The Gifts Awaken #2

Throw the Bouquet: April May Snow Psychic Thriller #1

Rate this book
Being psychic isn't cool.
It's not my fault Susan's fiancé is a loathsome moneygrubbing sociopath. She picked him.
A devoted friend would end his devious plan by stopping the doomed wedding and save her friend from becoming a possible murder victim. I want to be the daring friend who rescues Susan from her lunatic lover. It's just I have no evidence, only an illusive dream.

Plus, I'm not keen on becoming a social outcast.

I'm not being dramatic. It will cripple Susan emotionally if I tell her the truth. Not to mention her rich father has dropped a fortune on this event.

Why can't Susan see her depraved fiancé's true nature? I don't need my psychic 'Gifts,' to understand he's a ruthless bully cloaked in genteel charisma.

And what's with his volatile "Cousin." Her steamy gazes in his direction are, well awkward. It's as if she's working a behind the scenes plan.

The only thing more trying than being in so many weddings is my paranormal abilities reappearing with unbridled strength—awful timing.

My decision has life-altering consequences. One option will haunt me forever if my visions are true. The second choice turns me into a pariah amongst my friends.

Being psychic is such a drag.

I learned early it's not acceptable for me to talk about the weird things I see at night or the whispering voices in my room. They told me there's no such thing as ghosts. Dead folks don't hang out in little boy's bedrooms, and I have an overly active imagination.

They were right about the imagination.

Later, I discovered that while talking about "such nonsense" is taboo, writing stories about paranormal events is acceptable. I've been hooked ever since.

You may find the female characters in my books to be ridiculously smart, tough, resourceful, and occasionally a hot mess. This is not only because I find this style of protagonist intriguing. Writers write what they know. Where I come from, most women fit into this category.

April May Snow, the protagonist in the prequel series The Gifts Awaken and the full-length novel series Foolish, is a young woman who personifies a strong woman. She just doesn't know it yet.

The April May Snow books are a paranormal women's fiction series. They are not a midlife series. Considering the multitude of dangerous situations April finds herself in, they might be past her midlife. Let's hope not. I've come to love her and hope you will, too.

To round out my Bio, I was born in San Diego and raised in Birmingham. I like to think I keep a California surfer's attitude toward life most days while conversing in a heavy Southern drawl.

I now live a few miles outside of Nashville. Since I can't play the guitar, which is a genuine impediment to being a successful country music singer, I continue to write books, which I enjoy immensely. I hope you'll receive as much joy from reading one of my books as I get from bringing it to life.

Thought I was getting a fun mindless read - it was depressing. Not a cozy mystery as no mystery, just a linear telling of a predictably horrid guy leading up to a wedding. Written like a diary entry of an unpleasant situation.

How to become a social outcast in one easy step

A wonderful start to a new series. A story of a psychic who has been asked to plan a hen night for the umpteenth time. Getting everyone back to the hotel and then onto the wedding venue is a job and a half. Especially as the bride has doubts about her wedding and there are some man eaters in the hen party. However meeting the groom is an eye opener. Vivid kinky scenes, a weird phone call, his cousin who is definitely more than a kissing cousin, a mansion, a life insurance policy and a bloody table. What will she do? Will she become a pariah and warn the bride or will she let the wedding take place?
A nicely paced read and although we get a clear picture of the characters we still have a somewhat smokey outline of hers.

A question that I have never once considered or cared about.....Hmmmm I wonder what type of cell phone the main characters have in their possession?! Seriously annoying to be reminded constantly that she has a smart phone and so does everyone else. The point being what...it adds absoulutely nothing to the story and it's damn annoying.
That being said...I might consider the next super short story in this potential long story series from the basic description mentioned by the author at the end of the book. I am a bit curious about the main character and will most likely give the next short a read and if I don't enjoy it I will not continue on.....

Would you like to read a short, well-written, good story with a paranormal twist? If you would, then you’ve got to read this book. I appreciated the slight sarcasm April used while talking to herself; it made me smile. And I appreciated her altruism when she agreed to be in charge of her sorority sister’s bachelorette weekend. I couldn’t put the book down, it was so interesting, surprising and suspenseful. I’ve already read two chapters of the next book, although this is a standalone book. I can’t imagine not immediately reading another book in this series.

Second book in the series

Continuing from book one, Throw the bouquet is exciting and suspenseful. The characters are believable and likable. Well, except for one who isn’t very likable. The plot is realistic, and when I hope I never find myself involved in. I have to start the third in the series.

Short but excellent

This was the prequel to this series. The path the book took was unexpected but I was very impressed. The author did southern realistically and I appreciate that. I'm from rural North Alabama and it's nice to read a book with an educated southern woman. We may have our quirks but we can still be educated and smart. The writing is also too notch.

Short and sweet

A super, quick read. Interesting main character that I’d like to learn more about. I’d like to see the plot developed into a full length book in the upcoming installments.

A very interesting read

Excellent setting and representation for a fairly complex set of characters for a novelette. Finished in one sitting! Will be enjoying the next in the series shortly!

I usually feel that short stories are a waste of time...

Best short story I've ever read. A lot more intense characterization than I would expect in such a short story. I decided to take a chance since it was the first book in a series.

You know that little voice in the back of your mind that warns you when you have doubts about something? Yeah, that's the one you need to listen to. It could save your life. If you ignore it, pray you have a friend who will tell you the truth.

I am having a little trouble figuring out where in the timeline this is from the other series

That said I am going to get book 2, because I like this quirky character. Goofballs and paranormal with a southern twist works!

Enjoyed the story

A good introduction to a new series. There was a problem and April solved it but the plot was a little too easy

April is in her 23rd wedding and hosting her 16th bachelorette party for her sorority sister, Susan, when she starts to get a strange vibe. The bride is battling doubts, the family is concerned, and the fiancé is hella shady. Crap really hits the fan when April finds out Jackson, the fiancé, is out to scam the bride for financial gain and possibly hurt her. How does April find this out? She’s been clairvoyant since she was 8 and has managed to keep it a secret. April wants to stop the wedding and save her friend, but to do so would mean revealing her secret. Will anyone get a happily ever after?
Throw the Bouquet was a great and quick book to read on a lazy Sunday afternoon. The ending felt a little rushed, but I enjoyed it and overall the book kept me interested. Definitely recommend this prequel and I can’t wait to read more about April May Snow and her shenanigans.
