When Jack escapes the vampires holding him captive, he thinks his biggest worries are finding his friends and avoiding the Savages pursuing him...until he stumbles across Charlie.
He’s not sure what’s more dangerous, the vampires hunting him or the woman who harbors more secrets than the island where he’s trapped.

Charlie wasn’t expecting Jack to fall into her life, but now that he has, she doesn’t know what to do with him.

She can’t leave him behind to be hunted, but her growing attraction to him frightens her more than the Savages. Though Jack’s a tempting distraction, love has no place on this island, and Charlie refuses to let him get in her way. She’s escaping the island—with or without him.

Can they work together to survive the horrors of the island, or will they perish like so many before them?

DNF at 15%.

I remember having to force myself through Consumed , the previous book in the series and suddenly realised I do not need to finish a book just because I paid money for it. I am not willing to waste time on books anymore that are a struggle from the start. I got into this and immediately realised mind, body and patronus were miles away from whatever happens in Unforeseen. This series got very monotonous and bleak. I will definitely return to my favourite in the series, Undone , which I recommend as a standalone. Apart from that, Vampire Awakenings and I are done.

2.5 - It Was Good but I Was Kinda Ambivalent About It All - Stars

This book can't be read as a standalone. You at least have to read the previous book in the series. This book tells the story of what happened to Jack who was also stuck on the island. We find out how he met the woman who was on the dock with him in the previous book.

Charlie and her son Dylan were kidnapped and brought to the island 5 years ago. They hid in a tree that first night they were released during the hunt. The next day she fell into a hole and broke her leg. She would've died if Mal, a vampire brought to the island to be hunted, hadn't found her and turned her. So, she and her son and Mal and a few others have lived in the tunnels under the island for the last several years. She discovers Jack when he falls into the same hole she did.

The story was good but at times Charlie bothered me. Her lack of trust in Jack, even after they slept together really got my goat. She thinks to herself that he's not like Chad - who was basically a pedophile who seduced a vulnerable young 16 year old - but he (Jack) could be sick and twisted in another way. Seriously? Sick and twisted? Bitch, please. He's saved your life multiple times. Plus you just banged him.

I never got over that so it tainted the story for me.

I did like to see how all of the his other friends and honorary nieces and nephews came to save them on the island and how they all got away.

I've definitely enjoyed the other books in this series better. I wouldn't skip this one but definitely isn't one of my faves.

Kidnaped and then hunted by Savages, Charlie has been trapped on the island with for 3 years, determined to survive and get off the island, the attraction and bond she feels to Jack has her super wary and uncertain, especially since she has been let down more than once in the past. For his part Jack, is energised by the unexpectedly finding his mate – he never thought it would happen. Now if only he can get them off the island alive.

I enjoyed the start of this and found myself engaged but towards the midway point my interest waned a tad. I usually adore vampire romances, especially with a strong heroine but things with this series are starting to stagnant a little for me, so I’ll be sticking to reading the earlier books.

I have enjoyed this series from the first book and my love for it has not diminished. While it is a bit formulaic, the formula works very well. The characters who have been established in earlier works continue to grow and branch out in their life. The new characters always have a rich and varied backstory that gives you an inside look into who they are as well as how they became that way. Some of the lesser characters are cannon fodder and nothing more but still add to the discourse.

When Jack escapes the vampires holding him and his friends captive, he thinks his biggest problem will be finding his friends and avoiding the Savageshunting him. Then he stumbles across Charlie and he is not sure who's more dangerous, the vampires hunting him or the woman who harbors more secrets than the Island where he's trapped. Charlie wasn't expecting Jack to fall into her life, but now that he has, she doesn't know what to do with him.

We have another broken woman who needs to find her way after having had a bad life before she found herself in her current situation. Lots of action with thoughtful moments and good dialogue.
Recommended for 18+ due to sexual content and violence.

Each book in the series is wash, rinse and repeat, and I eat that up every darn time.

It's hard to believe that a hunger game tournament has been happening right under brian nose without him having any knowledge of it for so many years. Also, the island in the previous book felt so small in comparison to this book island.

Anyway, the story was so fun and engaging, and it got my blood pumping at every scene. Certain scenes got me gripping my Kindle so hard. This was a great read and audio.

Doug death still hurts. I keep wishing he will rise from the dead, lol. I also love the fact that the fmc has a son. It made the dangerous situation worse.

Some stories just take your breath away...

I have been eagerly awaiting Unforeseen and Jacks story... As a loooooong time fan of this series I have been waiting FOREVER for Jacks story...lol so thank you, Brenda K. Davies, for putting me out of my misery and in such spectacular fashion, which is what drew me to your books in the first place.

