That Boy #5

That Ring

Rate this book
I first met the gorgeous Jennifer Edwards at a party some fifteen years ago. She was funny and silly and adorable.
We had a crazy, instant connection.
But then she kissed me.
And I did what I had to do—stopped it immediately because I was married.
In her tipsy state, she replied with something like, “Don’t promise me forever, just promise me tonight.”
And after a kiss like that, who could blame me if I kissed her?
Clearly, I wasn’t thinking straight because I would never cheat on my wife. But in that moment, I was tempted.
She thought maybe we could be friends instead, but I couldn’t. I was a hotshot rookie quarterback with a wife and a new baby.
I was living my dream. No way was I going to screw that up.
But now, my life is anything but perfect. Sure, I’ve got two championship rings, and I am gearing up for what could be the best season of my life, but my wife recently moved in with her lover, and I’m fighting for custody of our children.
And that brings me to where I am now—looking down at the milk I spilled when I saw Jennifer standing in my best friend’s house.

I have no idea why she is here … or if she’d be willing to give me another chance.
Will I fumble my love life again?
Or will I make the kind of play that will get me another ring?

Oh Danny Diamond, I was more than ready for you to finally get the happily ever after you deserve! That Ring is the conclusion to Danny Diamond and Jennifer Edwards story and it was a beautiful way to end their journey.

Danny is a sucessful quarterback who is in the middle of a divorce. Jennifer is a hollywood star who just got out of a serious long-term relationship. Jennifer and Danny met years ago and clicked in a way they never had before... but Danny was a newly wed along with a new father, so they let those feelings go and moved on with their lives. Now they have a second chance at love. A second chance to get that fairy tale romance they both deserve.
“The kind of love you never see coming. Not everyone is lucky enough to experience this type of love, but it is what I see in your future. This love will come to you so easily that it doesn’t seem real. You will have the kind of connection that is so intense, so right, that it will shake you to your core. This is love that fairy tales are made of.”

I loved so much about this, I only wish there wasn't quite so much Lori and Troy drama, but I was so happy with how it all came together at the end. Not only did I love Danny (you all should know by now he's one of my favorite book characters ever), but I also love Jennifer and Danny's kids. And of course the Mackenzie's. I can't get enough of this 'world' and I would honestly love some books about the Diamond/Mackenzie children. If Jillian writes those books, I will be first in line to read them!

What I love about this series, and all of Jillian's books really, is the fact that friendship plays such a prominent part. These friends are the family they choose and the bond they have is unbreakable.

That Ring is sweet, sexy, and a lot of fun to read. It was fast-paced and kept a huge smile on my face. It had some angst, but so much romance and the ending left me so happy. This book was so enjoyable and I highly recommend it!

When this arrived on my kindle my plans for the night changed. I sent an apology to my pilates instructor because there was no way I was going to class after work. My husband cooked dinner while I got settled in my lazy boy chair and opened a bottle of bubbles. I then got lost in this book for 4 ½ hours of Danny Diamond bliss *sigh*

If you have read the That Boy series you are going to LOVE this story! From the moment Danny and Jennifer met they knew there was something special between them and now that they are both in a place in their lives where being together is now a possibility, they are both treading carefully.

Their previous relationships have conditioned the way they think and sometimes react. Old insecurities can plant little seeds of doubt and they now have to learn to be Danny & Jennifer, forging their own path and traditions unique to them. Danny needs Jennifer to be all in, she not only holds his heart but his children’s hearts as well.

‘We should be flirting, getting to know each other, dating, then sleeping together, dating some more, deciding to be exclusive, and then in a relationship - each step moving us forward. With you, I feel like I need the commitment first.’ - Danny

Troy is still causing problems for her and she is torn between doing the right thing for everyone. Jennifer hasn’t had anyone she could count on for so long and leaning on Danny when she has problems is something she has to get used to, she hasn’t had that in her life before now. I loved Jadyns straightforward honesty with Jennifer - it comes out of love for Danny and her need to protect him after what he went through with Lori. And Lori, she was just awful and it made me feel really sad for her children. I love how Jennifer handled all of the ‘Lori moments.’

