this is one Hell of an amazing series and book 5 just left me wanting even more. I loved the wild ride with Doddlebug in Hell Away from Home I'm still not sure about trusting her...lol but like Sere I have trust issues...lol I love the world the author has built here, the dimensions, the characters, the mystery surrounding more mystery and bring it all together and then projecting that through the pages is just done so well I'm always left wanting more. This book and this series and basically every book G.A Chase has written have all been truly captivating stories I can never put down, Hell Away from Home did not disappoint it was a real page-turner from beginning to end.
This is one of those series where I’m dying for the next book to come out, doesn’t matter what it’s about, I’m going to read it. None of this reading the blurb – just gimme, gimme, gimme so I can get started already! And so, I finally have Hell Away from Home in hand and start reading. And I’m reading, and reading, and reading. I’m waiting for it to begin. I’m waiting for my favorite devil’s daughter to show up. Where is Sere? So I stopped reading and go back to check out the blurb. Oh. This is Doodlebug’s story. Gotcha. With that in mind, I went back to the beginning and re-read with an open mind this time around.
Doodlebug! Yay, she gets her own story and along the way, we are taken on quite the adventure! Dragons, harvesters, demons, and a potential new devil. Holy moly this book was fun. Doodlebug has her hands full. I’ve never given her character much thought during this reading of this series. Now I am standing up and paying attention.
Hell Away from Home definitely had a bit of departure from the norm of the other books. Okay, so we don’t get to froth over Sere and Bart evolving further into their couple-ness. We still do get to experience Sere just not from the driver seat. But, that’s okay because now I have a fresh opinion to the series. Questions get raised while others get answered. There’s even closure for some other characters that I enjoyed at the same time new characters are introduced. Did I mention there be dragons and OMG they FLY! This book, while different, was definitely worth the read. Bring on the next book!
On a side note: I haven't been a huge fan of the cover. However, the cover for Hell Away from Home - nailed it!
This had an interesting start as Doodlebug starts the book off in Hell where things are not going well where they even have dragons now!! Be warned alot of the book is from Doodlebug's point of view so it does feel a little different but it was good to get to know her more as she is the gangs point of contact in hell. There are definitely challenges for not only Doodlebug but for Sere and others and its her chance to step up but ...well can you really trust a doppelganger?! I can't wait to see where things go next and see what ar$e kicking Sere, Doodlebug and others can do!
Hell Away from Home dives deeper into War against demons, the nastiest of which are the immortal-wannabe Marjorie LaRoque from New Orleans, and the giant Cormorant bird woman. Each wants to rule Earth AND Hell. Teenaged Doodlebug is almost solely thwarting their plans while the Devil’s Daughter, Sere, is MIA. Chase’s expansive world-building and imaginative beings, from devils to angels, drive the action. This is a series worth following! (It’s best to start from book #1 and follow through, because the conflict and character evolution build with each one!). Great job, Mr. Chase!
We’re at the fifth book in this series, and it’s still going strong. This author has a very interesting plot in these books, and the characters are all very interesting. I always enjoy everyone’s uniqueness. This book is mostly from Doodlebug’s point of view which I liked, but I have to admit that I really don’t much like this character. Not only that, I was a little overwhelmed at times with all the people involved in the storyline which drew me out of the story a little. However, I really did enjoy this one, and I’m looking forward to the next one. Recommend this book! I was provided the e-book which I voluntarily reviewed.
Stuck in hell dealing with the harvesters Doodlebug needs to get a important message to Sere , but Sere is comatose and her real is in no better shape . Can a 16 year old doppelganger fight the dragons thwart a devil and rescue Sere maybe with a bit of help and a lot of luck she can . Really enjoyed this book can't wait for the next.
This story is told mostly from Hell in the perspective of Doodlebug. I enjoyed things from her perspective, and it can be said that the hell version of this girl is probably more dependable than the earth version even if Sere doesn't like her. It was wonderfully written, and very entertaining to follow Doodlebug along as she tried to figure out what to do next and who to trust.
The author does such a terrific job of drawing the reader into the story and leaving them wanting more - I know I do. The story, characters, and setting are all well crafted and have you feeling as though you are with the characters as they are on their adventures. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Wow! So much happens in this book! I couldn’t stop reading - took me so long as life just got in the way!) Sere & gang take everything in stride and face it head on! Love the detailed descriptions in this book, I can’t wait for the next instalment. Recommend to all.
Doodlebug just wants out of hell she has to go against demon, devils and dragons. She has to stop Mathieu from creating a new devil. I really missed Were and Bart in this book. Doodlebug was a very different perspective for this book.
The story just gets better and better. Sometimes it still amazes me this series was written by a man. The penis information is definitely Male but the emotions and feelings lean to feminine, which brings us to a dude seriously in touch with his feminine side.
Sere’s still present in Hell Away from Home, but readers spend a LOT of time in Doodlebug’s head. That’s not a bad thing, just worth mentioning and a little different than what we’ve gotten used to.
Hell Away from Home didn’t necessarily make me like Doodlebug any more than I did before. I still can’t quite get past what she took away from Sere and her family. I understand her usefulness to Sere, but she’s got a long way to go to redeem herself. Sere doesn’t quite trust her either, which keeps things interesting. Especially with all that’s at stake.
Although there’s no true cliff hanger at the end of Hell Away from Home, things are definitely up in the air. Sere’s left with not knowing exactly who she can and can’t trust – including people she’s never questioned. Hell and Back is next and I can’t wait to see where things go from here. In the mean time, I’ll spend some time catching up with Sere’s back story in the Malveaux Curse Mystery series. 😉
I received Hell Away from Home in exchange for a fair and honest review.
