This book is more like a list of 50 companies that are applying AI in their business. The structures of the books would be the challenges that each company is facing, how AI helps them to tackle these issues and what are the results. I am demanding more detailed information rather than concise summaries. Though the book was published quite recently (2019), it would soon be outdated with the pace of AI growth.
However, it is fair to say that it is still somehow essential for a normal person (without any tech-savvy like me) to realize how booming is AI nowadays. AI - too sexy a word and a trend right now will soon replace people if we are not well-equipped with the new trend and spend some time to analyze our job, which tasks will be automated and which cannot.
This was a great book - not from a practical application standpoint, but from a vision-setting standpoint.
This book is a series of 50 case studies that explain how different companies in different industries are using AI to improve, grow, or invent opportunities. As such, this is the type of book that will be useful in my own learning designs for students to explore. I can imagine using it in a classroom setting to have groups select companies to explore.

Despite the book being a little dated; most of the examples are from 2019 and before, majority of the examples and business cases are still valid and would provide a good start for people interested to further their knowledge relevant to AI field.
Altogether, this book serves as a promising resource for those wishing to understand the real-world effects of AI and its potential to boost business performance.

I learned a lot from this book about how AI assisted businesses in their operations, products, and services. Very informative content. But the writing was so bad that it was distracting. I wondered if the book was written by AI, if so, I would train it not to write long complicated sentences, avoid the awkward/unnecessary adjectives and adverbs, and remove the hundreds of "as well as" throughout the book.
Oh, and Thomas Edison couldn't have set any energy industry pattern in the 18th century (chapter 42 on GE)!!
Bernard Marr is a futurist and author who owns a digital transformation consultancy where Matt Ward works as research lead. This shallow book (little more than a collection of press statement extracts and industry clippings) looks at how 50 companies have used AI but there’s no analysis here, no consideration of hurdles and little thought to the ethical implications, making it a disappointing read that I got little use from.
This is not really a story book, but a status check across 50 industry leaders, a collection of press statement extracts, a database of technology stacks for the CTO looking to add "AI" or "machine learning" into his presentation to the board. Or a practical short advice on where to start when looking for inspiration on how to leverage statistical analysis and 10 layers of nested IF-THEN-ELSE statements don't really cut it anymore.
The book accurately reviews how companies are using AI and machine learning... but it reads like a phone book. If you are looking for a strong narrative and critical thinking, then this book is not for you. If you are wanting a list of machine learning and AI uses, then this is exactly what you are looking for.
Exactly what I was looking for: an overview of how AI has been used in different verticals. The book is several years old, so I’d like to have an updated version for 2024. So much has gone into effect that was in the works when this was written that I’d love to know how they’re going now. Great read for those curious to where AI has been implemented and in practice for years now.
Very interesting discussion of how large businesses use artificial intelligence prior to Covid. Enjoyed the discussion of Tesla’s autonomously driving vehicles and their future. Machine learning and interconnectedness to make trains and automobiles.
The moral aspect of AI and new jobs are discussed and along with a description of the changing job market in the U. S.
It was more of a documentation/case study collection. I was hoping it to delve deep into AI but it was more of the same concept being repeated again and again in every case. It would be really informative if you are new to AI. Overall a decent read.
A better-done, if somewhat less-recent, version of Davenport's "Working with AI: Real Stories of Human-Machine Collaboration". This one is the more "readable" of the two, though, if you have the time and interest, read both.
Good general idea on which companies use AI, pretty much outdated for 2023 but very good for someone outside the expertise that wants to know where data analysis is being used on daily basis.
I've read this book for college class as a supplement reading. It was fun, I like the breakdown based on what the company does. It may be a little too short if you are in the AI field, but it gives a very basic understanding for those who a new to this world. Great selection of companies, helps you understand and relate to it better.
