Jim DeVoto, classicist and ancient historian, husband of one of my Loyola University coworkers and himself an occasional contributor to the work of the Ares Press, gave me this as well as a host of other books about ancient Greece. Compared to Bury or Bengstom, it's not as much substantial as an enthusiastic introduction in the manner of Edith Hamilton.
