymore. I can’t believe how wrong I was. Something Deep contains a lovable cast of characters, a generous heaping of spice and a dash of sweet; the second interconnected standalone centering around Atlanta’s new hockey team and the fun that comes with them. This is a best friends to lovers love story that you don’t want to miss! The very end of this 70,000 word book contains a hook to the next couple, not a cliffhanger that pertains to the current love story

Lachlan is totally unaware (I love it) that his (foster) sister, Karina is in love with him and has been for years. He never went there with her, and in fact was in love and married to his high school sweetheart, Deena. Things didn't work out between Lachlan and Deena though they had a son, Mateo together. When Deena leaves Karina uproots her life to be there for Lachlan and Mateo. She had many, many opportunities to tell Lachlan that she loved him as more than a brother-friend though I absolutely understood the reluctance.

When Karina feels an attraction for another man she discounts the feelings she's had for Lachlan for years--like it's not possible to love and lust at the same time. She decides that she has transference feelings for Lachlan because how else could she be attracted to another man. When Lachlan shares details about what's happening with Karina with his close teammates, they all tell him she's in love with him and he's dumbstruck. He doesn't quite know what to do with that information, because he too, is reluctant to go there and for good reasons. Mateo being the main one. Their friendship for the other. What happens if it doesn't work out? All very good reasons for concern. This is my favorite book in the series, so far. Recommended: Read it!

Heroine is not a virgin and has about equal experience that hero has.

Hero is not a manwhore. He doesn’t like sleeping around

** When he is not in a relationship, he has a steady friend with benefits**

This may bother some, but it didn’t bother me. There is nothing wrong with being in a committed partnership like this when both parties understand the parameters. He just sleeps with one girl at a time, and there is nothing wrong with that for me.

There are no descriptive scenes with ow or om.

There is slight ow drama when his son’s mother comes back, but the heroine does not run crying. She confronts the ex and so does the hero.

*issue with the book was that there were parts of the book when the two characters lacked chemistry and almost felt like there would be better off as friends

Was wondering...

For a minute I was starting to wonder if this was going to be a cookie cutter story. I wasn't really fond of the "h" wishy washy actions. For someone who grew up in "the system" , she was awfully weak to me. But can't wait to see who was in the accident

Ok

I don’t know why but I didn’t really connect with this book. They was something missing. Maybe it’s the fact that there wasn’t really a relationship progression between the 2. I know they have been friends for years so that probably made it difficult but, we went from best friends, to Lachlan’s friends telling him about Karina’ s affections, to a kiss and near miss and nothing. She really treated Lachlan badly by basically wanting him to guess what she felt (which she flip flopped about) then by leaving and ignoring him. After years of friendship, it’s really no way to treat someone. When she came back she didn’t even apologize. She kissed him and that was that. A bit short in my opinion. At least we didn’t get the whole he’s back with Deena for his son nonsense. As a aside I don’t understand why either of them apologized to Deena. She messed up and instead of apologizing she comes back and starts accusing and threatening? No I don’t think so. Same thing I thought Lachlan was far too lenient about letting her back in the kid’s life. It’s all great to want to make amends but I would have had a lawyer write a custody agreement and make sure she was sober. Appearance can be deceiving and you don’t want to expose your kid. Same thing, she wouldn’t be sleeping in my house. Boundaries and all.
The whole fairytale with Karina’s family was a bit much too. I don’t understand why she had to go and meet them in Michigan? The Grandmother came to her once, she could do it again. And the whole blood thing never made that much sense to me, so for the grandmother to question Lachlan even lightheartedly, too much too soon for me. Yes, it wasn’t her fault Karina was in the system but the reality is that they are still strangers so she doesn’t get to voice any opinions just yet.

Wow

Loved it, I passed over this book several times glad I went back to it a few days ago. If you have not read this you really should. Lachlan (love the name) and Karina both raised in the foster care system but they made it. Lachlan always protective of Karina and she always there for Lachlan. If you like best friends to Lovers this is for you. The book has domestic violence, selfishness, bigotry, and lots more. Loved the sex scenes. They were scorching Hot. Thing I will read another in this series. Kudos to the author.