I love Danny as a father, his honesty and ability to be open about his failed marriage with his children was a reflection of how much he loved and respected their feelings. He always puts them first and he has proved trustworthy to them, never letting them down. Jennifer knows that Danny is a package deal and she wants it all. I love the relationships she built with Dani and Damon. The Mackenzies and Danny’s kids make her feel like she is part of their family and for the first time in years, she finally has found a home.

I love who Danny & Jennifer became with each other, how they blossomed into who they were meant to be, they were in love and it was evident in every word and action between them. It just felt so easy and effortless between them. It’s not until you leave a bad relationship that you can see just how toxic it was and when you find someone amazing to spend your life with it almost feels too good to be true, like waiting for the punchline - that will never come.

It took a while to get there for this gorgeous couple but the wait was worth it. I can’t finish this without mentioning the Mackenzie family, Danny’s best friends and next door neighbours. They really are an extension of his family, I loved all of the moments between them and I’m really hoping we will see a book emerge about Dani & Chase...

Whilst I am sad to have reached the end I’m also filled with so much happiness for Danny. I’m ready for a re-read of this entire series, reading this made me realise how much I love and have missed Princess, Phillip baby and Danny <3 Thanks for giving Danny what he has always deserved Jillian. It’s been a wonderful book vacation with the Diamonds & Mackenzies!

Conversations between Phillip and Danny… (reprinted with the author’s consent)

“I don’t know. We shared the most amazing night. Like, I can’t even describe the perfection it was.”

“No, but I can,” Phillip says. “It was utter hotness, but not in just the physical sense. It was desire, heat, and incredibly strong emotions mixed together into something so potent that it can’t be accurately described with words.”

“I should have known you’d know exactly what I felt. Does it feel that way every time with Jadyn?”

“Like I’m the luckiest guy on the planet? Yeah, it does. I mean, it’s not always crazy monkey sex.”

“Monkey sex?”

“Yeah, the kind where you feel like you’ve swung through the trees and you want to pound on your chest. It’s deeper. When you’re pounding on your chest, you’re letting the other monkeys know she’s yours. It’s powerful, protective, and addictive. It’s sex on a whole different level.”

“Because it’s mixed with love?” I laugh, saying exactly what his wife would say.

“Exactly. I’m talking true love. Soul mates. You felt Jennifer was your soul mate when you met her, and you didn’t have to sleep with her to know it.”

This duet just didn't win my heart like That Boy did! Those were lapped up like sweet cream and raspberries. There was just too much going on here that left me wishing Lori, her new wimp, and Troy hadn't claimed as much page-time. They weren't worth it -- and it took away far too much time that should have been allotted to the renewal of Danny and Jennifer's relationship. There was also an exorbitant amount of time spent on interior design and renovation details and flight plans. The friendship between Danny and Phillip was true gold. I loved the time spent with the neighbors and all the kids and especially the scenes with the puppies. One very touching scene with Angel made me cry and I felt the author did an excellent job with this event.

Yes, I was disappointed after starting this journey with five-star reads. Danny and Jennifer just didn't thrill me like I expected. Wasn't able to click with Jennifer. She seemed wishy-washy and a little too agreeable at times when I thought she should be a little stronger in taking a stand. I'm glad she and Danny found each other again and seem happy. It just didn't transition as I would have liked. I'm hoping Lori finds a little decency and tries to be a good mom to her children without spoiling Danny and Jennifer's relationship.

And I would love to see the next generation with a book of their own!

Reread because I thought there was a line in this book about football - the line wasn't in it but I still enjoyed the read. I think my 4 star rating should stand. There was a whole lot of pollyanna dialogue. There was also a lot of description about interior design. Hey, I have a degree in Interior Design. But why do I care about finishes and kitchen cabinets and hotel renovations? I could have done with a lot less of that. I get that it's an integral part of the story setting, but it was a bit much for me.