OMG, they left Jack on the island to be hunted, Doug is dead Nooooooooo and life as they knew it is changed forever but can my favorite Vampire family turn it all around and save Jack destroy the island of horrors and the savages hunting people and live some semblance of Happily Ever After?????

Charlie has been trapped on this horror of an island for 3 years, can you imagine being hunted for 3 years?? When Jack meets Charlie he is thrown immediately, Charlie is attracted to Jack but warry and when you read her past you seriously can't blame her, but this is Jack our sweet grumpy vampire who deserves love and he just knows Charlie is it for him, but she is a woman of mystery, secrets, and surprises...
While being hunted and trying to find a way off the island this story is one of survival, love, passion, and strength, I couldn't ask for more it was amazing.

Loved Jack and Charlie’s story.
We’re back on the Island and Jack falls into a pit and literally stumbles upon his feisty head strong mate.
Charlie has been hiding and surviving underground for 3 years when she finds Jack. Not knowing he’s in the same boat as her she attacks.
Can Jack convince her he’ it a savage or from the hunt.
I couldn’t put Unforeseen down.
Can’t wait to see where Brenda takes us with the next instalment.

This takes place during the same escape events as the previous book except it’s the story of what happens to Jack as he escapes and how he meets Charlie. And it made me cry so it gets 5 stars.

Charlie also was a captive but has been hiding on the island for years ever since a guard friend helped her escape the cages. Now maybe she can finally escape the island.

I think Miss Dodd, even though she’s a minor character, is one of my favorites in this book. She’s so compassionate.

Footnote: 1) I hate that the POV changes almost from paragraph to paragraph without any warning. Very annoying and confusing.

Fave scenes: Jack meeting Dylan, dissecting the rabbit, climbing across the cliffs, Dylan’s grown-up decision and Charlie’s stake vision.

Suspense

Ok. So after the last book I was devastated by that ending and the cliffhanger. Shook. I was dying to know what happened next and how it played out. Also we have known Jack for so long and thru so many books! Jack is an OG. So I wanted to see his mate and what she was like. I was not disappointed. The suspense and drama of them fighting and how they would make it of the island was all consuming. Will they make it or will they both die together?! #Drama
I will keep following this series forever, plz don't ever stop Brenda!!

Unforeseen -

My introduction to Brenda K. Davies was this wonderful series and she has made it even more intriguing with the addition of The Alliance series (which stems off of this). Personally I think the Alliance series has a bit more edge to it but you get to interact with some of your favorite characters from this series and its just BRILLIANT! Let’s start with the cover of Unforeseen… I’m not sure what I thought Jack looked like before but this cover sealed the deal. The author is no amateur when it comes to picking the best images to represent her books and this one is no exception. Jack is clearly a smoke show.

SPOILERS!!!

As excited as I was to get my hands on the next book, in one of my favorite series, I was not super thrilled to still be stuck on the savage's island. I’ll give you two reasons… 1) I prefer when the characters get to interact with the previous or soon to be featured characters. When you have these people pegged totally in your mind and you get to read more about them in later books its pretty great. I mean, I’m sure that is an obvious way to put things but I grow attached and want to find out more about the whole lot of them. Kinda hard to do that when one character is stranded away from the others. 2) And MOST importantly, I get a little skeeved out by the hygiene these people are working with… You know they are smooching and touching and I want to be into it (and to a degree I am because Brenda writes SO well) but then I’m all *shudders*. Maybe it’s different for vampires? I doubt it. At any rate that is my only knit-picky complaints.

Ultimately, I loved Jack, how could you not? Plus we get Charlie and her adorable mini me, Dylan. This chick was fierce in every sense of the word and to see everything unfold and her finally get to relax and let someone else take care of things for a little while was awesome for me. Super bummed during the retelling of her childhood and how she ended up with Dylan… I felt that went on so long but I get it. This was vital to the story and understanding who Charlie really is. I truly enjoyed the end when Mike came back with the clan to tear shit up!

Another thing I’m gonna mention… (again, might be SPOILERS!) In everyone of these stories, the alpha male typically loses his mind when his not yet mate is in danger. We didn’t really see that in this book and not that I’m disappointed but I found myself waiting for it to happen. This one was a bit different and I do think their relationship evolution moved a lot quicker since she was already a vampire. Don’t get me wrong, Jack got plenty angry the few times his mate was in danger, it just didn’t happen outside of the bond.