Karina and Lachlan is a cute couple that was meant to be together since they we're younger. And I'm happy that they get together.

I have to say that I love there relationship, and when Lachlan test her by showing more and more of his body to her. And when she cannot stand it anymore she's becomes suspicious of him and thinks that he's doing it on purpose, had me laughing. Her misery was one that I couldn't help but cheer on Lachlan.

I love the fact that Lachlan son, Mateo his very much in his own world, in the sense that he can talk, but he's very independent in doing things on his own time. That was very interesting and a new way of thing, it had me thinking that kids really does the darnest things.

I really don't like Lachlan ex-wife, the fact that she blames him for everything is BS. She made the decision to fall into the bad crowd and then want to place the blame on him. That's ridiculous, and then she wants to try to make things work between them. I'm glad that Karina puts her in her place, I couldn't be more happy to have read that.

It had me shouting "YES! Karina has some claws." lol I really glad that they end up together, now there's only one more person that I cannot wait to read about. And that is Lachlan best friend Zeke, I hope everything works out in his favor, and that he can get over this little rough patch.

Sweet heart

Based on their interactions and mannerisms with each other, everyone knew that Lachlan and Karina love each other beyond platonic except for them. One kiss transforms everything, bringing new things and ideas to life. Karina lets her guards down and let someone other than him in, her friends letting her know that they want to know all of her, not just the parts she choose to show. Mat is a sweetheart and glad that he finds his voice. Looking forward to reading part three.

Lachlan and Karina

Lachlan is such a sweetheart and protector, especially when it comes to his best friend Karina. Karina kinda got on my nerves. She's been in love with Lachlan for ever but acts childish about it. I understand not wanting to mess up a friendship but she was pushing him away when she should have been honest when he asked her. I'm glad she finally got her mind right and got her man. Damien should have been smack for what he said. Now I anxious to find out about the accident in the next book.💝💝

Friends make the best lovers

I loved this storyline. We’ve all had that one friend that makes you consider pushing the boundaries. And of course in a romance novel you expect a happy ending. This book was wonderful because the ending was expected but not obvious.
The characters were real and fully developed. I couldn’t put this book down until it was finished. I will definitely be reading all of this author’s books.

Perfectly imperfect

Love both books in this series and I am not a big hockey fan. Jamie and Kay belong together and it shows to everyone but him. Once they open up, all of that history and love are amazing. The family feel of the whole story is heart warming.
This one ends on a cliffhanger and I usually hate that, but this is one of those series you just want to wait for. Love it!

Finally

I'm glad that Lachlan and Karina finally told each other how they felt about each other and are now engaged to be married. Karina was always a constant presence in Lachlan and Mateo's life even though Deena was intimidated by it. I'm glad that Deena is now a part of Mateo's life and not trying to cause problems for Lachlan and Karina. I think Wil broke Zeke's heart and I can't wait to see who was in an accident

What happened?

A few too many typos and one seriously unanticipated ending. Marina and Jamie are best friends, brought up in foster care. Pretty good read until you get to trying to put reactions into it that have not been explained. Sam, and Diane for instance, I just felt like we could have done without this but and whatever happened to Mateo surprising Marina with speech? Looking forward to the book in the series, with hope.

Read Out Of Order

I’ve read all three out of order but there was no confusion...as with the others just great writing, great story with many layers..so bravo to that 👏🏽

But whew Chile I swear at time Karina got on my nerves...but what made me endure her was her sass and humor....Lachlan straight sexy troglodyte in a good way...angst-filled with a protective heart.

Get this one and all the rest in the series...you won’t be disappointed! Ms. Cole you didn’t yo’ thing girl 🙌🏽

WTF was up with that ending?!?!?! A cliffhanger? Really????

I love the friends to lovers trope and this would have been a great if Karina wasn't so on the fence to the point of almost being cruel. The reunion with her family was a little too perfect. I would have liked that Karina's mental health issues was dealt with more. It's obvious she needs to go back to therapy. What was the point of introducing Damian as a potential love interest if he wasn't going to be true competition for Lachlan?
