Un libro muy interesante y divertido a medio camino entre el còmic y la novela y que motiva a la lectura a los peques, introduciendo y presentando un montón de clásicos juveniles.

So begins a hilarious adventure with super fun illustrations, twisty turns and literature. Lots of literature. 5/5

Alex oder Agus, wie er im spanischen Original heißt, ist ein sympathischer, aber ausgesprochen unordentlicher und vergesslicher Junge. Sein Zimmer versinkt im Chaos, die sich täglich wiederholenden Mahnungen seiner Mutter, endlich aufzuräumen, lassen ihn kalt. Schule ist auch nicht sein Ding und Hausaufgaben schiebt er so lange auf, bis ihm ganz entfallen ist, dass da noch etwas zu machen ist. Dass er deshalb ständig in Schwierigkeiten gerät und die ihm unliebe Klassenstreberin, die zu allem Überfluss auch noch in der Wohnung neben ihm wohnt, um Rat fragen muss, nimmt er zwar innerlich seufzend, aber billigend in Kauf. Nachdem ihm in der Schulbibliothek beim unerlaubten Versteckspielen einige Bücher zu Boden gefallen waren, die er – natürlich! - vergessen hat, wieder einzusortieren, wird er zur Strafe zum Ausräumen des Büchereilagers beordert – Widerstand zwecklos – und entdeckt dabei ein orangefarbenes Etwas, wohl ein Plüschtier, das dort vergessen vor sich hin gammelt. Emma, die Bibliothekarin, schenkt es ihm – und von nun an wird Alex-Agus' Leben nicht mehr dasselbe sein!
Zuhause nämlich entpuppt sich das vermeintliche Stofftier als lesewütiges Monster, das dem 'ganz normalen Jungen', als der Alex sich selber bezeichnet (nun ja, vielleicht untertreibt er da ein wenig, denn er ist wirklich ein absoluter Chaot, der lieber Strafen und Sanktionen erträgt, als zu tun, worum er ohnehin nicht herumkommt), tüchtig Dampf macht, ihn aber auf eine Weise aus seiner Lethargie reißt, wie er es nie für möglich gehalten und auch gar nicht für erstrebenswert gehalten hätte. Plötzlich entdeckt Alex-Agus, wie toll Bücherlesen sein kann, kann sich dieser Erkenntnis gar nicht entziehen, denn Mr. Flat, als der sich das Monster vorstellt, besteht darauf, dass Alex alle Bücher aus seinem Bestand, in die er zuvor nie einen Blick geworfen hatte, heranschleppt, um sie gemeinsam wenn schon nicht ganz, so aber doch ausschnittweise zu lesen. Dabei erfährt der Junge auch von der großen Familie des Mr. Flat, die in alle Winde verstreut wurde, nachdem ein gewisser Dr. Brat sie zusammen mit seinem Kumpan Nap aus dem 'Buch der Monster' herauskatapultiert hatte. Alex verspricht seinem neuen Freund Mr. Flat, ihm bei der Suche nach dem garstigen Dr. Brat und der Heimstatt der Monster, eben jenem Buch, zu helfen, doch bis er sein Versprechen in die Tat umsetzen kann, muss der Junge noch einige Aufregungen überstehen, für die er durch seine Schludrigkeit beste Vorarbeiten geleistet hat...
Der Autor der Agus-Serie, der Katalane Jaume Copons, ist ein in seiner Heimat sehr bekannter Kinderbuchautor oder, wie er sich selber sieht, Geschichtenerzähler – was man nur bestätigen kann, wenn man Alex erstes Abenteuer gelesen hat! Seit 2014 schreibt er die von Liliana Fortuny illustrierten comicartigen Bücher um Agus – mit großem Erfolg, wie man liest! Und nun hat also der erste Band auch seinen Weg nach Deutschland gefunden und es bleibt zu hoffen, dass der Verlag 'Edition Helden' demnächst auch die weiteren mehr als zwanzig Folgebände herausbringen wird! Eigentlich herausbringen muss, denn am Ende des hier zu besprechenden Buches beginnt die Geschichte erst so richtig! Der zu Alex mutierte Agus hat ja schließlich Mr. Flat, der einen in jedweder Hinsicht positiven Einfluss auf ihn hat, ein Versprechen gegeben. Und es ist für den wie umgewandelten Jungen Ehrensache, dieses auch zu halten!
Ja, manchmal braucht man etwas im Leben, das einem die Richtung weist, das einen Dinge tun lässt, ganz freiwillig, vor denen man sich immer gedrückt hat, der einen motiviert und die Folgen des eigenen nachlässigen Handelns vor Augen führt. Erst dann ist man oft bereit, Verantwortung zu übernehmen. Ein Buch mit Botschaft also? Ja, das könnte man meinen, aber da dies das erste (Comic-)Kinderbuch ist, das ich von Jaume Copons lese, kann ich dies nicht mit Sicherheit sagen. Jedenfalls wird die 'Botschaft' nicht mit dem Holzhammer vermittelt, wie man das häufig in sogenannten lehrreichen, pädagogisch wertvollen Kinderbüchern findet (wobei in sehr vielen von diesen die Unterhaltung, der Spaß, regelmäßig zu kurz kommen), sondern sachte und humorvoll. Das gefällt mir als Erwachsener und sicher genauso der jungen Zielgruppe. Und die Art, wie hier ein Comic zwischen Erzählpassagen eingebaut ist, finde ich ebenso originell und clever zugleich, zudem ich mir gut vorstellen kann, dass sich auch ausgesprochene Lesemuffel auf so etwas einlassen.
Der einzige wirkliche Schwachpunkt des Buches sind für mein ganz persönliches Empfinden jedoch die als Karikaturen angelegten Illustrationen der Liliana Fortuny, die ich weder witzig noch gekonnt finde, sondern die mir teilweise als liebloses Gekrakel, wenn auch mit Wiedererkennungswert, erscheinen. Ein Comic halt? Nun, ich kenne großartige Comic-Zeichner, die natürlich mehr oder minder die Wirklichkeit verzerren, dabei aber nie ein solch unüberschaubares Durcheinander anrichten, wie die Illustratorin der 'Alex und die Monster'-Reihe. Aber nun, alles ist eben eine Frage des Geschmacks – und nach dem riesigen Erfolg zu urteilen, den die Serie in Spanien hatte respektive immer noch hat, stört sich außer mir offenbar niemand am karikierenden Stil der Zeichnerin....