The Vampire Awakening Series: Awakened & Destined Box Set is definitely a re-read for me… a step I’ll probably make soon since I’m all ready for the next one and am also current with The Alliance series. They are all so good in their own way. Unique and perfect! Brenda K. Davies is at the top of my list with PNR authors! Next up looks like we get Julian’s story which should be amazing but until then… “Waiting is the hardest part…” *deep sign*

Jack ❤❤

I've been waiting for this book for so long and it was totally worth the wait! Jack was freed from his cage by his friend Mike however during the escape he became separated from his friends. Now he is running for his freedom and his life. He knows he will be reunited with Mike and Doug at some point, he just needs to do whatever he can to stay alive. Running for his life he runs into Charlie and her fellow survivors. Way he learns is that they are on an island and some of them have been there trying to escape for 15 years! 15 years, he can't....no he won't allow them to keep him prisoner hiding and fighting for his life every day for years. He needs to find his friends, kick these savages asses and get home to their families. What he doesn't know is that Doug is dead and Mike escaped. While working with Charlie he figures out that she is his mate and she has a child, this complicating things even more. Not only does he need to save himself but he needs to save his mate and her human child. We see Jack's survival instinct kick into high gear. Will he survive & get himself off the island? Will he be able to save his mate & her son, will she accept him as her mate? Will he find his friends & find a way off this island? Will Charlie understand the mate bond and want to complete it or will she run away as fast as she can? So many questions. We see a different side of Jack & we get to see him safe & back at home with his family? There is quite a bit of action, some romance, some mail biting moments & some good laughs in this book. If you haven't read this series, I highly recommend it. Start from book 1 you will not be disappointed. I'm not so patiently waiting for book 10! Each book is better than the last. I feel like part of Liam & Sere's family, watching them grow & come into their own lives.

Mane!!!🧠💥❤️❤️❤️❤️👍🏾

So I have to start with the end because my freaking heart almost shattered about a million times. But I about boo hoo’d when I thought Dylan, Charlie’s son and Mike has died. And then subsequently Jack. Like I was doing a reread of the series and literally got to book 8 and just couldn’t make myself read it again because of Doug dying. So I’m literally like come on Brenda my heart can’t take much more of this. Like you just killed off 2 couples and a kid. I can’t I can’t. But all wasn’t as it seemed and so now I can breath much easier.

Soo now that, that is out of the way I can go back to the beginning. And might I say Charlie is friggin perfect for Jack. She is smart, witty, and didn’t take his shit. And she was exactly how you would expect a person to be after her parents and her sons sperm donor threw her away like trash. Which is to say she wasn’t easily trusting. And then to have been on that god forsaken Island for as long as she had been Jack is lucky there was bond that helped things along between them otherwise that ship wasn’t even leaving the docks to sail away if it went wrong.

I love little Dylan and his charisma. He kept himself together with all that was happening and even protected his mother despite he becoming a vampire. He was a true trooper through everything.

I absolutely loved every second of this book and can never seem to get enough of the Byrne family and their antics. Their discovery of finding their mates as well as those attached to them discovering their mates as well. And although I will truly miss not being able to see Doug have his chance, and am secretly hoping witches will be introduced or some craziness, I can’t wait to see what happens next.

I'm wondering, after reading this, if this is the end of the Vampire Awakening series? I know that there is the new spinoff ("The Alliance" series) and it seems like most everyone here in the Byrne clan has been wrapped up with a bow.

I am glad that I waited to read book 8 and didn't start it before book 9 was out. The way it worked, did not have to worry about the massive cliffhanger and went straight to the next book.

This book(book 9) was a very nice tie in, follow up and conclusion to the "Island Prisoner" plot line and I enjoyed getting the way everything was resolved. It was nice to get a better look into Jack and be able to see a bit behind the mask to see what makes him tick. It was also nice to have a vampire on vampire romance instead of the vampire/ human that were the majority. I wish we would have had a little bit more information on the bad guys behind the Island hunt - I know we got their names, but I would have liked to get some background on the "why" as well as the "how" of it. I mean, it was going on at least for 15 years - that implies some heavy duty planning and cover up.

I enjoyed the single mom POV and Jack and Charlie were two great MC's. Glad I came back to this series for the conclusion. It was nice taking a bit of a break from it and then coming back for books 8 and 9. Great way to end the series.

This was a really enjoyable book. I was a little worried that this would kinda be very similar to Mike's book since it takes place at the same time but it really wasn't even though many of same things happened it didn't feel redundant. I did enjoy learning more about the other people who were apart of the hunt and how they managed to survive, while we also learned more about the island and different parts we didn't see with Mike and Mollie. I also like how Charlie was a single mom who was doing everything she could to keep her son safe in a very dangerous place, it gave her an extra boost to become the fearsome woman she was. As the same with Mike, I liked how we got a more in-depth look into Jack, since he was always a character who was there but not the main focus and I loved seeing him with Charlie and Dylan. I did also like how this book gave us the closer that was missing at the end of the last one without making it feel dragged out during the time we have also been through before the dock scene happened (which it still wasn't as fun to know the aftermath of the dock a second time). Overall I liked this book, it didn't feel redundant and gave an added bonus of having something else we haven't really seem before (a single parent), I love this family of vamps and can't wait to see what trouble finds them next.