I did like the football. I've been watching the 2023 football season and I love it. Also I'm an audiobook person and I read this on my iPad Mini. I forgot how nice it can be to just sit and read a book.

Finally Danny and Jennifer get their happily ever after. Finally Jennifer gets a clue. Finally Lori gets her comeuppance. And all the while Jayden and Philip are their wonderful selves.

Great ending. And good for Danny, finally getting his true love.

I was happy to catch up with the three best friends in the first book of this duet but this one feels like playing catch-up with all of the characters from Dodd's other series, which I have not read (and their appearances here did not make me want to read them either), so I found most of this book super irrelevant and boring.

I didn't read any of the other books in this series so I'm going to say that it was ok to read as standalone.

I loved Danny. I guess all the characters were great, even wicked Lori and addict Troy.

Great read.

Review by Lisa Kane

When That Divorce ended, Jennifer left Danny to go back to L.A. Her ex Troy is in bad shape and needs to go to rehab. Jen has things she needs to take care-but Danny isn't a fan of any of these things.

Danny is still trying to get a divorce from his witch of a wife, Lori. How he ended up married to this psycho I'll never know, yet alone understand why he stayed married to her. He kept saying it was because of his kids, but let's face it, he's a multi-millionaire (considering he bought her hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry, clothing, cars) and could have her investigated. They had a pre-nup and with Danny's money, he could have hired any number of shark lawyers to hold Lori at bay. If Lori didn't dump him for her plastic surgeon, he would probably still be miserable married to the shrew.

Of course Jen is going to come back. With Lori stirring the pot like the cackling hag she is, and Danny's kids creating chaos and Jen's ex refusing to just go away, That Ring has lots of drama.

I struggled with this duet. I had no connection to Jen, I had problems with her going back to the flashbacks when she would have totally slept with Danny knowing he was married with a little baby. He was the one who stopped things, she had no such qualms. She just seemed shallow to me. Things between her and Danny felt rushed. They had a few months of closeness over ten years ago. Danny is about to cut the ties with the wife from Hell and he can't wait to jump into another marriage?

Now the kids of the main characters-I would read their stories!

Okay soo.. I liked this book a lot more than the last one. When Danny didn’t want to get rid of the car and Jennifer convinced him to when they knew Lori hated it and she got mad and stormed out… Definitely one of my favorite moments.
Still not a massive Lori fan and I’m definitely not surprised she put it in Dani’s head that Danny cheated when it was her who actually did.
Felt scared for Jennifer when she met with Troy on those multiple occasions and it’s rude how Jason was to her that entire time.
Love how the kids were looking out for Jennifer when all that happened. They really get along well with her and it was sweet of them.
“Go see what your girls did for you” JJ saying that to Danny about the house made me audibly ‘aww.’
The kids deciding to bring everything to surprise Jennifer at the California house for Christmas made me so happy because she deserved that so much and I’m glad Jennifer said her peace and closed the chapter with Troy for good.
Also, that game with and proposal? Such a sweet moment for them.
Would definitely recommend reading.

Perfect ending for one of my favorite guys ever. I loved all of the ups and downs and the joining of soulmates going on throughout this story. There's nothing like a family finally coming together to find their ultimate happiness. We also have some characters that challenge us with their innate talent to get under our skin and make our tempers boil. This book was such a page turner and a delight to read and I loved all of the characters I've missed from stories past popping up and making me smile. Absolutely Flawless.

This was a cute love story! I liked that the timeline felt more natural in this one, not so rushed like the previous book. Jennifer and Danny’s insecurities got a little frustrating at times, but I mean, that’s human nature, right? I just wanted them to get out of their own heads a little faster. The kids were great, super responsible and just good kids, which was nice to see. But honestly, what I love most about this series is the family and friendship dynamics. That’s what keeps me coming back!

