Episode 2: Mafia Gods: The Curse of Ra

Rate this book
Never ending darkness. It swallowed me whole. Cold and unforgiving. Nothing before it.

Then a light shone through, piercing my being, and I came to be. Snow and TJ, my first memory that made the darkness slink away. He's the light I never knew existed. And even though he won't ever admit it, I think he needed me, too.

Twenty-years later, we had jobs and a place to live. We work for the local mafia, which puts the skills we learned on the street to good use. Or at least it would if our boss would let us do more than shake down something tougher than the boneless, greasy con-men we normally got.

But everything changes the night we meet a god and I unwittingly gain his attention. My relationship with TJ is alerted forever, and other mafia bosses move in on our territory: Chronos, twin brothers Hades and Anubis, and the ever powerful Ra.

Our boss Janus isn't happy, and neither am I. The darkness that holds my past has begun to let go, and these gods are a part of that. But do I want to know the truth of who and what I am?

So good

God I’m enjoying this so much, I wish it was just 1 whole book but no matter because it’s so awesome and hilarious, I love the sense of humour in these books, can’t wait to read the next one. A must read definitely.

Min and TJ have been set up, TJ is in custody, and Min is furious. She has just admitted how much TJ means to her and she's not about to lose him now! When she confronts Anos to see why their boss turned on them, Min discovers that they are pawns in a much larger game. A game where the other players are gods and only they seem to understand the rules. And it appears Min is the focus.

Janus, Chronos, the not-s0-identical twin brothers Hades and Anubis, and Ra. Min's former life was quite different from the one she spends as a street rat with her bear shifter. I am completely intrigued by this serial. I love the present; I love the past flashbacks, I love not having a clue about the future. The flashbacks have given me enough to go on to have an idea what has happened although the why is still questionable. I have a couple of theories. I am interested to see how each of the gods reacts to this new Min. She's no longer their little toy but then I don't think they ever really thought she was. There's an interesting dynamic between all of the characters. Sexual tension, frustration, anticipation, and a touch of amusement run through the pages. The pacing is nicely done; so much happens, there are new characters, new background information, and new developments, yet so much is unanswered and new questions arise. This does what every good serial does. It teases, it frustrates, it leaves you wanting more!

Great development in this second episode - it appears we now have all of the characters and this is quite the group. I'm totally hooked, wanting to find out how Min's conflicting memories (with the Gods vs. growing up with TJ) are possible. More, please!