I have to say that although I liked this story. I'm so glad that everyone is off the island as I was getting tired of the island and the savages on it. I enjoyed Charlie's characters a lot and I loved that she was tough. Her first encounter with Jack was an interesting one and from then on, I enjoyed the two of them together. I like the twist the author threw in there with her son. There was no doubt the things she would do for him, and they all deserved more than the hand they were dealt. It was a bittersweet moment in this story as one of the characters that I grew to love in this series was died and Jack had to say goodbye. The hunters and savages definitely got what they deserved and I'm glad that some of the humans and vampires were able to make it off the island alive. The ending of this story was sweet and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

Loved jack hated Charlie

Brenda k Davies is one of my favorite authors. I love the entire awakening series. Her alliance series are even better if you can imagine. She pulls you in and won’t release you until it’s over. I read this book in one sitting. All that being said the sole reason I am giving this book 4 stars instead of 5 is because I could not stand Charlie. I understand her terrible child hood and even got why she was jaded. I hated that she was compete bitch to jack. I wanted to throat punch her. I hated that she kept comparing jack to her pos ex. Other then disliking the h I loved everything else. I am excited for Julian’s story.

"She was the piece he’d been missing since becoming a vampire, the piece that brought him back to life, and he vowed to make her laugh like this every day for the rest of their lives."
It's always a delight to finish one of Brenda's books, though all this darkness and tragedy she managed to bring us back back to the light, I am not over Doug's death yet but l am so happy for the rest of them. And I am gladly stating that this book was it for me even if another one came out in this series I am not reading it, this is the berfect end, beside I keep thinking about eternally bound series and I got the new two additions, that gonna make me sooo busy 🥰🥰

I love ALL the book's in this series, but I think this is my favorite. The things they did to survive, living underground for years.... I feel this book had twists we didn't see coming. The other's were straight forward, jumped right in. Charlie's visions had me on the edge of my seat. I started crying right along with her when Mike & Dylan were killed. I was so upset when we lost Doug...I couldn't believe we were losing Mike(which would destroy Mollie) too. I actually reread it numerous times hoping it was just a "vision". Thank goodness it was! I could write so much more, but that would take all day. I have been binge reading to familiarize myself with everyone going in to book 10.

I’ve been waiting for this book. Jack’s story does not disappoint. You really need to read the book before it to keep up with what’s happening. I mean he’s trapped on an island where he’s being hunted for sport. It’s diabolical, but it makes for a very compelling story line. Charlie is something else. She would rather smash Jack’s face than get involved with him. And she puts her son above all. She’s made the most of her situation and that’s admirable. I really enjoyed reading this one! It had that spark I tend to find in this series.

This is one of my absolutely favorite series. With each book that releases, the author gives you more layers to the story. Jack’s book was not different. If you read the last book in VA, Then you know where everyone stands. Jack is in a bit of a pickle when he meets Charlie. Their first interaction was...ummm...Interesting. Thinking about it now makes me laugh.

They have to fight to survive and you spend the entire book on pins and needles. I won’t go into details for spoilers, but I did not suspect a few things.

You must read this series. It’s so good.

Amazing read!
This is Jack and Charlie’s story.
Jack stumbles upon Charlie who is infuriating at first but there’s something that gets under his skin, that holds his attention and makes him want her. He learns she is not alone she has a son and a group of people/vampires in hiding to survive this hell hole of an island they have been dumped on.
They struggle to stay safe and get off the island alive and in one piece while discovering they have found their mate in each other.
FANTASTIC READ!!! I love this series

Enjoyed this book very much!

I love this series! I have been waiting for this book to come out so we could find out what was going to happen on that island! About 50% into the book is when we pick up where Mike’s book ended. I very much enjoyed Jack and Charlie’s story. It was entertaining, suspenseful and at times kept you at the edge of your seat. I almost had a heart attack towards the end! SMH I was super happy to see the Byrne family and friends. The last 30% of the book was really great! The author did very well on the writing and storyline.

I didn't care for Book 8 as much but it laid a lot of framework for this book. I think you could read Book 9 without reading Book 8 first but I think you would get so much more out of Book 9 if you read 8 first (or just read the whole series!!!). I did really enjoy this one... Jack has been one of my favorites since Book 1 and it was nice to see how he developed as a character. I also really enjoyed Charlie's story and LOVED the added dynamic of Dylan, so heart warming. This book also had a fair amount of action and some twists/turns. I enjoyed it very much!
