All four books in the Dead Texas series are now available in one box set!
A plague has been released in Austin. It’s highly infectious, incredibly lethal, and turns the recently deceased into fast moving zombies with a taste for human flesh.
Rookie officer Lacy Sparks is thrust into the action when she is assigned to a federal strike force tasked with preventing the outbreak from becoming a full blown pandemic. It’s a race against the clock as she and her team struggles to survive against the growing forces of the undead.
This is the initial four book series that leads into the Dead America series.
The complete 4-Book Dead Texas Series includes
Book 1 - Day Zero Book 2 - No Comfort Book 3 - Lonesome Road Book 4 - The Journey West
Very entertaining. I had no high hopes for the series but was truly pleasantly surprised. I am looking forward to reading the next books!
I rate the whole series (so far) with 4 stars. The plot is well thought through (except the El Paso Arc!) and the characters relatable. The idea with an air born zombie virus was new and interesting.
While there are some weaknesses (zombies bleed weeks after their death, characters bitch about amunition crisis but don´t loot amunition and shoot too much, the El Paso arc, the irrational behaviour of the antagonists in South Carolina..) the series is solid and well written.
I found it unbelievable that the characters all seem to act like commando units and in every story there is at least one badass woman who is able to dominate men with bodily strength..
Despite the author's attempts to focus on a small group of survivors there's little to make you care about their survival or about them in general. This was four "books" in one but it felt like just one book. There also felt like a lot of timeline issues where distances and drive times mattered less than causing conflicts and time or distance is more of a McGuffin than a reality.
Mindlessly fun action scenes with good audio narration.
So if it's mindless fun and I didn't hate the audio narration, why did I give it a lower rating? The writing is very repetitive. Lots of "she demanded" right in a row kind of stuff. There's very little variation to wording and again, while it's mindlessly fun, if I had actually *been* reading this I would have most likely given up halfway through because the writing is very, well, boring at times.
I'll probably continue the series because they're cheap enough and easy to read at work. Or listen to in my car.
Good story with plenty of brave characters. Love the core group, could read a lot more about their adventures. No shortage of villains. A few wrong word usage probably due to autocorrect - like "last" when it should have been "blast". Really did not take away from the story and only a couple of words in each book. Recommendation - read and enjoy!
Just finished the first four books and they are a great keep you at the edge of your seat series. Sparks is a great character as are the others. They ride to the challenges that they face with ingenuity and a fair amount hutzspa! I recommend it as a fun read!
I enjoyed the female lead in this book. Most of these feature a well trained soldier type tough guy, and to have a well trained female cop/tough lady was a great twist. I'm a Texan, so it was good to be able to understand where they were. In all, a good read if somewhat typical of the genre. The characters were likeable.
I really loved the characters, and how the good guys whipped ass on the establishment. Giving lead role to a woman cop ex wrestling champ and a old man that was tough as nails.couldn't stop reading.if you love the walking dead and fear the walking dead you will love this!!!
Starts off fast paced and just keeps going. All these books are well written, yes might be a typo here and there but not over whelming. Characters are well fleshed out. Cant go wrong if like zombies and lots of action. These are the side stories to a main story so lots of books going together..you will not want for something to read just keeps going
I really like this group of characters that the story files. They are quite a diverse group. A nurse, a mechanic, a Vietnam vet, a cop, and a con. They experience the start of the apocalypse with all of the horrors that entails and begin to fight their way thru. I can't wait to read more.
somewhat plausible scenario, great character development, and a lot of action. I finished the set in 3 days of reading, looking forward to getting the Dead America series as soon as I submit this review!
Filled to the brim with action and humor like a cold beer straight off the tap. No sappy do gooder characters here, just total badassery! You’ll love it!
I listened to the audiobooks and I enjoyed them immensely. And this comes from someone who doesn't like audiobooks...PJ Morgan's reading them was an very pleasant surprise and I think it made the audiobook experience so great.
..... series with lots of action, blood and LAUGHTER!!!! Could do with some editing, but it's not really that bad. Can't wait to start on Dead America!!!!!
Great zombie read!!! Super fast paced and I love the dynamic between Sparks and Rufus. I will be reading all future books by Derek Slaton, he has SOLD me
I have read almost 200 books in this series and I can't stop. I had to take a couple months off because I got lost in the rabbit hole that was just me reading these non stop.
I loved IT!!!! Especially that it took place around my house and I knew every single location and detail that they talked about in this series. I can’t wait to jump into the next series.
It is very interesting book too much chaos go on. Blood type turned zombie and infected one. Sadly there out few good people dead or alive find out your self
This is one set that, when you reach the end, it leaves you lost. How can characters become friends so quickly? Well with the characters in this set it was easy. With a strong, capable, caring female main character, Lacy Sparks, and her ragtag team, Rufus (my fav), Jeff and married couple Mary and Ricky, life gets pretty interesting in the apocalypse. These five are brilliantly portrayed as they cut a swathe through zombies and bad guys alike. That action is perfectly bloody and full of funny moments. It’s that dark humour that puts an extra layer onto an already seriously good set of books. This sits at the top of the list of re-readable books for me!
Fast paced Zombie horror with a fresh take (at least for me) on a zombie apocalypse. Fun characters including a female pro wrestler, that all quickly have no problems killing the living and dead. Drawbacks... Author uses the sentence. ("Character name) raises an eyebrow" at least 45 times. I really wish I was exaggerating that number. And it is PACKED with spelling and other errors. I liked the story enough to continue his series but I hope he hired a proof reader that isn't blind.
I got the audiobooks for this set and I loved them. I kinda went out of order tho I did the first week then the second week before I did these. But you live and you learn so next time I will do them in order starting with Texas and Sparks.
