Claire and Liam had a good thing going until he walks out of her life. Being dumped without warning is devastating enough, discovering she isn’t pregnant leaves her without even a part of him. Withdrawing from everyone, she moves to another city and immerses herself in work, the better to forget Liam. Not that it’s working. Claire is a one-man woman, to her despair.
Back stateside after an unexpectedly long deployment, security contractor Liam Cafferty has accepted the truth: walking out on Claire makes him a coward. Thinking it for the best, given his dangerous profession, doesn’t cut it. She should have been given the choice. With the biggest heart of any woman he’s known, he’s hopeful she might take him back and makes it his new mission to convince her.
Claire must decide what matters: her pride or taking another chance on Liam—and love.
The heroine is so beyond pathetic she's not even a doormat.
More the story of a woman who completely and totally deteriorates because the man she loves disappears than a romance. Heroine thinks the H has ghosted her when in reality he's on a top secret mission. Three months later she's a pathetic mess of nothing with a phantom pregnancy. Once the doc explains there is no baby she moves so she can work herself to death. Shades of a college romance gone bad made this really uncomfortable for me.
The H shows up and is shocked to see the love of his life such a mess, but they have sex so it's all okay...epilogue.
I hated this so, so much. Two stars because it works as a novella lesson for Women who Love Too Much and Too Stupidly, but not really as a romance. If something really happens to this guy she's just going to go off the rails again. These two are almost like a parental prequel to someone's tragic backstory in another book: the parents that love each too much to pay attention to their child or the depressed parent that can't get over the loss of the other.
Heroine was too kindhearted to forgive hero so soon. Her heartbreak was that painful! Though he had his somewhat half true/ half stupid reason for it. Still for a short read it’s awsome. Safe.
I like Peri Elizabeth Scott’s story ideas. Most books are novella length and sometimes they feel rushed, but the pacing in this one worked for me.
She’s heartbroken when he ghosts her, heartbroken enough to hope she was pregnant once he was gone, and even more heartbroken when she’s not pregnant.
His ghosting is work related, security contractor out of the country on a blackout mission. He has regrets about not telling her how he felt and why he was leaving.
Tracks her down, some groveling, HEA with a nice epilogue.
He jilted her at the altar because his old man was an a$$ and blackmailed him and they were apart for three months. Both were celibate and you knew all along why he dumped her but she didn't. It was just okay.
2.5 Stars I’ve read several of this author’s novellas on scribd, but this one wasn’t my favorite. Liam and Claire were happily dating when he just disappeared one day. Four months later, a regretful Liam returns stateside with the intent to get her back. I found it a smidge boring, the others I’ve read were very angsty, and this one just fell flat. (for me)
I always get several “word of the day” vocables 😊 every time I read something from P.E.S, and she didn’t disappoint.
She lay arms and legs akimbo as much as the couch allowed.
I might have taken Liam’s abdication harder than I let on.
Bottom line- This is a short, totally safe read w/ a HEA and epilogue.
°2nd Chance °Separated for 3 months: neither were with others °Switching POVs °Hero was willing to grovel but she forgave him too quickly because "life was short" and it didn't make sense to waste more time. I partly agree with her but I wish she'd let him grovel a bit more °Free of OW/OM drama although... °Epilogue: 1 year later
