I liked this. I think I need a paper copy to refer back to as needed and to practice some of the methods.

This book presents a lot of great information about how to attune to the heart and create greater coherence within self. Based on another reviewer, I took copious notes, which I will refer to personally and include some in my review here.

A main principle taught in heartmath is the idea to freeze frame stressed or upset emotions as soon as they happen. This is actually a two step process because you must recognize the emotion then take a time out with that emotion.next you focus on your heart area and recall a positive, fun, loving experience, evoking those feelings in real time. Following feeling all that positivity, use intuition and common sense, ask your heart for a more efficient response than the one you froze in the moment. Finally, listen to what your heart says and practice what comes to you.

Some “power tools” used in heartmath includes the power of appreciation. Be consistently thankful and grateful and your life will grow in value. This is one of the easiest things to feel because you can feel grateful for anything in the moment.

The second power tool is dropping judgement. As you stop judging, your heart is free to learn more information and change its view. Supposing that a situation might be different than it first appears allows us to be able to look further for understanding.

He also reminds the reader to take significance out of our slip ups. Appreciate any progress we make. Forward progress isn’t always linear!

The third power tool that relates to the previous paragraph is the power tool of forgiveness, of ourselves and others. Take significance out of an emotional crisis. As parents, we help our kids do this to help them reflect and prioritize and try again. It also is useful for us as adults.

To summarize, use freeze frame consistently. Ask the heart for a more effective response than. Appreciate something in that moment. And finally, take the significance out of a seeming failure of the moment to recognize the progress you have made.

Another idea he explored in this process was the idea of cut through. For example, if you have a meeting about a business challenge, eventually someone will suggest cutting through the arguments and finding the basic challenge or solution. To accomplish this in ourselves, we first examine our feelings more closely to see how you feel about them. That requires closer examination of them, getting in touch with yourself better.

Next, focus on your heart and solar plexus and breathe love and appreciation through those areas for 10 seconds or more to help focus your attention there. This starts calming your emotions. The heart can align the brain in the gut and the brain in your heart, making you feel more buoyant as you align them together.

Third, you will view the problem more objectively as if it belongs to another person. Observe it and then ask the heart for advice.

Last in the process of cut through, rest in neutral, in your rational, mature heart. Begin to develop a more rational, mature response to the task at hand.

The book covered a lot of scientific data backing up the claims made in heartmath and success stories as they have been used in homes, schools, and businesses for both children and adults. I have briefly investigated some of the further resources available as well as training for those wishing to become coaches in heartmath.
