Dark Empathy is the fourth book in a series that tells the tale of Nameless as he enters a new chapter in his life: Aegis training. But he has much to learn, and the world isn't waiting for him to finish… WARNING: This is a work of erotic fantasy, there is nudity, some swearing, a fair bit of violence, and plenty of naughty sex between man (and woman) and monster girl/girls. If that isn’t your cup of tea please give this book a pass! Otherwise please enjoy!
I am not sure about this series anymore. I don't really know where the author is trying to take me. Is this a monster girl harem story or is it an epic fantasy? I think the author is trying to hard. He has multiple separate story lines that somehow connect together. Some of the story lines didn't feel well developed and their connections were tenuous at best. Is this story supposed to be fun? Is it supposed to be dramatic? Is it supposed to be sexy? Is it supposed to be heartbreaking? I think the author was going for all of that, and by doing that he missed on each one of those. The jokes weren't that funny, the sex wasn't that hot, the story jumped around to much to be that dramatic. I preferred the first book in the series as it was simpler.
This one breaks out of the morass of depressive stuff in the third book and gets things moving forward again. The multiple viewpoints seem better balanced, although the bit with the bunny didn't seem necessary, and was certainly more of the book than it should have been.
I think the series needs to "dance with the one who brought you" and rationalize the moving parts in favour of the main group. I suspect that things will tie together more in the next installment, or at least I can see ways to make that happen so I'm sure the author can too.
Everything I love about Heartstone Saga, but more of it I'm a big fan of Heartstone Saga. The likeable characters, the exotic monster girl world, the erotic sex scenes, and also the sex scenes. If I'd had any complaint it was that these books were too short, occasionally got a bit harsh, and some of Consequence seemed to skimp just a little on the sex scenes. Dark Empathy keeps everything that I love about this series (even that too harsh element that I don't) and it feels longer. I didn't intend that pun, but I'm going to leave it in. We get more character development here without tainting the overall mood & flavor of the story. This is a difficult transition to pull off and Lieutenant Archibald Bradford pulls it off nicely. That's impressive for anyone, let alone a Time traveling space cat who writes smutty books
The book was solid and continues to expand the characters backstory and development. Overall the pacing was good and the action scenes are well written. I recommend this book.
Ok so I have to say this. I'm freaking out right now, I can belive that ending. First the end of the last chapter was epic, then the epilogue with the huge bomb reveal, I just cant even right now. As for the rest of the book I got to say another solid one. The story continues and I have to say focuses mainly on Nameless determination to do his part, also several moving parts I'd say more so then past books in the series are going on the the same time which have HUGE impacts to the main villains and Nameless, ( that's all I'll say). All and all amazing story so far, I just cant wait for book 5.
Nameless is learning to be Aegis. He he some powerful monster girls but will need them if he is to continue to fight on the front lines. He is slowly learning more of his abilities and improving. This book we see the enemy at work and our heroes on the defensive. Time to become more proactive if they want to stop the evils of the land. Looking forward to the next book.
Wow, wow, wow!!!! I just read the first four books in this series and awesome doesn't do it justice!! An incredible adventure with amazing characters and their interaction is first rate!!! A few scattered editing series but that should do nothing to take away any readers enjoyment of these incredible books!!! More please
I've been waiting a year for this book and it's been definitely worth it. The only thing that sucks is the wait I'll have to endure for the next one. I read the first three books about a dozen times apiece and I never get tired of them
The story gets better and better everytime I read it! Nameless is finally starting to grow up and learn the world is far worse than he knew. I can't wait for the next book!
Another great book I will look forward to a new story from Lt. Archibald. However I love the heartstone saga and I will be waiting for the next step in this epic journey.
Summarizing to avoid spoilers. I didn’t finish this book the first time I read it. I have two stars because of the author having a a trained group of operatives use someone undercover and not have anyone watching their home for safety. It totally broke with the characters and previous plot of trained experienced professionals. All for an easy plot device of a kidnapping and hostage situation. Just no excuse for it.
