The message of the Gospel Transformation Study Bible is that the gospel of God permeates every book of Scripture. Since the Bible is about God’s grace, we need to learn how to apply its truth in ways which transform our hearts.

The notes illustrate the evidence of God’s grace and include examples of faith in action which highlight the importance of the Bible in our daily life. What I love about the notes are that they first connect the Bible passage to the culture and then shows how it reveals the character of God and His love for humanity. The gospel comes alive and you realize God’s grace has always been lavished upon humanity.

I received a review copy of the ESV Gospel Transformation Study Bible from Crossway; a positive review was not required.

First sentence: In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.

I read and reviewed the first edition of the Gospel Transformation Study Bible when it first released. They have since come out with a second edition.

One thing that has changed from then to now is my eyesight. I wasn't able to fully utilize the notes this time around. But if memory serves me, then the notes were all sorts of amazing and awesome. (I'm sure that is still the case). For the record, I tried to read the notes for about two or three weeks, it was just too much of a strain on my eyes to commit to reading each and every word of the notes. If I came across a particular passage where I felt I needed some clarification or a boost, then short spurts of reading the notes worked.

I love the premise of this one--that Christ is to be found in ALL of Scripture. This Bible erases or perhaps bridges the disconnect between testaments that some struggle with.

I started this Bible on June 28, 2022 and finished it on October 17, 2022.

The Bible is one story: The love story of how Jesus saved us. The ESV Gospel Transformation Study Bible seeks to show how all scripture points to Jesus, both the Old Testament and the New Testament. I have a hardcover copy of this Bible, and I really like the blue and white swirl design on both the dust jacket and the actual Bible cover. The spine of the actual Bible is white with “ESV”, “Gospel Transformation Study Bible”, “English Standard Version”, and “Crossway” stamped on in gold. It has a sewn binding.

This Bible starts out with a presentation page, and marriage/birth/death records. There is also an introduction, ways to use the Bible, and a preface. The Bible text is in a 9 point font, and the notes are an 8 point font. I find the text easy to read. The Bible text is single column, and the notes are double column. Each book of the Bible has an introduction that includes the author and date, the Gospel in that book, and an outline. I enjoy reading about how the Gospel applies to each book. It is a black letter text.

There are cross references for study, and many study notes. The study notes are Gospel centered, and that was the reason that I wanted to add this Bible to my library. There are also five articles on Biblical Theology, Covenants, The Gospel in the Old Testament, The Gospel in the New Testament, and The Relation of the Old Testament to the New Testament. These articles are really interesting, and I have enjoyed reading and learning from them. There is also a topical index and concordance. The Bible ends with a daily Bible reading plan to read the Bible in a year, and 8 full color maps.

I am really enjoying having this sturdy and valuable Bible in my collection. I like how it highlights the Gospel throughout the entire Bible, the helpful articles, and the many other study tools included. I know that I will be picking it up often as I read and study for online seminary classes (I take free classes for fun), and for church Bible study.

I am very grateful to have received a copy of this Bible from Crossway, in return for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Since the publication of its first edition, I have purchased and given away more copies of the ESV Gospel Transformation Study Bible than any other book. There is nothing more useful for those new to the faith or those exploring the faith than a solid study Bible. However, many find themselves confused and overwhelmed by the Word of God. The Bible is a large book and it takes many twists and turns. There are narratives and poems and histories. How does all of this come together and what does all of this mean?

This is where the Gospel Transformation Study Bible shines. As with any study Bible, the GTSB is full of footnotes to help the reader understand areas that might be confusing. What is unique about this particular study Bible is the pointedness of the footnotes. The notes in the GTSB serve to point every passage of Scripture to the Gospel of Christ. The concern of this work is not that the reader would simply understand what events are taking place. The concern is that the reader would see how every event in Scripture works together to reveal a single narrative. That narrative is the Gospel of Grace through the finished work of Jesus Christ.

If you are looking to buy a Bible for a seeker or new believer, this is the one. If you are a believer that wants a sound reference to connect all of Scripture to the atoning work of Christ, there is no better tool than the Gospel Transformation Study Bible.

As someone who regularly uses the ESV in my preaching and teaching ministry I was pleased to receive a review copy of this republication of the ESV Gospel Transformation Study Bible, which was initially released in 2013. This study Bible provides Christ centered study helps throughout the whole Bible.

The contributors to this Bible are some of the best pastors and theologians in evangelicalism today. Each book of the Bible comes with an introduction which addresses how each book points to the gospel of Christ as well as an outline of the book.  This republication adds to the rich study notes five articles on major themes related to biblical theology, covenants, and the relationship between New and Old Testament.

Whether the ESV is your usual Bible or not there is a wealth of resources in this study Bible that would make it a welcome addition to any believer's library. I have benefited greatly from this study Bible in my personal devotions as well as preparing to preach and teach. I would highly recommend this as a resource for any pastor or Bible teacher.

Disclosure: I received a copy of the book from the publisher for the purpose of reviewing it. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review.

First of all, I'm a huge fan of the ESV translation. It's one of my absolute favorite translations, and for more reasons than one! If you're looking to give a new translation a try, I highly recommend ESV- even if it's not this particular Bible. If you are unfamiliar with the ESV translation, it emphasizes word-for-word accuracy, literary excellence, and depth of meaning.

That being said, the ESV Gospel Transformation Bible is such a rich resource. The pages of this Bible do a beautiful job illustrating how God’s redemptive purposes all throughout His Word, from start to finish. This Bible glows with the truth and power of transformation from the inside out!

Some of my favorite features include book introductions (historical and cultural context is so incredibly important when studying and applying the Scriptures), gospel-centered study notes, and all the articles! The contents of its pages serve such a wonderful reminder to us all of the hope that is found in Christ and Christ alone, and the Father's redeeming work in the hearts of all His children.

So, would I recommend it? You bet I would!

The ESV is a time tested and widely trusted translation and the GTSB is an excellent resource for personal and group Bible study. For these reasons I would highly reccomend it to all believers. It is a great tool for growing the reader in understanding the way all of Scripture points to and is fulfilled in Jesus. The GTSB achieves what Jesus did with the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, “And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptues the thing concerning himself” (Luke 24:27, ESV).

I will always be "currently reading" this Bible as it is not one of those stories you read once and are finished. This version of God's Anthology to his followers, written by 66 authors over thousands of years shows me something new each and every time I open it. I prefer the ESV version of the Bible because this translation is easier to understand. The study Bible gives a more in-depth discussion of the topic, defines words/terms that may be unfamiliar, references other books and verses of the Bible that describe the same event, ideas, or lessons; and even suggests other passages to read. The ESV Transformation Study Bible on Ebook lets me take my Bible wherever I go or read whenever I have some time!

The Biblical text itself is, of course, 5 stars. But I found the commentary in this edition simplistic and uninteresting. A few books had great commentaries but on the whole I was disappointed.

Love the study notes in this Bible!! They prove the relevance of the Gospel throughout the story of the Bible and make it so understandably cohesive!