Easy, fun and cute read. Lots of love, football, some drama and some tough moments. Overall a love story that was meant to be. With this series I love the family/friend aspect the most. It’s exactly what the dream is, to have those closest to you be your people through thick and thin. This book demonstrates real life insecurities with both main characters Danny and Jennifer, however they don’t let it stop their love, they talk through it. I am excited to read the next books in the series as they are of the children and that makes me happy because these kids are so dang awesome.

Yes, Just Yes.
The perfect conclusion to That Divorce.
I am pretty sure I have a girl crush on Jayden. I want to be just like her.

The fact that Danny sheds himself of that witch, Lori.... makes me want to do some cartwheels. Everyone deserves to be loved with 100% and it's nice to see Danny finally experience that.
Still, the kids have me so interested in their story. :)

LOVED IT. The proposal, the love in the air, the happily ever after in this book was so heartfelt. The picture perfect ending was exactly what I was hoping and wishing for. I am also beyond eager to see how Chase’s and Dani’s relationship transitions to one similar to Jayden’s and Phillip’s relationship throughout the next book. Can’t wait to find out!!

That Ring and That Divorce by Jillian Dodd. I LOVED them! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ .
Jennifer and Danny Met 14 years ago....right place, wrong time! Danny had just gotten married and had a baby girl. He couldn’t mess that up! So he said bye to his soul mate! But 14 years later hopefully it’s the right place, right time for both of them!!!
.

I gotta tell you from the moment Lori came into the picture I wasn’t a fan. How could Danny fall for a lady who doesn’t know/ like football! 🏈 then she threw a fit about not passing her candle and I was over her. SO thank heavens Danny got a second chance for his fairytale! .

I Can’t help but cheer for #kansascitychiefs right now! #dannydiamond need his 3rd ring! 💕

L’ho ripresa in mano trovandola espansa.

#1 That boy (J.J.
#3 That baby (J.J. + Phillip e Bimbo Mac)
#5 That ring (Danny + Jennifer)
#6 That summer (Chase + Devaney), torniamo al trope friends to lovers, young adult con un po’ di sport romance
#7 That promise (Chase + Devaney), con i trope friends to lovers, young adult, college romance, con un po’ di sport romance
#8 That forever (Chase + Devaney), sempre young adult, college romance e sport romance
#9 That crush (Damon + Ainsley)
#10 That girl (Damon +. Ainsley) – in pubblicazione
#11 That someday (Damon + Ainsley) – in pubblicazione

Siamo come aquiloni.

I loved the conclusion to Danny and Jennifer’s story!! I’ve loved everything about their story; minus Danny being married to Lori when they fort met 15 years ago!

I loved watching Jennifer grow closer to Danny and his kids. I loved watching all the interactions with them!

I loved that Danny was there for Jennifer when she needed someone to hold her hand. I love that she went to Danny knowing he’d be there to help her. That they knew they could rely on each other to help them through the bad times!

I already see a story in my head for Dani and Chase! I really hope they get a story though the story in my head has them blissfully happy and no drama. Lol. But I hope to one day get a story about the kids!!

This is a great conclusion to Danny, Phillip and Jadyn. I love that their friendship has remained so strong and that they are a family!!!

I really enjoyed That Divorce and was so excited about this novel. However, I didn't like it. I feel like the author added a number of elements in it which were not needed. The elements dragged the story unnecessarily. Like the death of the dog, the drama with Lory and divorce agreement and ofcourse that Troy bullshit.

I just skimmed through the most of the novel. Every time I used to see it on my kindle, I felt like dnf-ing it but slowly and steadily I completed it.

I am not sure if I'll read any more books by this author. I really tried hard to like this novel but, I just couldn't.

What a GREAT ENDING to one of my favorite series! I absolutely love the lessons in family, love, friendship, and forgiveness. This book hits all different subjects but stays at its core of the series that JD started years ago.