Alex is living his current life philosophy; minimum attention, minimum effort. He thought it was going well. But he got to school and realized that the cost of minimum attention just...caught...up. It put him where he hated to be. A target for Lidia (the superior tattletale) Lines. And it earned him time helping the librarian because he had made a mess he forgot to clean up.
It was while he helped the librarian that he discovered a little plush (stuffie) toy that appeared to be a monster. A kid's toy. Alex has no idea how his life will be turned upside down by a used-looking orange monster.
This chapter book explores some basic childhood questions like "Why Should I do things the way adults tell me to?" Alex is trying his own way. Fortunately for him, he gets a reward of sorts--instead of punishment--that gently reveals the flaws in his ways of thinking.
The monster, Mr. Flat, shows Alex the wonders and adventures available in books that Alex had somehow missed. And Alex finds levels of loyalty and determination in himself that he never suspected. (Maybe some adults do know things worth listening to; in a much shorter-than-normal lecture, hopefully!)
This story is told in an adventure-style, so a chapter may end, but the suspense is still building. I may have seen a good place or two to stop reading, but I seem to have rushed right past them so I could continue reading all 10 chapters!
Mr. Flat is a cute monster with an under-bite, and an extensive knowledge of classic adventure stories. He introduces Alex to a few books that Alex had been sharing his room with, but not truly living with.
I won't tell you what happens; I'm not like Lidia Lines. But I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed this book from cover to cover. I wouldn't suggest giving it as a gift--to someone with a messy room--that can backfire. But I think nearly everyone would like this tale of both woe and triumph, and how Alex met a lot of monsters!
Note: The translation from French (Canadian) to English was done very well!

