Okay so, while I'm suuuuuuper happy we finally got (a lot) more of Saleem *happy dance* I'm on the fence for this one.
The story takes place from the time he infiltrates Mithras in the hope of getting out his brother and together get rid of Division 7 till Mel saves his ass. So it's the same timeline of book 6 but from Saleem's POV. This would have been a great 6.5 novella, but not a full book as part of the series.
The problem I have is that it brought nothing new... at all :( Saleem was being treated as a punching bag and as a torture subject for Ward and his goons all the while hoping he could still reason with his brother.
There were some interesting tidbits offered near the end of the book, but I feel I need to rehash some of my points from my review of book 6: where is Division 7? A handful of people? That's it? They know the rebels are up to something and they don't get in extra reinforcements? That doesn't add up.
And another point I made before: maybe its time to let all POV flow together into one story. Because in my honest opinion, it's hurting the quality of the story as it is right now :( When you read a book in a series you don't just want to read the same thing as the other POV without some added value in the form of (for example) some crucial information you otherwise wouldn't have had or the introduction of a new character that might have some influence on this story or books to come.
I voluntarily read an advanced reader copy of this book and don't get me wrong, I don't want to be a negative Nancy, I really do love the whole DarkWorld series! The books are well written, the pacing and flow are really good. But... I don't know, I just wish this book had more of an oomph, more of an impact. So here is me hoping book 8 will be kick-ass! :)