Thank you for such a great series that makes you want to keep going back for more! 🖤

I don't ... I don't even remember what was happening. [Maybe ... I ... confused it with the Kris?]
But ... this read/started EXTREMELY NA - which ... not really believable for someone with TWO superbowl rings ...

anyway the fact that I can't even remember without looking it up, and can't without my phone near me ... [I read on the kindle app.]

Anyway the tone and it was a mess and I was really sad cuz the premise seemed interesting and we all know I LOVE me some sportsball.

Perfect ending to an amazing series. I just love Danny Diamond and wish I had one too! Jillian also intertwines characters from other series into this one so you catch a glimpse of some of your favorites during the read.
Danny has such an amazing personality and I love that he got his own story. More than 5 stars if it were possible.

I was given an ARC for an honest review.

FULL REVIEW TO COME!

The perfect conclusion to a perfect duet. The years of wait for Danny's story were well worth it and Jillian Dodd delivered in spades. I wish a certain person would have got her just desserts but we can't have it all.

The day has finally arrived for Danny and Lori to sign the divorce papers. Once signed, they are filed, and there is a thirty-day wait until it's final. However, Lori thinks she has the upper hand because she’s jealous that she caught Jennifer Edwards, the world-renowned actress not once, but twice in Danny’s house. The first time he had run out to the store. The reason she had barged into Danny’s home was that she wanted to yell at him because he allowed Dani to go to a cheerleader sleepover.

Football seniors went over to the sleepover, brought booze, and Dani got drunk. When in fact she had allowed it too. And she was supposed to be with the kids, but instead she was in Bermuda with Dick Rash. She called Chase and not her dad. So Phillip, Chase, and Damon go to get Danny from the sleepover. The version Lori had been wrong, especially when she tried to blame Jennifer for the situation. If there’s anyone to blame, it would be Lori. It would be another shiny object or place over her children. And even though she was trying to appear to be concerned, it came off as catty.

But when she tried to renege on what they had already agreed to by asking for joint custody, Danny said, Absolutely not. What else do you want? She said well... I always loved the, Ferrari. Another lie she hated that car. Because Danny bought it with his signing bonus, and it was something he had always talked about since he was a kid. “When I make it to the NFL, I’m going to buy myself a Ferrari.” That he bought it without consulting her, is what pissed her off. Telling him it is their money now. She told her no it was his bonus money.

That he got before they got married. So that car to him represents making it. Now in between all this, Jennifer went back to LA with Jadyn to consult her on this hotel that Tripp is now refurbishing. Rather than tearing it down per Jadyn’s recommendation and encouragement. But she is also going to try and get her ex-Troy into rehab. Plus find a place to live, a place to call home on the West Coast. Danny is the man she wants, and his children too. But she also wants her career. So once she gets her life and career in order she can return to Danny.

When she finally connected with Danny, he told her that no papers were signed and why. She told him to let her have it. She’s trying to control the situation and manipulate you. Jennifer said she will buy him another one just like it. Or give him one of her seven sports cars. Call her bluff and sign it. Have the satisfaction of giving her the car she hates, or even better, that doctor Rash will love it and will drive her around in it. So Danny does just that. So, she gives him three options one, joint custody, two, give her half a million, and three, hand over his Ferrari.

Her Lawyer says she’s already signed all three pick the one you think works for you. Danny says, I already know the one that works best for me, and it is number three. He quickly signs it. I didn't realize the car held sentimental value for you during our friends' wedding weekend. So I thought about it and decided I could part with it. The look on Lori’s face at Danny was priceless. She got played at her own game. The best part for Danny was when he left the courthouse, and in the parking lot, Jennifer was standing by one of her seven sports cars. He asks, What are you doing here?

Mostly, she just wanted the memory of her giving him the car and telling him what they’re going to do in it later, she says, and then whispers something naughty in his ear. He raised his eyebrows in delight. “I love it.” “Perfect,” she says, “because I love you.” Welcome to their second meet cute you don’t want to miss it. Especially with Lori being her B-tchy self and Jennifer bringing a real Christmas to Danny’s children, only to be sucked into the vortex called Troy.