Alex Pianola is a kid who forgets to turn in assignments, and has a really messy room. His current assignment is due and he needs help. He finds a little stuffed animal that looks like a monster. It comes to life, and Alex finds a friend who likes to read all the classic books like Treasure Island and Peter Pan. His new friend, Mr. Flat, helps Alex, but needs help in return. Mr. Flat, and his friends, are from a book called The Book of Monsters. This book is the start of the adventure.
I liked this book with comic book style illustrations. The main character and Mr. Flat are pretty likeable. I liked all the references to classic books that Alex discovers along the way. This chapter book for grades 3-4 was a fun read.

Designed as an impetus to get young tykes to tidy their room and read more, this is unlikely to do much along those lines. Designed also as a series opener, concerning our young hero and his room full of monsters, it might struggle to lead to many sales either. Obnoxious and stereotypical scruff-boy who can't remember a single thing with the word 'school' connected to it needs to spend a weekend catching up with homework, but finds a stuffed animal that is actually a book monster. Once they've become good friends, they get separated and it's a race to get back together. It's full of poor logic (if Alex is too old for a "stuffie" then what is the brainbox girl in his class doing with one?) and the structure of the book, in that it is half pictorial adventure and half comic-book, doesn't quite work at times. It's bright and brash enough for the target audience, but there are much smarter purchases available.

Kid who’s been slacking in class has to stay in his (messy) bedroom all weekend in order to catch up. While on punishment duty in the library he finds what appears to be a toy, only to have it turn into something else when he gets home to do his homework.
While his appearance certainly could be construed as monstrous—or cute, depending—Mr. Flat does not act like a monster.
“All these books that I found really boring are way more interesting that I thought.” And there’s your lesson.
This is done as prose with drawings; the dialog takes place in the artwork, which is very colorful, especially the pumpkin-colored monster. It took me till near the end of the book to realize Mr. Flat looks like a fat carrot.
Cute, but really not much to say. . .

Alex Pianola encontra na biblioteca de sua escola um velho boneco de pelúcia alaranjado e se surpreende quando é abordado por ele, afinal não é comum bonecos de pano falarem. O sr Flat diz que ele é um monstro e que foi expulso do interior do livro de cuja história faz parte e pede ao menino que o ajude a encontrar o livro e colocá-lo de volta em seu lar.
O monstrinho é um grande e apaixonado leitor e vai incutir no menino um pouco de seu amor pelos livros, uma porta de entrada para grandes aventuras.
É uma fofura, acredito que indicado para leitores a partir de 7 a 8 anos.

O monstrinho é um grande e apaixonado leitor e vai incutir no menino um pouco de seu amor pelos livros, uma porta de entrada para grandes aventuras.
É uma fofura, acredito que indicado para leitores a partir de 7 a 8 anos.

There's something about French books for children - they seem to show the little ones' world with a new zest. I've loved every single one I've opened in a bookstore. And Alex was a new addition to my collection.
I haven't read it to my son yet, as I'll get a Paperback version first, but as a mom I was pulled in and entertained, a wide smile across my face at all times.
There something slightly Spongebob-y about Alex himself at times that just added to my laughs while reading this book.
I recommend it to all moms of small boys. Also, it's quite long for a kids book for the money. So it's a definite win-win.

I really enjoyed this. It's a cute, fun little book for children and I LOVED how the love for reading was also such a big part of the theme of the story. The references to some well known classic books made me remember that feeling of my own love for reading. The main character, a boy named Alex, was really likable and a pretty decent reflection on what little boys are like. It was at times, funny and I bet there are quite alot of kids and adults who would get enjoyment from this. It also has a strong friendship theme to it which I liked.

