The first of the Ringwood mysteries, the newly engaged detecting couple take on an Oxford University focused kidnapping of the Link baby, hence the title. Farrer is notable for her alliance with the Inklings.

The mystery tries to take on an anti-progressive stance with over concern parenting from professors and a mad sociologist with peculiar semi-Darwinian ideas. The plot shows its age with gypsy suspects.

A bit of fun. At the same time a view into an English past that for better and worse doesn't exist any more. It reminded me of Flavia DeLuce.
