He's got a title, a castle, a fortune, and a rather massive...image problem.
I was looking for a temporary job.
What I found was a temperamental Irish duke in need of a housekeeper--and a serious image makeover.
To me, Danny was sexy, intelligent, and kind. From the very first moment, I couldn't stop thinking about him.
To the locals, he was a monster.
But I'm no sheep, I follow my own path. None of the vicious rumors mattered because he was the most perfect experience of my life. We were opposites, but fit together like a dream. Our time together was tender, intense, real.
Then I learned that Danny kept his past secret for a very good reason. He isn't as free as I thought. Is this doomed to be a temporary fling, or can we salvage something permanent from the mess?
First in a sexy, fun, heartfelt series. HEA guaranteed. Scroll up to buy today at the special release-week price or borrow in KU.
3.5 Stars I’m going to start off by saying the book lost points in the beginning for me because of the bad date Danny mentions at the start of the book. I was fine with him coming home from a bad date, everyone has them. What I didn’t need to know was that he had sex with this horrible date in the bathroom of the restaurant. It was pointless to the story and wasn’t something I wanted or needed to know. After that I enjoyed most the story. I liked both Danny and Shannon a lot. I understood why Danny was reserved and kept to himself. Small towns can be a curse to live in, especially if you do something wrong. Another thing that bothered me was how Shannon was a totally different person with Brett. She was a feisty and fun woman with Danny and yet she couldn’t stand up to Brett. I am glad she finally found her courage but I wondered why she let him push her around the way he did. He was stalkerish with his texting and phone calls but he wasn’t violent or abusive so I wasn’t sure why she was so afraid to stand up to him. The ending was sweet I just wish there was more to the epilogue. I will read book two so I hope we get to see more of them in that story. Safety and Spoilers Safe! There is the mention of the hook up for the H at the restaurant and the h is a non virgin. They have both dated in the past but nothing else is mentioned. No abuse but h does have a non violent stalker ex boyfriend. No ow drama and the ex boyfriend does cause some major drama at the end.
Great Irish Romantic Series Small Town Duke by Sara Forbes is Book one of the Billionaires of Ballytirell (Ireland). And I have to say this is a great book one to transport us over to Ireland and will keep us over there in future books. The billionaire, Duke Daniel aka, Danny has an unhealthy reputation in the community. His family, the Moore’s are at odds with the other wealthy family in the community, the Callaghans. The book gives an interesting history lesson as to why there is animosity between the two families. Loved that tidbit! Their temp housekeeper is Shannon who has come over from Austin, Tx to escape an ex-boyfriend and stay with her maternal aunt. Her aunt convinces her to help out the Duke’s family part time while she continues to run her business as a copywriter. Danny and Shannon are attracted to each other but between the community, the ex, and other crap much has to be figured out and played out before an HEA is possible Ms Forbes has written the beginnings to what I think is going to be a truly engaging series. Book two, “Small Town Chief” brings in a Callaghan and a significant character we’ve met in book one. I like that there is a good connection between books. Definitely recommending this book for your reading enjoyment and pleasure. I am leaving this review for your consideration. Peace. Or, in Gaelic - Siochain
Shannon can't seem to escape her ex boyfriend and when he damages her best friend's car she knows she has to do something. So when her mom mentions her aunt in Ireland Shannon jumps at the chance to getaway. When she arrives she learns that her aunt has set up a job for her also while she's there. She's to work as the housekeeper for the Duke and his mother. When Shannon meets Danny for the first time sparks fly between them. His mother hires her and Shannon tries to do a good job but its distracting being around Danny and having her ex still blowing up her phone. When things get heated between her and Danny and they end up together Shannon thinks that maybe her life is changing for the better. However when her ex turns up nothing good ever happens. Will her ex caused trouble between her and Danny? Will she ever get free of him?
This is a great story once I started it I couldn't put it down. The chemistry between them is blazing hot. This is a well written and very entertaining story. I would recommend this book to any book lover.
Sara Forbes begins a new series, with a modern look at aristocracy, in "Small Town Duke." It's our first glimpse of the Billionaires Of Ballytirrel, and we see Shannon fleeing her problems, by seeking solace with her aunt in Ireland. Danny is a titled man, who seems to have everything, but rumors swirl around him and it's hard to know what's true. Shannon is a copywriter, and taking on a part-time housekeeping job, seems manageable, but could she be in danger? This is the first book I've read by Sara Forbes, and she does a great job, drawing the reader into the plot, and introducing characters, for future stories in the series. Mystery, intrigue, drama, angst, humor, heat and surprising twists, have me looking forward to more from this author. A promising series. I received this book as an ARC and I volunteered this review.
AWESOME!!! Talk about chemistry with double dipped chocolate. Nah, I'm just messing with you. If you like a read with drama, uncertainty, intrigue, a little suspense with twists and surprises galore, great news. You're here. The characters and scenes were spot on realistic with vivid detailed descriptions. Riveted watching the characters and their personalities transform and blend. One fascinating storyline and engaging plot brings this little gem bursting to life splendidly. Fantastic job Sara, thanks for sharing this awesome read with us.
I coincidentally chose this book to be read and found out unexpectedly an interesting story inside it. What a surprise! The Duke and commoner's love story. I like the plot and all of it. Imagining myself that someday, with my luck, I would gladly be able to visit Ireland. I just know that Ireland knownly has the most attractive men in the world. Does it? Dunno exactly. I used to read an article about it. But, ha ha.. that's not solely the reason I would love to go there. Now, I'm curious to Seamus Callaghan's story. Going to next series.
Great start to a new Sara Forbes. He’s a duke with a castle, she’s American online writer. She’s temporary fill in housekeeper. Opposites attract! Well written and great descriptions! I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.
A love a good Irish romance! This has a little bit of everything...an american running from a bad relationship, an Irish Duke with a complicated past, small town gossip, age old misunderstandings, grudges, loyalty, humor, lust and at heart a love story with a fabulous HEA!
First off Brett is crazy, Danny the Duke is a great individual! Shannon finds her true love in Ireland!! They tried denying their love, but the chemistry between them was undeniable!
I really enjoyed this start to a new series. It is a rich, complex town with history and character. Danny and Shannon are so good for each other. I cant wait for the rest of the series.
I loved the start of this series and I'm very excited to see the rest of the characters' stories unfold in the near future. Sara Forbes is amazing at keeping the reader engrossed in the story. I couldn't keep it down. I loved the descriptions, the introduction of so many characters. There are a lot of references, so if you are an avid reader, you would really enjoy them. There were also a couple of scenes that made me laugh out loud like the name of the salon in Ballytirrel and how Shannon turns in Blanky McBlankface, just hilarious. Can't wait for the rest of the series. Keep up the awesome stories