داستان پسربچهای به نام آگوسه که از کتاب خوندن خوشش نمیاد و اتاقش هم همیشه نامرتبه. :) یک روز توی کتابخونهی مدرسه هیولایی پیدا میکنه که از یک کتاب وارد دنیای ما شده و عاشق کتاب خوندنه. اینطور میشه که هیولا، پسر رو با خودش به کتابهای مختلف و مشهور میبره و اون رو به دنیای کتاب علاقهمند میکنه.

Droši vien pirmais manis lasītais katalāņu literatūras paraugs. Jauka grāmatiņa par pavisam parastu puišeli Agusu, kurš sastop grāmatu mošķi Flatu un atklāj, ka lasīt grāmatas var būt diezgan aizraujoši. Grāmata ir pa pusei komikss, pa pusei - parasts stāsts un bagātīgi un asprātīgi ilustrēta. Mērķauditorijai ( 9 un 6) patika. Izlasījām divos laiskos brīvdienu rītos. Droši vien meklēsim turpinājumus.

Lots of entertaining stuff is in this book. yes I liked it, the story was kind of fast tho.

Toca reseña atípica más orientada al mundo infantil, que puede alejarse un poco del contenido que suelo subir, pero pienso que pueda ser de ayuda también a quien tenga niños cerca o le haya picado la curiosidad este libro. Más que reseña, que le queda quizá un poco ostentoso a unos libros de estas características, simplemente quería comentaros un poco qué tipo de historia podéis encontraros en él, y cómo es su interior, dibujo y diseño de cara a poder atraer a un potencial público infantil.
¡Lllega el Sr.Flat! es el primer volumen de Agus y los Monstruos, saga que relata las aventuras de un niño de sobre 7 u 8 años de edad, un poco vaguete y desastre. En esta entrega, Agus se encuentra con un imaginario o no tan imaginario amigo de peluche dotado de una intensa y graciosa personalidad, que le irá adentrando poco a poco en el mundo de los libros a través de sus disparatadas historias. Una aventura que subliminalmente siembra el interés por los grandes clásicos de la literatura con menciones a Peter Pan o La isla del tesoro entre otras, mezclándolo a la vez con una trepidante trama de colegio y con los problemas del día a día que nuestros niños se pueden encontrar.
El libro me ha parecido una verdadera delicia para los peques, lleno de ilustraciones super coloridas y llamativas de Liliana Fortuny y con texto de Jaume Copons que combina formato narrativo con viñeta haciendo mucho más amena la lectura. Orientado a aquellos pequeños lectores que han superado la fase inicial y pueden acometer ya una lectura un poco más extensa (sobre 100 páginas) y con trama más desarrollada, creo que puede ser una buena opción de enganche a la lectura. A mi hijo le ha encantado y ya me ha hecho investigar el resto de la saga, más de veinte aventuras más, ahí es nada, un pequeño hándicap para el bolsillo de los papis.

This is graphic fiction with a hearty dose of books! I am happy that the monster has a fun backstory in literature and the child in the story (Alex) is encouraged to read classic literature and adventure books by the monster. I am looking out for more of these!

Me gusto mucho este libro, cuando yegua Flat es mi parte favorita porque es (para mi) super inesperado, también cuando lo pierde (me parece, no me acuerdo bien), pero es un libro que vale la pena, y para los que no les gusta mucho estilo libro, tienen mucha suerte porque es formato istorieta.

És un llibre molt emocionant, us el recomano molt, et fa una bona introducció, perquè és el llibre 1 i aquest llibre m'ha fet que hagi de llegir el següent per saber que passa i no us dic res més, perquè no em vull enrotllar molt, llegiu-lo!

Me encantó, lo leímos mi hijo de 8 años y yo. Es divertido, sorprendente y fácil para los que empiezan a leer libros con un poco más de texto. Es prosa combinada con historieta.
