Sight and Sound the (very) British film magazine was my favorite when it came out four times a year. I would have to go to a film geeks shop like Larry Edmunds on Hollywood Blvd to find a copy - and even old copies.

There was something simple and beautiful about the design of that magazine and it really just focused on films from Europe (including the U.K. of course). They didn't ignore Hollywood but it was more likely to be articles on Keaton or Welles then anything else. I first discovered the writings of Peter Wollen in Sight and Sound.

So this anthology of writings from that publication is almost a bible to me. Today's 'Sight and Sound' is around of course, but it doesn't have that film geek/fanatic aspect to it. I miss those days.
